I'm planning to visit the following places in June:
Kuala lumpur
Cameron highlands
George town
Perhentian
Medan (sumatra orangutans)
I arrive and depart from KL. Any recommendations to move from one place to the other, and in which order?
Going to Cameron Highlands seems like a pain in the ass since the bus is 3 to 4h are there better alternatives?
Better alternatives to Perhentian to dive? (not in Borneo)
Are Singapore or Melaka worth visiting?
Any other places worth visiting?
All tips welcome
Train then bus to outlying places or a long grab that will be stupid cheap
The train is alright I used it a few times it's fairly cheap too just kinda dirty but that will be a very common thing there.
George Town is fine, it's a mix of old fucks, chinese boomers, and people who successfully crypto scammed others. There is no way locals driving those kinds of cars who aren't call center monkey scammers.
>Are Singapore or Melaka worth visiting?
You can blow through singapore in less than a week to see everything, and I do mean everything worth seeing. Problem is it costs a lot to do anything so this board instantly hates it.
Also stay out of the water
>>2777112 (OP)>Going to Cameron Highlands seems like a pain in the ass since the bus is 3 to 4h are there better alternatives?hire a car or a car+driver. depends how much you want to spend and how crazy you are (malaysians drive like kamikaze pilots and accidents are common on the twisty roads around cameron highlands)
>Better alternatives to Perhentian to dive? (not in Borneo)not my thing but i have heard perhentian is one of the best places. you could try some of the other islands e.g. tioman
>Are Singapore or Melaka worth visiting?have you ever been there before? if no, then yes
>Any other places worth visiting?possibly, but without even a vague suggestion of what you might be interested in, your budget etc, an appropriate answer is unlikely

