In one of the interviews in the MotU mini-comics collection, they mention that they had print runs larger than the most successful full-size comics ever, "I think 6 million".
In the peak years of 1985-6, each figure either came with a unique mini-comic or shared theirs with a second (like pic related, Modulok and Thunder Punch He-Man). If we assume unique comic = 3 million printed, instead of the character being produced in double quantity, that's still 3 million of each action figure for English-speaking markets alone.
That's almost enough for each of the 3.6 million boys and girls who turned 5 in the USA to own each figure.

NA is sort of like Jar Jar. If utilized properly it could be "the key to all of this". Despite the 30 year difference NA would mesh really well with RRH just as Mighty Herc would with standard MOTU. I can easily see the Merrymen joining forces with the Galactic Guardians against the Space Mutants.

From what I've been told the extra layer of approvals was kinda hell and Walmart tired of the line quickly. Superstars wasn't even expected to go on this long and now it's a regular damn line with new figures each year. It scratches that retro Remco itch, it gets wrestling fans, and pulls in MOTU fans. Without the MOTU accessories they are free to add more hands. alt heads, and cloth gear in the budget.

Usual things you'd expect. Complaints about the price. Complaints about not finishing the Vintage line still. Lot of complaints today about Filmation ending when they want to see it finished. Quite a few complaints about the Lair design being so boxy especially when compared in halfs to Grayskull and Snake Mountain. People tried to defend the price because it's not at retail stores and others were quick to point out Snake Mountain and Fright Zone also didn't go to retail stores. Mr.HomeArcade sucking that MC dick as hard as he could the whole stream. Complaints about the shipping costs and at least foreign market buyers will have to pay two shipping Bone Queen separate from the playset cost. Trying to get people to order multiples. They showed off a cord you can string across the two playset halfs but it requires separating the front and back pieces from the metal rod allowing the fold to close as a playset.
They just kept repeating how they're listening but never answered any actual questions or addressed concerns.
Damn, this price almost feels disrespectful.

nta but as far as fantasy sets go, assuming you meant the Monster Castle there were at least three known variants by different companies. Very thin plastic version, thicker plastic version and at least one version with glowing eyes, battery operated. Then there was a play-mat from the smaller Treasures of Those Lost Temples Warriors that came with 1:18 He-Man and She-Ra. Two known variants, one with H-M wearing the sun symbol chest armor, the other swastika armor. Then there is also La Gruta from the Monsters Of The Galaxy line. I think there was also a tree house themed playset for the MotU ko trolls iirc.

Has anyone tried putting the Cartoon collection She-Ra head on the Masterverse version? I can only find videos of the reverse on Youtube. What are the chances we get a 2.0 version of regular She-Ra, because if they just released the same figure again with the headsculpt of the New Etheria version it would immediately be a massive improvement. I'd also like for them to remove the diaphragm joint, it offers such little range of motion all it ends up doing is causing the figure to hunch over constantly.

The Elders are fine for filling in the world's backstory, but we have limited need for 5.5" action figures of old white men, and Eldor tops the list.

Ever think how likely the only Lost Wave guy we trully know is Strobo? And even then, comic might have messed up his colors. We dont know what were names planned for others or if there was some unique gimmick to them. Strobo had mirror instead of lenticular radar, maybe there were unique ideas for others.I think only Plasmar has sorta unique gimmick since his weapons are translucent and look like made from energy.

Yes.
Well, "Snake Horde Trooper" would probably be the same except possibly head color, since the armor was shaded black and troop builders don't need a fancy name.
(Note that it's actually a callback to the early Horde Trooper design where they were a multi-species group of people instead of robots.)

The 88 ninja was probably intended to be Heroic (he's fighting a Snake Man, though with MotU having multiple evil factions that's not conclusive) and white was a good guess by the people who had to come up with colorways for Classics, since Ninjor was traditional black. I would guess white ninja costumes had the second-highest profile in 1988, if only due to GI Joe's Storm Shadow.

