>>11523286I don't think there is enough depth to have full rooms on the other side, but there might be some small compartments in certain areas? Think the really shitty and undetailed areas on the backs of the diorama sets. This set seems to be 10 mini dioramas all smashed into one and designed to be hung on a wall, so maybe there are some little easter eggs on the back. It's clearly not designed to be viewed from multiple angles like the old Death Star playsets, or something like the MBS Cantina or Betrayal at Cloud City. I guess this explains why we didn't get any minifig scale dioramas this year. One thing I wonder is whether they are calling this UCS or MBS. It looks like the box says MBS but the text is cut off so it's hard to tell.

Hasbro SW toys aren't being wounded by unsellable Holdos anymore. Hasbro insists on all sorts of weird scales that collectors won't buy. First it was the Mission Fleet toys that try to sell slightly-improved Playskool figures as regular action figures. Neither kids nor adults want that; it's babyish and inferior. Then, it was the 4" figures that collectors don't want because they're out of scale with everything else. Something weird is going on.

I might be able to believe that, similar to how you can photocopy a small thing vs a large thing, the photocopier would still run at the same speed
but my instinct says Lego could make a lot more $10 sets rather than $400 sets, but... maybe not 40x
and other than the first The Lego Movie sets, I've NEVER seen sets sell out or be unavailable. they exist on store shelves for years and years. so probably BS on the supply issue, at least

>>11523371who's the bandana guy with the parrot? the mute?
also lmao at the black chick, she had what, 4 lines in curse?
>>11523197 (OP)I kinda get it. A truly spherical shape really just isn't conducive toward properly making use of space. The "playset" deathstars frankly suck and the awkward shape makes it hard to have big-enough rooms, or to have enough rooms in the first place. Making it a vertical slice means the individual dioramas can be much better. Same issue with the MBS cloud city set. Making it a horizontal circle means awkward room design and poor space efficiency,
Having said that, it really should've been round on the back half, so that it can be displayed with either interior or exterior forward. Alternatively, if the set is a big collection of dioramas, it would've been much cooler if they just continued to make more small dioramas (trash compactor, throne room, etc) and then have them be modular or something.
Also, regardless of design, there really aren't enough figs. I believe I paid 300 for the cantina set and that had over 20 figures in it. This doesn't even have double that for 3x the price. And if anything, the higher price should have an inverse curve and include proportionately MORE figures
At any rate, gonna be a pass. I do wish they would make more master builder series though. The cantina is absolutely GOATED and I hate how few SW locations/buildings get made into lego sets, with the focus being almost exclusively on vehicles. Hoping for jabba's palace to one day get the MBS treatment.
>>11523411the stickers on UCS sets are flat-out unforgivable. My 20 dollar lego star wars sets from 25 years ago all used prints for everything, but for some reason even UCS sets costing several hundred dollars can't be bothered. I bough the jango slave 1 and overall I like the model, but I didn't put a single sticker on. I'd rather have those parts of the build be slightly incorrect than have shitty stickers, especially prominently on the exterior.
>huge increase in price
>Decreasing construction quality
>Nonsensical releases

I just don't really know who the market this is for. I can imagine adult collectors dropping big cash for those detailed sets that look like scale models, but this is essentially a gigantic doll house play set. Last time Lego did this with the Cloud City master builder series set, it did not sell well.
The old sphere death stars were even super pricey. Doing a 4-5 storey tall platform without walls like the kenner toy for $200 or so would mean kids could actually get it for Christmas / Birthdays.