>>2777120>Problem is it costs a lot to do anythingI don't get this meme, for a first world country, it's really not that expensive if you don't want it to be.
>cheap as fuck public transport>$5 (USD) dinners in food courts>$1.50 takeaway tallboys from corner stores>$60 for a 23yo Vietnamese whore at a legal brothel in Geylang>$50 a night for a private room/shared bathroom in BugisFor what it is, think the city is far better value than most of Europe, and without the degenerates
>>2777112 (OP)I'll be visiting Malaysia in six days and spending a fair bit of time exploring the northern and central part of the country before flying back to America (probably with Xiamen Airlines because it's super cheap). You can stop in Ipoh on your way to Cameron Highlands to reduce the travel time.
Malacca is awesome. It's more soulful than other Malaysian cities, with its old neighborhoods and cultural variety. Lots of cute rich Chinese girls go there on vacation with their beta orbiters. I haven't been to Penang but from what I've heard there's a lot more white people there than in Malacca.
>>2777284>I don't get this meme, for a first world country, it's really not that expensive if you don't want it to be.50 quid?!?! a night what the fuck kind of NPC brain broken burger brain is this? If you're taking holiday in SEA you shouldn't pay more than 10 quid a night unless you're mental. Even the 8-10 they charge now is ridiculous because how it was before covid and burgers started traveling willingly paying higher prices and not haggle them down.
>>2777441>quidI clearly stated dollars you retarded bong
Do you even know Bugis? Its one of the most upmarket places in Singapore.
Have fun in your $10 a night shithole, far from the city centre with the literal lowest pieces of scum on earth outside your door 24/7 begging for change.
You wouldn't understand the concept of value if it got rammed into your ass every night you cheap pathetic poorfuck
>>2777112 (OP)>Malaysiaseamonkeys with arrogance of koreans and none of the justification. Expensive as east asia with nothing to offer. If you want beaches, go to flipland or thailand. Why bother with this shithole?
>>2777590Malaysia has 1 justification for going to it. If you're abroad for extended periods of time Malaysia can be a pretty good place to invest in for a up to 90 days. KL is cheap as fuck if booked ahead for a 1br, refreshing your wardrobe can also be cheap, there are enough people to meet with to pass the time, and if you are a DN the infrastructure is solid enough. Probably the best visa reset country if in SEA unless you're planning to goon 24/7.
The wors things about Malaysia is just that everything is dirty and the Chinese who fly down acting like billionares is so fucking annoying. Anything nice worth seeing you can guarantee yourself you'll have a family of Ho's and Xi's flooding around trying to get shit at a discount or simply flooding past you acting like they deserve to be first. I guess one other disappointing thing is that the food is wildly overhyped, food-tubers have ruined any possible criticism of it. It's cheap as hell for sure and the presentation can be nice at times, but overall it's meh.
>>2777441Let Agoda's market dominance muscle the price down for you. The hotel desk staff don't have any authority to give you a discount on the posted room rates, so don't be a pissraeli and give them a hard time to save a dime. $13 USD per night is very doable in Thailand, VN, Laos etc. but in Malaysia you're scraping the bottom of the barrel at that price point.
>>2777590Nonetheless, this anon is wrong about how expensive Malaysia is. There are plenty of great rooms at the $20 price point, even in touristy areas. That's not the case anywhere in East Asia. Malays like halal white guys BTW. Your average anti-racist kike loving westoid will experience culture shock in Malaysia.
>>2777585>upmarket>shared bathroomOh come on now. The only acceptable setting for a shared bathroom is a homestay where two guest bedrooms might share one bath.
>>2777602Food is flavormaxxed but often lacking in quality, true. Monthly rentals are very cheap, but trust me, you'll be bored out of your mind alone and idle in a Malaysian suburb for a whole month.
>everything is dirtyThe frequent rains keep grime levels down, but the open gutters are an eyesore and a hazard, with flimsy gutter covers frequently broken.
>floods of ChineseUh, yellow fever anons? Isn't this a big plus?
>>2777624>but in Malaysia you're scraping the bottom of the barrel at that price point. It's completely ignoring the ten ringgit tourism charge at every legit accommodation too.
>>2777624I said bugis is upmarket not the place.
I like the model better then normal hostel too.
Was a cool place, amazing location right across the road from the mrt
You could hire a gaming pc to have put in your room to play at night, gaming computers also available in the common areas, cool people there without the seethe you usually find in shared room hostels.
I put my parents up in a 4 star hotel down the road for $400 a night at the same time and it was shit
>>2777624>Uh, yellow fever anons? Isn't this a big plus?HAHAHAHAHAHA
No, 90% of those fuckers are scam artists don't worry I am sure the chinese girl really just wants to go to get a few drinks first, oh the vibe is off here let's go some other bar first, "brb gotta freshen up" and gone. The chinese girls are notorious for running that scam shit there since the cops won't do shit and the places that serve the drinks are all run by the chinese.
Malaysia is the worst place to go for casual hookups
>>2777790The tinder expensive bottle of alcohol scam is basically half of all dates you'll get in KL.
Dating in Malaysia is fucking terrible.
The sex ratio is something insane like 1.10 and that doesn't include the few million illegal workers which are basically all bangladeshis on construction sites.
mid and below average Chinese-Malaysian women have the most over-inflated opinions of themselves as a result, the rare hot Indian-Malaysian woman is completely swamped with jeet orbiters, the rest are obscenely fat. Malay women all have a family member ready to have you put in jail for sex before marriage.
Just don't bother single bros, there's a reason it's such a sexless country and has the highest virginity age on Earth.