This guy, though, would have looked completely different. Unless a missing Mattel document turns up (as
>>11521953 said), there's no way of guessing what colors they'd have chosen for his torso armor, Sssqueeze parts and cape. If I remember correctly, Danielle G was responsible for the colors and name "Plasmar", and mentioned choosing his skin color as Latino representation. That wasn't a thing at all back then. It's possible they might have made him black to make reuse of Fisto's head less obvious, but it's about as likely they'd have made him white with blond hair (Fisto himself had already used up the ginger and brunet options).

The Snake Man eventually named Terroar has his Trap Jaw arm, Mosquitor legs and boots shaded in such a way as to suggest intent to use those parts without any recoloring, so I guess the Classics and Origins toys got that right. But the bare scale parts would have had like a 1/5 chance of being purple (ruling out Rattlor red and Whiplash green).

For me it's
1. Daughter of a ghost wizard living in the ruins of Zalesia.
2. Hordak's daughter who doesn't recognize him (because she was fostered by someone else, never mentioned because CGI got canceled?)
3. Learned magic from years of living with Majestra upon running away from her cannibal parents.
4. Jealous crewmate of Marlena who got mutated into a magician, like Biff Beastman getting mutated into an ape/wolfman.

Having the Ark and Nemesis land on cybertron only for the natives to build new bodies for the various bots (homaging Pretenders indirectly in the process) just hyped me up a ton. He goes onto suggest some pretty wild but really fun mash ups over the course of the vid aswell. Some I've even tossed around in the thread before, like Trapjaw + Shockwave and Triklops + Soundwave. Others include
>She-Rod (She-Ra + Hot Rod)

The trope is true of most cats. I would guess it was an intentional joke at the design team, though between anyone who worked at Mattel Girls division besides Justine Dantzer being a shitty person ("flanker brand") and the fandom only being passionate about MotU brand toys, we don't have an interview to prove my hypothesis.
Incidentally, tigers like water.

The entire Shezar comic (not translated) in one handy dandy macro for you guys.
I was under the impression from what other Anons said that she was an Evil Warrior, but seeing the comic I'm not 100% sure if she was working with Skeletor and he betrayed her, or if she was independent and Skeletor just showed up and tried to steal her shit. (I don't speak the language so I can't tell what the dialogue reveals)

Yeah, Leela is like if Prince Adam with his cloth vest was He-Man's twin brother instead of his secret identity, and got a much fancier steed than Battle Cat.
It's also obvious that the backstory was made up with no help from actual writers: "Oh, she's the Sorceress' other daughter, and she and Teela were raised in different planets to protect them (from whom? Show us a cool new enemy)"

Remember that Mattel had been afraid that boys 4-11 don't like a recognizable He-Man since bafflement at disappointing sales of the 2002 figures led to a focus group where the boys told them they don't like He-Man because he doesn't wear clothes. By Wave 5, which was before the Snake Men refresh, they were recoloring figures with the original bare skin to look like tank tops and tight pants.
Revelation had the loincloths because it was nostalgia bait for viewers 40+.
We'll have to see what the 2026 movie toys look like and how they market MotU to kids to see if "we're afraid barbarians look gay to boys" is a thing of the past.

The whole thing is retarded to me because I never hear "boys don't like wrestlers because they don't wear enough clothes and it's gay"
And wrestling figures have been a thing during every time MotU has rebooted itself and has never gone away, and presumably boys have been eating them up for decades
So if MotU isn't popular, it's not just the physiques or the amount of clothes. Even if that was part of it, theres got to be some third or fourth criteria causing it that makes big burly half naked guys cool when it's WWE but cringe when it's He-Man

Dadanon here, I can say that my kids have all said at some point "where are He-Man pants?" or why is he in his underwear. I just said it's hot on Eternia and that was good enough. Never stopped their enjoyment of the show or toys. It didn't seem mean spirited or derisive when they asked either. More just typical 6 year old talk.
The CGI He-Man was met with more mockery for looking derpy and not looking like He-Man.
Mattel, you are welcome for this free bit of market research. you can make it up to me by not stopping PoP toys.
Please don't let the perverts scare you away from making Raz. She's in all the books and the show. Same with Glimmer although she's not as much of a meme. This is for the girl who doesn't think Bow is cool but still said I was allowed to buy him for her.

