The way I see it, Mattel has an impossible task. They have to start a new DC line and invest fans in it when:

1. Their last DC effort was total crap and no one had interest, and they had a history of pissing off fans in the past. For example that horrific subscription model that pissed people off.
2. McFarlane did some things to set Mattel up for failure as they would cost Mattel too much money (wired capes for example) and people will complain or decline the line if these aren't done so either they cut into their profits or they piss off fans out of the gate.
3. They are going to have to start the collector line at a ridiculously high price (like $30-$35+) due to tariffs-- and risk stocking it in stores and watching it pegwarm-- or risk it not gaining any traction if they only stock online. And they have to risk making a lot if they want to get the most people in (otherwise, can't find it, people will ignore it). But we are in a toy down-cycle where most manufacturers are limiting their production.
4. They will have to make deeper cuts as fans expect from lines like ML or even some that Todd has done (Captain Carrot, Ambush Bug, The Question, Kite Man, etc), yet deeper cuts will absolutely pegwarm at retail for the drastic prices they will need to charge to make a profit. About all they can do to mitigate is just make these online exclusive.
5. They're screwed if they do and screwed if they don't on scale. If they go 6in some potential fans will never pick up the line as it won't work with their existing McFarlanes. If they go 7in some potential fans who expected The Ideal Scale to return will be pissed off and never pick up the line.
6. On top of all this they are chained to Gunn's movies as usual and DCU is still rather unproven with only a single movie--and one that had an A lister lead (Superman) so far.

Bought a Joker now I want more Batman villains.

>>11515883
Sometimes 6" figures scale well with Todd's stuff. I like my Harley being a little shorter than Joker, and if they're on a flight stand it's barely noticeable.
They have a lot of opportunities to make big bucks out of the gate because of times Todd fumbled the ball if they make a widely available classic Wonder Woman, Poison Ivy, Zatanna that isn't $60, sexy Starfire and Raven, etc. Honestly if I were Mattel I'd be recording every figure that sold out that Todd isn't remaking and do those characters.

Can you get that Harley to make other convincing poses
Anonymous No.11515911 >>11515921
>>11515894
The figures you listed that Todd made that sold out and he didn't remake are females. And while the coomer crowd will buy a lot, they can't come close to holding a Hasbro or Mattel line on their back like Atlas. If Mattel overproduce Poison Ivy, Zatanna, Starfire and Raven early on as if they are on the same level as Wonder Woman, they will satisfy the coomer audience but there will be left over figures that pegwarm. They still have to get allocations right, which is difficult.

Of course there are male characters as well that sold out but some sold out by virtue of Todd underproducing ridiculously and Mattel will not know how many were produced of say The Question or Catman to know what they should go for in production or if they are worth trying to piggy back on Todd's sell out to fulfill the extra demand left over there.

Also they have to be allowed to make sexy Starfire and sexy Raven by WB/DC and their sculptors have to be up to doing it, which is a whole other thing.

>Azbats standing on a little table for some reason

>That DCD(?) Harley has a built in 'sexy twist' that Todd himself described but Todd's own Harley figures never had that

>Catwoman still has that huge extremely noticeable diaper, mediocre face sculpt, and yet everyone thinks she's the greatest figure since sliced bread for unknown reasons

I don't think I'll ever understand that Catwoman sell out. It's perhaps the perfect example of collectors buying to fill slots rather than buying the figure for what it actually looks like.

She can point her hand cannon but that's about it. The articulation sucks but she has the best Harley head sculpt in her jester costume and looks better without a million joints cut into her.

>>11515911
The DC community is Batman guys, Superman guys, and coomers. Clearly vampires and Jokerized variants were not what people wanted, and as you said, the female figures always sold out.
Star Sapphire, Maxima, Amanda Conner Power Girl, Lois Lane, Livewire, Phantom Lady, a Fire that doesn't suck, Ice, Killer Frost, etc all need new figures that both coomers and hardcore collectors never got from Todd.
Most of the statues that get made by Sideshow and Todd beyond Batman and Superman are sexy side characters like Zatanna, Batgirl, Supergirl, and Harley.

This faggot ass nonsense about girl characters not selling needs to stop.

I'm guessing Mattel will go back to 1/12 scale, so I can still cherry pick and keep the old DCUC when I want to, and shit will mesh well with Marvel Legends in displays.

I've bought many of the MOTU origins, and they make pretty solid buck bodies. So the DC figures should be pretty solid.

I think what pisses me off now looking at them more is that they're 7 inches, oversized, supposedly for extra details, but they can't be fucked to do pinless joints. Mattel's fucking Jurassic line is all pinless (both the dinos and 4 inch people), not gonna talk Hasbro because they're also pretty shit at doing pinless.

Don't forget the mcfarlane red swamp thing, from planet rann! I ended up custom painting mine a little; some orange to transition into the yellow flowers on the chest and painting the eyes red to match the comic. Also made another custom with some vestigial plant wings for the one with antlers to match the new 52 comic where he fought in that big battle with animal man.

I love the mcfarlane swamp things. Such a hefty figure with a lot of presence on the shelf. My only gripe is that since he's so big, it kind out looks out of scale with the other figures. I know he can be as big or small as he wants, but typically he's only a couple heads taller than the rest of the gang.