So what's KL like? I've been there only once for 2 days, and that was like 15 years ago. Anything good about it? What's the cooming situation there?
I just came back from Jakarta, and it absolutely sucked. It's not a tourist friendly city. I wonder if KL is the same
>>2778106KL is honestly pretty shit for tourism.
Go to a white people enclave like Mt Kiara or Damansara Heights and its good to live in.
For a tourist though, why bother? There's a few dozen better places both in the country and in the region
>>2778481It's still so full of tourists & diversity & rich assholes that it feels like an Asian New York City sometimes. Kuala Lumpur gave me a bad first impression of Malaysia, but desu I can't name a single big city in the world that I like.
>>2778104Get with the times, nigga. I left Thailand two weeks ago. Malaysia two week expenditures...
Total: RM 115 per day average. That's $27 USD at the current exchange rate.
Lodging: RM 70 per night average, including RM 10 tourism fee. That's $16 USD per night. Many rooms were substandard; only two were an excellent value. Most rooms offered no paper products. Bidet nozzles were frequently missing, and sometimes the entire hose was missing as well. You're expected to splash dat ass with a pail and rub that greasy curry dingleberry all over your hand. If the listing doesn't specially mention a city view, you ain't gonna see daylight from your room. Many rooms had big empty spaces where a cabinet or desk should be. One room in a podunk village I booked for 22 fuckin' dollars had no air-con.
>"Sorry, air-con room 30 dollars. Book for air-con room and I refund you the budget room." Get the fuck out of here, I'm not paying you twice. Malaysian hotel owners don't give a fuck about upkeep. They'll even sell off the room furniture if they need cash and leave their guests with nothing but a bed. If it weren't for Agoda discounts, I'd be averaging $20/night on lodging, more than I pay in rent for my apartment in Colorado.
Food: RM 34 per day average, that's about seven fiddy. Same as everywhere else in Southeast Asia. In podunk Malaysia, nobody wants to cook a hot meal during the daytime. The lazy Muslim women just want to ladle some curry onto a plate of rice and go back to scrolling on their phone. After three tries today, I finally found a restaurant run by an old couple who cooked me something hot at 4:30 PM. Mee kungfu. It's delicious.
>>2778106You got filtered by Jakarta. It's not a city for the timid clueless NPC with no street sense. Bet you even used Google Maps to look for a place to eat while you were there. LOL, LMAO.
Just wanted to clarify. Malaysia is a pretty great country overall. Laying awake in 88 degree heat last night while getting bit up by mosquitoes was no fun, but I've had great random-encounter conversations with Malays in all of the ten places I've visited so far. Their friendliness is much more genuine than other Third Worlders. If you want to travel to a high-trust, low-crime society and chat with locals over a cup of teh O ais, Malaysia is a good choice of destination. Small towns are the friendliest, but some people struggle with English or refuse to speak it altogether.
The guy I was talking to at the market today, he came right out and said it in so many words. "You can buy, or not, whichever you want. Just because we're having a friendly chat doesn't mean you have to buy something." Evidently he was married to a white wife. Her sourdough panini with chicken salad was bomb, as was the cheesecake. The baked mac & cheese looked awesome as well.
$17 per night total gets a worn-out but spacious American-style room on the fifth floor of the Center Point Hotel in Kuala Lipis. No receptionist on site, you have to call the manager to arrange your check-in. Breddy gud deal
>>2779951this is true. But since you want to flex, can you tell me what i missed out on?
>>2779948>>2779957>>2780511Hey Slumdork! I read your brokie ass was in Malaysia from the other thread. Are there any trannies in Malaysia? Or was that story from some border town bus stop on the Thai side? You degenerate fuck.
If anyone is in Malaysia right now and happens to see a rapey looking JBH white dorkus carrying a piss jug...say hi and shake his hand. Thats our resident brokie.
Also, can you do us a favour and report back on the cooming situation in the country, especially in KL. Thanks!