>>115237006000 of those - in that and many other colors
>>11523541Yeah, and it's a damn shame. MBS represented everything I wanted in a lego set as a kid, like a platonic ideal. UBS can be cool, but giant fragile ships that can't really be played with and aren't dynamic isn't really what lego is about. When I was a kid, there were these smaller sets that might have represented a small slice or resemblance of a location, but rarely did we get fully fleshed out locations and buildings, because it would be too expensive and too many pieces. MBS gave us exactly what I wanted. Large-scale playset with tons of detail and polish. Not to mention a shitload of really cool minifigs.
Did MBS not sell well or something? That's surprising, I thought SWfags cared more about minifigs than anything else. And isn't the best way to pose and display figs in large dynamic locations rather than just having your precious figs on a plaque or tucked away in a ship cockpit?
Hey, I have literally 5 Kuro wanted posters, I was wondering if there is rarity to them or if it literally is just chance? I have Kuro x5, Buggy x3, Arlong x2, Alvida x3, and Mihawk x2. >>11523397Yes the green locomotive is far superior to the white one that came with the car carrier. Buy it - itโs a nice train.
I think if Lego is to make a UCS death star the way people wanted, it would be more than $1,000 and not possible to sell it at "regular" retail
The Imperial apartment is the compromise
So how do we solve this?
>Lego needs it own "haslab"
Yes. Lego needs its own crowdfunding system.
Plenty of people have been saying they will pay whatever the price they have to pay if the product is "worth" the price.
So an Ultimate UCS Death Star that
>is a ball
>Can be build as I or II.
>Proper size for diorama of scenes from Star Wars and Return of the Jedi (depending on whether you build I or II)
>Fully enclosed into a ball
>Opening bays for small/micro tie or shuttle in enclosed ball form
Let's just give what people wanted and see if they are willing to put their money where their mouths are no?
They don't even have to make it limited run. They should able to come up with a number with the original funding that once met, any future releases can be made by custom order through lego directly.
If they don't half ass this, the fans should have no problem funding this right?
>>11523197 (OP)Lego death star be like
>>11523750Or you don't do it. I don't wanna see $5000 sets
>>11523750Really we can just skip over diorama scenes. People want the Death Star for displaying as the Death Star, they pay for the ball they get a ball
How would you even make a smooth round ball while still getting enough interior space? I think you could make a decent Death Star for 9000pcs/1000$ but you'd have to compromise the smoothness of the outer hull and the interior floors. It would look like a playset but just HUUUGE.
>>11523258Where is the shaft to throw the emperor into?
>>11523755Idk but that's what I hope the 1000 dollar price tag would cover
I think that's it really. If this set wasn't so expensive there'd be no issues. Hell it would be fine in the death star line as a new take. But 1000 dollars? I know its becoming cliche to complain about lego pricing... but where does the line in the sand go. If you don't make one they will run away with such insanity

but Disney are aggressive and like to push their weight, so
>>11523848I mean. Lego had a better deal with WB back then but noe its more Disney, Nintendo and some Universal and leds WB

>>11523852Considering how im always reading about how lego production lines are limited & a problem for them, it won't surprise me
Disney would 100% be shitting themselves about a pokemon line. Especially if its to be like mario, with more affordable toy sets that are modular + display sets
Post themes that make you feel like "damn, we didn't know how good we had it"
>>11523197 (OP)To be fair, this is exactly what Lego seems to be about now : a huge minifig bubble
As much as I don't like the new Death Star design, I think it completely makes sense : this is directed toward people who will want to display it on a shelf alongside records and a pot of aloe vera
The time where a spherical Death Star with play features was valuable to the "fanbase" is far behind

Pokemon will have a mix of brick-built sets and custom molds, and theyโll make sets based on the iconic locations from the games, and all the sets will be affordable and always in stock.
>>11523887If they go the mario route they probably will have lots of affordable sets, desu it feels like star wars they know the audience is mostly afols that collect storm trooper armies. Nintendo actually wanna sell to kids

>>11523962>calling others poor>needs to scam retards to be able to afford the setUh anon?
>>11523203This honestly borders on false advertising, any person would see the box art and reasonably assume that its at least a half sphere, given the death star is a famously spherical structure. The only thing to indicate otherwise is that wire frame drawing in the corner.
Just a conceptually flawed set. Although I have never seen a good moc of the death star either, its exterior is quite boring.
I think they got it right the first time they did it, they should have just polished up that.
If lego made a $1000 pirates ship you fags would be happy
Nu death star ain't so bad
The meems this set generated is fun
>>11523970there is no chance lego could justify a $1000 pirate ship
they only demand this much for star wars because star wars paypigs will buy it along with the star wars tax