Adora/She-Ra, Bow, Glimmer and Madame Razz were definitely the good guys the writers wanted to use in every episode, and Mattel won't make half of them, let alone the less-used heroes other than Frosta.

Other characters who were in nearly every episode?
Something that would be even cheaper for Mattel than making a new Glimmer would be reissuing the non-articulated Classics figurines of Kowl, Loo-Kee and Imp.
And ideally they'd remake every PoP character who had a vintage toy (Double Trouble possibly excepted), maybe the same year they finally recreate vintage MotU in Origins, LOL.

Unless we see a couple of upticks it's gonna fall short at its current pace. 17 days at a hundred a day only gets us to ~4700 by the end. And that's if it DOESNT slow down again instead.

The typical release was cartoon style. Some were more like the toys, but not having rooted hair was an issue when they did that.
Like here's Perfuma: Filmation had a powder pink dress with slippers and bare arms. The toy's pink was hot pink, she wore boots and green bracers, and came with a giant flower gun that could also plug into her back around her hair.

Why couldn't Mattel and Hasbro's first MOTU collab be between series that make sense? Like Power Rangers? I mean MOTU and PR are almost the same exact thing just MOTU has several freaks as good guys, unless you count CGI Netflix one guy with a transformation sequence, and is set in fantasy/techno land.
Not to mention the Masters in colorful stylized spandex would look better than them cosplaying as robots and a Skeletor/Lord Zedd fusion wouldn't look nearly as stupid as the Megatron one.

I never got around to watching Revolution because of how much Revelation pissed me off, Teela bait and switch aside, it got so many things wrong about the characters, like completely forgetting Orko's backstory. Yeah, possibly not. We know producer Ted Biaseli(sp?) was a huge fan of the vintage toys, mini-comics and Filmation, but it's not clear that anyone in the writers room even watched Filmation, and the Powerhouse artists were given free reign to visually redesign everyone after the timeskip in ways that didn't fit the pre-existing aesthetic "language" of Eternia.

You think this guy will get an Origins figure through Mattel Creations? He could use Leatherhead's loincloth, tail and hands along with the King Hiss arms and legs above the boot cut, ToG bat wings, He-Ro's greaves and Hordak's feet. Could get away with just a new head and breastplate, though getting the unique shield and flaming sword would be ideal.

I'm a Snakefag, and even I think that is insane. Is it a sign of how badly Star Wars has dropped off in the last few years, or a sign that MOTU fans will buy anything? I would put it down to the quality of the Gunship Haslab, but I think both crowdfunds are equal in terms of being high cost and low value for money.

It's a vehicle 20% bigger than the various releases that have been on the market since Episode II. There's like 7 versions out there to buy including Wm and TRU exclusive styles which were $50 to $75 at the time of last run. No one asked for this vehicle short of it being in 6" Black Series scale. Yes, I know that's not what the minicomic Stratos looked like, but 1) he doesn't have the collar so he's inaccurate already, and 2) it'd given people who got the regular Stratos an incentive to buy this one to swipe the accessories and turn the regular Stratos into the variant version

Nope, fuck Scott and fuck King Grayskull they both suck. Wundar's cool and the concept art He-Man figures were a nice addition to the line. They didn't require a painful and poorly written retcon to justify their production.
I don't know if this constitutes blasphemy in the MOTU fan sphere, but lately I've been feeling like the Filmation cartoon has actually been detrimental to the overall story of He-Man, namely the addition of Cringer and Prince Adam as the "true" identity of He-Man. To me it feels like the Filmation elements took MOTU an enhanced Conan-alike and made He-Man into another Superman/superhero knock off, with a secret identity and whacky sidekicks. There's elements of that secret identity schtick that work for superheros but doesn't really make sense for He-Man. If villains found out that Superman, or Spider-Man were Clark Kent/Peter Parker, then they would go after their friends and family, so a secret identity makes sense to keep their loved ones safe, but everyone He-Man is close to is highly skilled warrior capable of holding their own without issue (story requirements notwithstanding), or they're royalty with Randor and Marlena, who are already targets due to their titles.
Don't get me wrong, I do really like the Filmation cartoon, and I like what I've seen of 200X, this isn't some "I want the silly 80s cartoon for kids to be super serious!" thing I like the cartoon for what it is, I just feel like that now being the definitive version of MOTU is kinda limiting. I've been reading the mini comic collection and as the stories have start incorporating elements of the cartoon it just feels like the story has gone from adventures during the "days of high adventure" to something less grand. I'd love to hear the thoughts of other anons, and if this isn't really suitable for this board I can make this a thread over on /co/.