as for crime, yes there is quite low street crime compared to some countries in the region but this is one of the most corrupt countries on the planet
>>2780540Bruh. Go watch some Youtube vlogs of the Jakarta slums at midnight.
>>2780541That tranny was in Malaysia, surprisingly. He had an average-sized set of tits and wore a lot of makeup. I bet none of the locals suspected him of being anything besides a weird old Chinese woman.
>>2781113The window bars protect the virginity of the daughters locked inside, kek. Rich people anywhere in the world don't like to be ogled by passing traffic when relaxing in their yard, that's why they put up privacy fences & walls. 46 US states have a higher rate of robberies than Malaysia; only the four whitest states are safer.
I agree that shoddy work and public funds being diverted to private pockets is a big problem here. Walking around you will see limitless examples of half-assed workmanship and chronic neglect. Malaysia is definitely not a First World country.
Overall I've been enjoying sober travels by train through rural eastern Malaysia. Visiting Terengganu by bus is next on the list. Main gripe, hotels pricier than I like to pay while also being inferior in quality to Thailand and Laos. High taxes, strong ringgit, and absentee owners who couldn't care less if their guests aren't 100% satisfied. I'd say rooms here are still better value on average than the Philippines, though there are outliers in both countries. Malaysian cities are MUCH less crowded and more civilized than Filipino cities by a long shot.
Six ginormous shrimp with kuey teow goreng at a restaurant in Kuala Krau village, Pahang. Menu price RM 10. Tons of eateries there with low prices and mostly empty tables. Attitudes aren't very pleasant. I bought some overripe dragonfruit from a reeking pajeet on the roadside for cheap and then tried to help a cat whose throat was severely wounded. The train had 5 passengers on board out of the 200 seats.
My expenses on this second Asia trip have been sizably lower than on the first trip, despite visiting far more places. Travel experience matters! This hotel in Bahau is the 99th place of lodging I've patronized since landing in Bangkok last October.
Three weeks' expenses, Kuala Lumpur and Melaka in 2024:
>Total: RM 3317
>Lodging: RM 1826
>Food: RM 1100
>Beer: RM 217
>Transit: RM 80
Three weeks' expenses, Kelantan and Pahang in 2025:
>Total: RM 2402
>Lodging: RM 1453
>Food: RM 732
>Beer: RM 0
>Transit: RM 71

>>2782679Well then, it's no surprise you and Jakarta didn't match.
Penang is absolutely overrun with dorkers and roasties, they say. Why be retarded like the Vietnam anon who goes to overrun cities only to rage about how overrun they are.
Ipoh and Cameron Highlands are geographically fascinating, but may have to be saved for next year at this rate. Terengganu and the east coast proper is next up on this trip, perhaps after a trip by train down to Johor Bahru followed by a little detour out to Tioman Island. In general I like the Islamist parts of Malaysia with very few white tourists. They are friendlier to me than the multicultural parts of the country.
Oh, and cheap Chinese food here sucks donkey balls. The quality is trash. Don't trust the pictures, they will skimp on ingredients to the max at the medan selera (food court). No nutrition, no veggies, and "flavor" that is nothing more than MSG-laden onions sauce derivatives. I've had enough. Gonna eat at Muslim places from here on out. Black-skinned pajeets cook better food than these goddamn Chinese.
>>2782707Bukit Bintang is full of scams and ripoffs targeting the herds of mutts from all over the world who go there hoping to have some fun. If you want a whore, the Chinese women of the night tend to stay on the move and solicit men in passing with a simple greeting. They try to keep it undercover for obvious reasons. Don't stay at a Muslim hotel if you want to bring a female back to your room.
>>2782724>Terengganu and the east coast proper is next up on this tripterengganu is a poor shithole inhabited by inbred medieval peasants