Post sets you wish got the $1000 price treatment.
I'll start
Lego star wars sets are ridiculously overpriced, is it safe to say that people are only buying these for the minifigs? At a certain point it becomes more much more viable to just bricklink the build, unless you care about the heckin rare figurinos.
For the deathstar, I'm sure it will still sell enough to be a big success for lego. The marketing strategy here is clearly to target a few whales rather than a bunch more kids who only have lunch money to spend. But that sort of demographic, are they the ones who would be interested in a giant interior doll house diorama? The master builder series didn't sell that well from what I understand, and this is basically that rather than UCS.
>>11523970Everyone is bitching about the black pearl $400 price tag what are you on about
>>11523981$400 for burgers
Europeans will pay $340
I will get it on a discount
DC IS BACK BABYYYY
WE ARE SO BAAAACK
>>11523978Based. My favorite was pic-related. Sure, the raised baseplate is doing a lot of the heavy-lifting, but I loved how giant it made the whole playset be. Not to mention the modularity and how the different parts of the set can be easily swapped around. Truly designed for building and play.
There's always hope that one of the adventurers sets could get the Icons treatment like lion knight castle or eldorado fortress. Or I'd love to get the wild west fort redone. Never had that one as a kid but I always wanted it.
A Buffy the vampire slayer set has entered development for the Icons theme at Lego, they just got the license and will release ahead of the Hulu reboot.
>>11523996Sadly I think eldorado flopped but I'm surprised Creator didn't do an adventirers pyramid yet
>>11523979Well whenever I see star wars lego posted online it's always
>haul collection! Me pictured with 4 massive 400 dollar sets in their boxes >a storm trooper army so yeah, lego probably know exactly what they're doing
they only need a select number of whales to purchase it to break even
Oh there's 1 more subset: celebrities seem to love building the death stars. The Rock did it to name one
>>11523960The Death Pancake.
>>11523986Hopefully one is a Superman movie spaceship. I can't believe that after mostly ignoring DC throughout the 2010s, I'm hyped.
>>11524002Never understood the obsession with clone trooper armies. Don't get me wrong, I would've loved to have more minifigs as a kid so I could act out bigger battles, in the same way that I wish I had more pieces so I could create larger settings to pose all the figures in.
But the clonefags I always see online almost never do stuff like that. They just have flat baseplates lined with a hundred clones who just stand there. Is that supposed to look cool? They're not even posed in an environment. It's lame.
Pokemon releases in march? Also whats on february 27th that has plebbit tie it with lego pokemon?
>>11524008There was so much set potential for the new movie. Lego put so much faith in Marvel lol.
>>11523243It's time for everyone to admit the cantina set is the best "location based" star wars set. Huge number of really good figs and decent size and lots of content for the price. Can be displayed in multiple different ways due to how the various pieces can be unlocked and reconfigured. Looks really good both when displayed closed-up as well as opened to show the interior.
The other big location sets are either too abstract, like trying to cramp cloud city into a circle to give it a vaguely cloud-city like appearance (which they fucked up by not having a retractable cover to actually make it look like cloud city from the outside) or they're just a bunch of random dinky little bullshit packed together, like with the hoth set, where it just feels like they took several 20 dollar sets and made a combo pack.
>>11524009Yeah. We have some good star wars moccers on /toy/ that do some cool things and have enough soldiers for it. But the bulk of buyers are definitely collecting to put on display. Miniature funkopops basically
>>11523970I love pirates but a hypothetical 1000 pirate set would be retarded. The remake of Barracuda Bay was about as good as anyone could have wanted. 4 companion sets in that range of different pirate/imperial faction ships would be cool. For the same cost. And you can set up the ships to fight with each other. That would be cool. 4 250 dollar sets are much greater than one stupid 1000 dollar set.
>>11524014I do. This is probably the best Star Wars set since before episode 3. I wish Star Wars would do more slice of life stuff. Like give me City or Modulars but Star Wars. Thatโs what I want. I would buy five of every set they did like this