You may think this is an anti-Mattel post, but look closer at the figures. There are things Mattel does better and there are others McFarlane does better.

Look at how the shading on the jacket is properly distributed to make it look like a real coat on the Mattel, or how wrist wraps and hand wraps are actually there and painted on Mattel's figure. Note also that the Mattel figure has thigh cuts and hides its articulation better. It also has a true ab crunch so it likely can go further forward than the McFarlane.

The McFarlane on the other hand has double joints and paid more attention to texturing and shading on the Batsuit and the headsculpt, even as they neglected shading on the coat. The McFarlane obviously has an overall higher POA though how much of it is usable in the chest and legs is in question.

That might be enough to go off of to think the Superman might come out similar but I'd be wary of the Wonder Woman unfortunately given it's quite a different type of figure with less or no(?) cloth goods, so a Batman review probably wouldn't be applicable. Could also run into QC issues that are specific per figure.

There's something off about the "look" of the Batman figure though in that review, it doesn't replicate the animation exactly the way I'd like in some of its choices. And as you noted these are pretty huge at 1/6. That's enough downsides that I'd pass but I haven't heard of anyone but McFarlane putting out smaller scale of these recently and we all know what McFarlane quality is like. Maybe someone else will know of a 1/10 ot 1/12 scale third party doing something...

My Walmart connection is a single mother I went to school with. She’s 3 years older than me and it’s the same deal. Weekend pickups with smoking and fucking.
If I’m being honest the single mother has the tighter pussy. Something’s wrong with female zoomers.

Why do people want wire with cape.
I had a few wired capes with DAH figures and those always keep getting in the way with play.

>rubber cape
I would probably get more Mcfarlane's DC stuff if not for the fact 90% of his DC figures all have rubber cape. Have played with some, I always had a hard time to balance the figure with how heavy the cape were.

>Mcfarlane are just statue with moving parts

Yeah, now I see why . People just make a poses and forget about it.

>Their last DC effort was total crap
I'll politely disagree. I thought the deigns were serviceable, sculpts were mostly good and selections were great. It was also in 6 inch scale and compatible with Marvel Legends And other lines but /toy/ has always had a hateboner for DCUC, mostly for articulation or at least that was the excuse.

>that horrific subscription model that pissed people off
And I was one of them

>McFarlane did some things to set Mattel up for failure
Agree maybe for different reasons but Todd's run just didn't FEEL like DC. Also who the fuck was buying mono colored variants of characters?
>start the collector line at a ridiculously high price
Agreed, any other observation is a /pol/ issue

>They will have to make deeper cuts
The DCUC line made deeper cuts than anyone in DC toy history, Ultra Humanite, OMAC, Jemm, Silver Age Doom Patrol, Metal Men were miracles.

>screwed if they do and screwed if they don't on scale
You are 100% correct on that. DC toy fans are already heavily splintered because age/era of DC history but now you have to throw size/scale into consideration as well.

> they are chained to Gunn's movies
I suppose this is to be expected, question is how much wiggle room will they have?

Personally I'm not expecting DCUC to come back but I am hoping for 6inch scale and the occasional comic accurate deep cut but if we get 7inch modern I'll just continue to cherry pick.

Current plan is to put silver age forearms on and swap the gloves with no man’s land. Greys won’t match but it’ll be close enough. Blues should be exact.

See the reason I don't believe Todd is that responsible for many figure choices (not even as many as he would like you to believe to make it seem like he is 'in control') is that I consistently see other companies doing the same looks at the same time. People did some Returns figures recently, Beast Kingdom is doing Penguin for example, and Todd has his Returns wave coming. Higher end companies were doing Batman and Robin at near the same time Todd had a wave of that. Hot Toys does Killing Joke soon after Todd did that cover exclusive figure of it. High end statue guys even did Death Metal stuff around when Todd did as well. Spin Master did a Batman Forever wave and batmobile from that movie around the same time as Todd.

Obviously if it was only recent movies all being done around release to promote the movie it is obviously licensor mandated. But these are old films or even forced comic run promotion like Death Metal -- there seem to be other things the licensor can tell them to make and they have to go along with it because you can see a coordinated effort across unrelated companies.

Still, that is to expect because like >>11521173 said Moore love to get people raped in his comics, specially men. He even did a crazy reverse rape in one of them where an eldritch demon inside some 13yo girl swap bodies with a guy and rape the guy while he is inside the girls body, but at the same time the guy can watch the rape through his own eyes. Yeah, he's already on that level where normal rape is not enough for him.

Joker has a long history with rape.

>raping on panel Johny's gf in Azarello's Joker, which is the most famous modern Joker story
>In Batman All star he rapes and kills a woman
>Batman 1989 the woman with a burnt face is clearly implied to be an abuse/rape victim
>Ayer's cut Suicide Squad has the same Batman All Star scene which can be seen on trailers but was cut from the meme cut. Also he pisses on Harley's face in a cut scene. Then the script has Batman having some rough, kinda forceful sex with Harley
>Everything culminates with Joker II in which we finally see that rape can actually cure his madness, like Kryptonite to Superman

So yes, Joker and rape go hand in hand