>>2777836>>2777836went here alone as a woman two weeks ago. I have never been so outnumbered by men in my life. Also the immigrant workers acted VERY with me
My only advice is not to arrive during the call to prayer - fucking airport taxis disappeared, ended up sharing with a bunch of strangers with a random non-Muslim cabbie
>>2783303>Also the immigrant workers acted VERY with meDamn, those jeets are so desperate they even chase trannies
>>2783286More like friendly greetings, sedate traffic which gives a pedestrian plenty of room, and nasi goreng kambing for RM 9 instead of RM 13. The hectic pace of life in the western corridor - even in a small city like Tampin - doesn't agree with me. Of course, the funneling of traffic onto a few major arteries makes it worse here than it has to be. The kampungs away from the highway are very peaceful, as is the primeval mountain forest.
>>2783303Don't give guys curious looks and then complain when they give you curious looks right back. Also don't go to the cheap lunchtime Muslim restaurants that are 100% male staffed. They are not intended for female diners, much less strong independent transwomen. There's plenty of places to eat that are staffed by Muslim women.
>>2783327>Don't give guys curious looks and then complain when they give you curious looks right back. that anon didn't say anything about giving anyone "curious looks". the banglas are lecherous cunts especially when they're drunk. which of course they are not supposed to do, being muslims, but they will take every opportunity. we had a bangla guy who came to our house to do some work in our kitchen and he stole a four pack i had in the fridge
>Also don't go to the cheap lunchtime Muslim restaurants that are 100% male staffed. They are not intended for female diners, much less strong independent transwomen. There's plenty of places to eat that are staffed by Muslim women.i can see that you already have the vicious muslim peasant mindset, you'll fit right in.
>>2783493Yeah, I prefer it when women are properly dressed and properly behaved. You can keep the liberal feminist abortion roasties and the obese empowered negresses.

>>2783550Make sure your room has a window.
Don't fall for a tinder dating scam.
Enjoy the diversity on the streets.
If you're cheap, take the bus to KL instead of the airport rail.
Try to hookup with a lonely roastie backpacker.
I have little desire to return to KL after seeing how great the rest of Malaysia is. Like picrel, my desires are simple and easily satisfied.