>>11524013F4 only got 1 set
didn't even come with extra flame-on version minifig
to be fair, the FF movie really only needed this one set. it's simple, and "the whole movie" for little effort. Lego threw a couple sets at New Cap movie they banked on popularity of "Hulk -but red!" and maybe Disney told them to push it
any -one- set for the new Superman movie would have seemed like not-enough. that movie was all over the place with gazillions of characters and stuff. even a simple tech room with Superman & Luther would have needed to include a dozen other characters. Mr. Terrific, Lois, Jimmy, Ms. Tessmacher, Otis (?)... Hawkgirl and Green Lantern would get ignored and cause people to be upset... oh, and certainly a new mold for Super Puppy. you NEED the dog! sigh... it's too much! ugh just forget it.
I'm not saying it's a bad movie, I enjoyed it. it just didn't have "that one scene" that would have been perfect to do a Lego set from. and if you point out the Galactus scene and Giant Monster scene are basically the same scene (your not wrong) it wasn't the big moment of the movie (it would have been super cute for Lego to include the one squirrel Superman saved!)
>>11524010Pocket Monsters Red & Green came out February 27 of 1996. It's the 30th anniversary of Pokemon
>>11524020It's hard to justify 1000 for anything. Almost every idea you could think of would just be a combo what should just be multiple sets (like sticking a pirate ship, a navy ship, and a port together when they could just be separate sets in the same line)
>>11524023Star wars really gets shafted when it comes to any locations. Other themes get plenty of sets representing buildings, environments, and so on. But with star wars it's just ships ships ships ships, and sometimes you get something that's just the facade of a blastdoor or something. I really don't get it. There are so many environments they could design. MBS versions of places like the jedi temple. The seedy coruscant bar from Ep2. Kamino. Palpatine's office. Lars' homestead. And there have been several smaller versions of Jabba's palace, at least, but I'd absolutely love to see that one get the MBS treatment.
>>11524027A fortress of solitude character could have included a lot of characters
Also, F4 still needs Surfer and the car
>>11524014I love the speeder that came with this set, one of my favorite designs
>>11523197 (OP)holy shit, 1000$! you lego fans are something else.
>>11524031>tfw no master builder series dexter jettster's diner
>>11524039Unironically that would be really cool. Just random restaurants and living spaces. Thatโs what I want.
>>11523197 (OP)I don't have enough money to buy this but if I were rich it would be a day 1 purchase. Anyone who doesn't agree is retarded.
>>11523197 (OP)That's it, I'm done with lego star wars
We will never heal
I SWEAR ON GOD'S LIFE ITSELF IF THERE IS EVEN A SINGLE STICKER THAT I HAVE TO PLACE I WILL HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE THAN TO EAT A SILICA GEL PACKET!!!!!
Imagine drunk driving this bad boy
>>11524047it doesn't matter.
nobody will ever open this box or build the set
it's a "collectible" of epic proportions
the BOX will display equally douche-baggie on your shelf just as much as the built set. as a matter of fact, you might get MORE D-Bag points for displaying the un-opened box.
Lego is going to fill it with rocks, that "sound" like shaking bricks from an X-mas present. confident in the fact that nobody dares to open something they just spent $1000 on, if you open it, you can't re-sell it later for twice that much!
>>11523197 (OP)Mark my words. This set will go down to $500 thanks to discounts.
Let's do price comparisons, what would you get for $1000 lego wise instead of the death star?
>>11524067I would get 11 pirate ship 3-in-1s and create an armada
>>11524047The stickers with modern lego is absolutely nuts. When I was a kid I got the original jango slave I. It didn't have a single sticker, everything was printed. 23 years later I get the UCS jango's indentured servant I, and while the build itself was very impressive and I like the model a lot, it didn't have a SINGLE printed piece. Everything was stickers. Not just for cockpit control panels, but for promient areas on the hull and windscreen too. I just built it without using any of the stickers, I'd rather just keep a clean aesthetic over that.
>>11524063In your dreams. 25% would be the absolute max and even that would be extremely generous