And yes, making He-Man a superhero with all the tropes didn't really work.
Superman had Lois Lane to protect from Action Comics #1. She doesn't respect Clark Kent, and he can't fix his love life by telling her because she'd be a constant target as a normal woman. Almost every Silver Age DC and Marvel superheroes found this romantic soap opera subplot useful to copy.
With He-Man, his father and Teela having no respect for his secret identity just looks like the Sorceress swore him to secrecy to psychologically abuse him, because they're already the first obstacle in Skeletor's path and an elite warrior picked to guard him. Just let the poor man be an unarmored D&D Paladin with his Holy Avenger sword.

One other element I don't get is He-Man gets he power from Greyskull, Skeletor wants to get into Greyskull, by all appearances Greyskull IS a functioning castle just in a state of disrepair and mess. Why doesn't He-Man just move into the castle? He's constantly off somewhere else and has to rush to get to Greyskull. I know it's good for excitement, and of course he wouldn't be there 24/7, but would it not make sense to let the place you're tasked with defending also be your power base?

Regardless of who did it first, Filmation is what popularized it and made it the de facto "true" canon.
Just for a thought experiment, pretend for one second that DC still did Prince Adam as He-Man and the minicomics still adapted it after the first year, but that Filmation did NOT use Adam and treated He-Man like Blackstar. Do you think Prince Adam as the secret identity would be as rigidly set in stone as the default in the modern day? Because I don't think it would because like it or hate it, the original cartoon is what's treated as the core of MotU mythology

Kull tore the veil away with one motion and recoiled with a gasp. Delcardes screamed and her knees gave way; the councillors pressed backward, faces white and the guard released their grasp and shrank horror-struck away.
The face of the man was a bare white skull, in whose eye sockets flamed livid fire!
βThulsa Doom!β
βAye, I guessed as much!β exclaimed Ka-nu.
βAye, Thulsa Doom, fools!β the voice echoed cavernously and hollowly. βThe greatest of all wizards and your eternal foe, Kull of Atlantis. You have won this tilt but, beware, there shall be others.β

There are a lot of comics, books and mini-comics where Adam may not be officially removed from the story but he appears so little, he might as well be gone. Sometimes there isn't enough pages for sub-plois and all He-Man pals are Adam pals anyway so you at best you have him transform at start and rest of the story is just He-Man. For example in Origins, we haven't seen prince Adam since 6th Wave with Webstor.
Funny thing that one logical reason for why Adam needs to protect his secret is that he could be ambushed as Adam but...transformation has no limit. He might as well stay He-Man forever.
So the only explanation would be if bad guys knowing that He-Man is regular dude transformed by magic sword somehow would be a bad thing. But I mean, they're already after his power source, Castle Grayskull so...
Funny thing is that a lot of superheroes start by relying on superhero clishes and then evolve past them. Secret identities being classics example. When was last time you saw Wonder Woman with secret identity? Did you know that Beast, Ghost Rider, Thor and Hulk all used to have double lives?

Yes. I grew up in the 80s. The biggest gripe I had with the cartoon was Orko sucked hard (and Lou Scheimer did so many variations of him in so many other cartoons, and they ALL sucked!), but even worse, they were SO cheap they had only 4 or so voice actors doing every goddamn voice, and He-Man's actor had such poor range everyone he voiced outside of He-Man/Adam sounded like a dumbass doing a goofy voice.
Also as a kid, the mini-comics were pretty fucking metal. But the cartoon was disappointingly G-rated. You have everyone with axes and swords and its all bloodless with zero carnage.

I liked both the He-Man and She-Ra cartoons insofar as they stuck in my memory, but they were soon gone from syndication and it was always the mini-comics informing my play when I'd pull the boxes of MotU toys out in 92 or whatever.