>>2784648> โmarketโ where you canโฆ.ummPlease explain nigga
>>2784643Sunscreen not necessary unless you're a pasty, pampered dorker (or redhead) unaccustomed to being out in the sun. Keep yer shirt on. It's not legally required, but walking around shirtless is trashy behavior and will get your shoulders burned. It's been sunnier than usual for the past few weeks. I did a nice hill climb in mid-afternoon today, had to change my clothes afterwards. If tough old Chinese grannies can do it, a fit young white man sure as hell can.
>>2784648There are a ton of food markets in KL
What people don't talk about much is that KL's food is great for vlogging about but overall is okay 9-10 times with it being down right trash at others. It's insanely cheap so anyone with a YT channel can basically try 100 dishes without breaking the bank and most places will do really good presentation. It's usually not bad unless you try but the health quality of it all is 50/50. Street food is often like "oh wow rats are right there..." or "damn those birds going to shit on the food trays?"
As was stated up in the thread, the best thing regarding KL is that it's cheap as hell, quality of life is decent, and that bodes well for anyone needing a Visa reset/DN break. Where it absolutely falls off the face of the recommendation list for me is that once you've "seen" X it's very hard to justify a revisit to the site
>>2777112 (OP)>Going to Cameron Highlands seems like a pain in the ass since the bus is 3 to 4h are there better alternatives? If you are going North its basically on the way? Also the train is way more comfy than the buses, get off at Ipoh and transfer to a coach for the highlands. At the very least if you catch a bus make sure it's the direct type, there's some that take like 8 hours from KL to Georgetown and others that do it in 4.
Note the KTM intercity trains sell out in advance basically all the time, try to book a week in advance.
>Better alternatives to Perhentian to dive? (not in Borneo)Tioman but it's also on the east coast and even more annoying to get to considering your other destinations.
On the west coat there's not the world class diving of Perhentians/Tioman but still some really good places. Palau Payer is a marine park, there's only 100 people allowed in per week, you have to go from Langkawi or Kuala Kedah port.
There's also good diving and snorkelling at Palau Pangkor which is simple to get to, not far from Ipoh and a quick trip from KL.
Melaka is nice but a fairly small town, you run out of things to do quickly. Nice dinner and a beer on the river is always good though.
Penang is great but maybe I'm biased. Got jungle and beaches right next to each other only 15 mins from the city
t. Angmoh working in Penang
>>2783303Sex ratio in Malaysia is something like 110, that's not including the few million illegal migrants who are mostly men. The Banglas will just stare at you for 5 mins and not think twice about it. There's plenty of places where I reckon it would be horrible to be a western woman. Even tourist places like Bukit Bintang feel like a massive sausage fest at night.
>>2782724>Penang is absolutely overrunWtf are you on about? The vast majority of tourists in Penang are Asian.
Seremban is the first M'sian city I've visited in four weeks of travel. Huge gender imbalance here, unlike the central and eastern regions. The bus to Port DICKson has only one female passenger.
>>2784916more than 5 white people sighted per day = overrun
>>2784955Nigga malaysians in general do not take bus because it's full of pajeets, bangladesh, or aliens.
But it's true though about the gender imbalance. Like the recent statistic shows that something like 110:100 in favour of man. Again, mostly due to aliens.
>>2784638>>2777836hahahah just admit you guys suck at attaining women. I was there on a 3 day business trip, with a day and an evening spare to myself:
I fucked 2 women (both just came straight to my hotels, 1 took an hour train ride, the other drove like 45 minutes), had an option for a 3rd but went clubbing instead, and went on a wholesome date with a Muslim girl who drove me around and fed me.
But to be fair I was probably the only Chad there, just walking around I could see Pajeets and the top echelon of incels from other nations - and i didn't pay a cent
Club Kyo was heaps of fun for clubbing, but mostly 18-22 year olds
>>2784679>I did a nice hill climb in mid-afternoon today, had to change my clothes afterwards. If tough old Chinese grannies can do it, a fit young white man sure as hell can.yes this is how actual "fit young white men" really talk
>>2784955>The bus to Port DICKson has only one female passenger.lone women only take buses in malaysia out of absolute necessity. harassment is commonplace. there are women only buses and trains for that reason.
>the best thing regarding KL is that it's cheap as hellyeah malaysia can be cheap if you want to live cheap. middle class and above (i.e. mostly chinese, and malays with government jobs) tend to stay away from cheap places most of the time. there are plenty of high end places too with prices to match (although still a bit cheaper than us/euro cities)
i for a fact know medan aint part of malaysia, but OP has to be specific on what they want to do in Medan. if you're specifically looking for orangutans, you gotta plan a trip to bukit lawang at langkat regency. can't say I've been there but just know that the usual tourist milking might be a thing as well over there, even though they're orangutan sanctuaries.
>>2785137The price of the cheapest high-rise suites in KL has gone from RM 120 to RM 180. Food prices have also gone up in the past year. A piece of chicken is now RM 5, and fresh fruit juice at some eateries is RM 7 per glass. This coupled with the strong ringgit means that KL is quite a bit pricier than it was in early 2024. The price spread in Bangkok is greater than in KL, i.e. you can find great rooms for cheap in outlying parts of Bangkok, but cheap rooms in KL are consistently shit.

Haven't seen any other whiteys here. Whites only travel to lame, expensive, overvisited places. Then they will try to tell you that there is no adventure left.
>>2785054I went to Kyo too and hated it. It looked so good in photos and from what the person I was with told me, but like you said it was mostly 18-22 year olds that ruined the vibe. Lots of Chinese faggots. They looked shocked to see a White guy there or something. The DJ was horrific, to my surprise, but it was a weekday, and there was no room. Pro tip: if you want to be around people older and with money go to the speakeasy bars in Damsara. Bring a girl with that you have chemistry with or it wont be fun.

