/dmg/ End of De Minimis General
When do you guys think that Tokyo Otaku Mods and other online retailers will resume shipments to the U.S. As it currently stands we are around 2 weeks in and the current administration has made no effort whatsoever to reverse the ending of De Minimis. Because of this, shipping services like Japan Post have halted all shipments above $100 but below $800 to the United States.

Have you guys pre-ordered anything that is currently in limbo because of this situation? When do you think shipments will resume?

I honestly think this whole tariff situation has been one of the biggest modern day gaslighting mail issues in recent memory. It was "pitched" as bringing back American jobs (lol) and making other countries" pay their fair share", but in reality it has basically turned our USPS system into an European Union style import tax.

De Minimis is a different issue from the current idiot trade export BS going on with tariffs and has nothing to do with congress or the courts. It's not going to go "back" or be "reverse[d]" - even Biden was planning to do away with it - at least at the $800 amount.

The one stupid, like almost all other shit they are doing, that the current idiots did was doing it without any planning or support, which is why everyone else just said 'fuck you' get your cheap shit from elsewhere. As this anon wrote, if they had calculated reasonable >>11559158
>percentage tax on every order like the rest of the world
and given the rest of the planet reasonable notice, you only would have noticed that shit was HIGHER PRICED before you even ordered something and y'all wouldn't be stressing about your plastic crap from China/Japan, etc.

The best outcome is that a new administration, three years from now, will put back a small De Minimis, like $100, but since most of you are buying collectibles that are over that, it won't help you, and since tariff will continue to jump around until someone who has never admitted he was wrong in 80 years admits they aren't working, which means never, y'all are stuck with price increases until 2029, at the earliest.

de minimis is a totally different thing that keeps products under $X from being subject to tariffs, so yes that would not be under the purview of the tariff suits which are about said tariffs themselves.

The only question then is...if the tariff suit was won and the rate goes to 0 on China then...what tariff would de minimis be saving you from even if it did exist?

>TOKYO -- Japan’s exports to the United States plummeted 13.8% in August compared to the same month the previous year, marking the fifth straight month of declines, as auto exports were hit by President Donald Trump’s tariffs.

>The Finance Ministry data released Wednesday showed the rate of the drop in exports to the U.S. compared to the previous year worsened from a 10.1% slip in July.

>U.S. tariffs on Japanese automobiles and auto parts decreased from 27.5%, the amount Trump initially levied, to 15% this week, but that’s still higher than the original 2.5%.

>Wednesday’s data reflect the month of August, when the tariffs were higher. Japan’s overall exports were little changed, slipping 0.1%, as exports grew to Europe and the Middle East.

>The provisional data for August showed Japan’s imports from the world fell 5.2% from a year ago. Imports from China grew 2.1%, while exports to China fell 0.5%. Imports from the U.S. grew 11.6%.

>Exports to the world grew in food, gaining 18%, as well as in ships, growing by nearly 25%. Imports grew in computers, adding nearly 35% on-year, while aircraft rose 21%.