Port dickson is an โovervisitedโ place
Itโs basically klโs seaside getaway. Thousands of kl-ers head there to spend the weekend in the big resorts like grand lexis and so on. Including expats. Iโve been there a few times myself. The actual town is pretty boring. Stay at one of the resorts next weekend youโll see plenty white people. Actually donโt bother, we stay at those places to get away from bitter little poorfags

>>2785516"Boring" is the best filter. Keeps out the excitement-chasing riffraff. The lack of traffic noise in the PD Waterfront City is lovely. Dine on RM 7 kuey teow goreng with carrot juice next to the harbor on a drizzly evening. There's no bitterness, only contempt for the timidity of modern tourists, their smarmy praise and nitpicking complaints equally out of touch.

some anons here are right, in the afternoon, most muslim malay restaurants wont do fresh-cooked meals. they only do these after 4pm but if u want fresh-cooked meals you can go indian-muslim ones, usually they used the "Nasi Kandar" or "Bistro".
if you want dating stuffs, like that anon said, beware of the scams.
the kamikaze drivers are usually chinese young women, drunk male indians, or old female malays. what you wanna becareful for tho is the motorcyclists, they expect you to take care of them, make way for them on the road... truckers here call them temporary citizens.
pls becareful around the banglas, nepalese, rohingyas, etc. when our politicians imported them, they only imported the males... these banglas want women, so if you have your woman with you, be extra protective. tell your women to not show too much skin. tell her to not go out alone.
a malay woman in Cyberjaya got raped by 4 banglas back then. a malay female student got groped in grocery store by banglas. etc. pls becareful. yes they're muslims but most are not practicing. what got imported are the undesirables from bangladesh...
Any good recs on cina dolls call-ins in Kl?
Some hooker lookin Chinese women operate out of the closed-door drinking establishments here along the highway in Segamat, Johor. A robust, mask-wearing tranny washes its clothes at the laundromat. My hotel room has a big lovely glass wall and nice furnishings, but the highway noise makes me glad I only booked one night. An epic T-storm with extreme lightning broke this afternoon after many days of dry conditions. I had to take cover in a restaurant.

>>2786742Yeah, of course. Years worth of glass bottles were piled up around the abandoned gatehouse. A local guy I met regularly collects the burnable shit and burns it, but the whole grounds are still strewn with trash from goddamn pigs who can't enjoy a waterfall without stuffing their face from a takeout container (and leaving the leftovers for the scraggly ass dogs).
I'm hoping to climb Gunung Ledang, the tallest peak in Johor. That'll be like 1100 meters of elevation gain. Numerous buses ply the highway between Segamat and Muar every day, so getting to Sagil (the trailhead town) is pretty easy. Sagil has some rental rooms and restaurants, so it might be worth an overnight stay.
The traffic noise in these cheap roadside rooms is driving me nuts with lack of sleep. Why can't Malaysians build their motels on quiet back streets or in residential neighborhoods like the Thais do?

The seafront park in Muar is top notch. No beaches here, rather a river mouth with a coastal band of mangrove forest. Lay down on the wooden platform and listen to the waves splash as the warm night breeze blows. The only background noise a distant muezzin. 31 years old today, and no richer than I was at 25. But I feel a whole lot more free.

Fucking taxi mafias, you know they're behind the bus terminal relocations. It's interesting how Malaysian cities, despite having excellent and plentiful bus service, never have a need to build a new bus terminal 6-10 km from the city center.

The night market in Pontian is one of the best I've encountered in Malaysia. Too many night markets in M'sia overcharge their vendors for a spot, excluding the poorer peoples from participating. That's not the case here; the government even provides many of the vendor pavilions. As a result, instead of RM 16 cheesecake slices and RM 9.90 lattes, there's a huge range of traditional Malay offerings in the RM 1-5 range, and the environment is more country fair than fashionable downtown market. I bought six tasty items and spent only RM 18.
Of course, there's also the usual restaurant stalls serving greasy meaty fare. It's enjoyable how uncrowded and relaxing the pace is. People call me "sir".

This is the entirety of the seating for a train station serving a city of 1.5 million, plus visitors from Singapore. 35 minutes til departure and they're still not letting us onto the platform. The inadequacy and incompetence of city planning here in Johor Bahru is so annoying. They can't even collect the fucking trash.
Kluang is a much nicer place with tons of great food and a decadent bakery I'm eager to revisit. Last trip I endured weeks of deep depression following a binge of some ketamine gifted me by lowlife friends in KL. This time I've embraced sobriety and mental stability, and Kluang seems so much more pleasant. One of the nicest small cities in Malaysia, desu.
Overpriced food is more prevalent in Malaysia than Thailand. Many restaurants want RM 15 for the most basic meals with hardly any real flavor besides grease, onions and chilli - plus the standard teh or kopi. Whereas last night I paid RM 12 for a much more generous mutton set meal with asam boi limau. Word is that greedy (Chinese) property owners squeeze tenants for rent and force them to jack up prices, even for Third World dining shack setups.
>>2790264>>2790469>>2791255>eating bargain bin meats in SEAFucking disgusting. I make omelettes at or ramen at home and then eat imported steaks at resturants on the weekends, well I did in Thailand. Staying in the Bangla neighborhood of Kuantan for a couple nights. Last year passing through here toward dusk I remember ladies of the night loitering on the streets and greeting me. Stir spooge with the jeet hordes, or no?
Bunch of fat sassy old women, they are. Yuck. Much better to explore deserted beaches accessible by hiking trails and skinny dip in the sea. Nobody is out here, despite it being a Saturday with perfect weather. Sunshine, a sea breeze, not too hot or humid. Only $0.45 USD to ride the city bus to Teluk Cempedak from downtown Kuantan. I haven't seen a single white person here. It blows my mind how many amazing places are passed over by the hivemind.
The boardwalk is all fucked up and supposedly closed, but like always, you can ignore the big red sign and walk where you want. It leads to an abandoned beach, then the hiking trail leads from the back side of the old restaurant/bathroom buildings through the forest to the next big beach. Inland are dozens of trails. So much unspoiled nature easily accessible from a city of 500,000. It's remarkable.

The cooks never wash their cookware. I'm getting tired of black burnt crumbs in every meal I order.
Cukai was worth two nights and Kerteh just one, but I got it reversed. Kerteh's beach park is much closer to town, while Kerteh is hemmed in by rivers. But Cukai is a soulful worn-out city, while Kerteh is a boring sterile sprawlville of new construction. My $20 room has a squat toilet and no sink, no chair, no desk or table. Northeast Malaysia...beautiful nature and bullshit rooms.
There's a new minibus route running along this stretch of coast that none of the locals even know about. They all tell me there's no bus lol. Great sweaty hike to a coastal waterfall yesterday. It was only a trickle, as I visited just ahead of a prolonged rainstorm. The local bus driver gave me a ride to and from the trailhead for RM 2.80 each way, but today when I tried to wave him down for a ride up to Paka, the fucker blew on past the bus stop without slowing down. Nobody on board. He thinks his job duty is to speed up and down the highway in an empty bus, forget the passengers. I tried to hitchhike, but nobody stopped for me. You blow your disability every month traveling, take out credit card debt, and then when you max out your ability to get loans you retreat to a van in the USA where you live on beans till the trickle of your tardbux lets you pay off your loans and cards enough to max them out again.
You're not fucking special. You're not a doctor or a lecturer. Your diseased mind fabricated a 'spy fantasy' like every other schizo (VERY common) dipshit in the world to help cope with your pitiful fucking reality.
I can't even tell you how common it is for paranoid schizophrenics to have a 'I'm actually a sniper/spy/commando/astronaut/doctor/theoretical physicist bullshit story. It's one of the hallmarks of the condition that they have this fantasy that they retreat into.
You do NOT lecture anybody about anything. You can't even hold an audience captivated on 4chan without everyone immediately dissolving into mockery and bickering as they argue about exactly what type of mentally ill you are.

Yep, you have a delusion of grandeur, an inability to self assess your self comparatively with others, you are simultaneously "lowly and humble" among peers (where you feel secure) and "superior and all knowing" among perceived intellectual threats (where you feel vulnerable), dualistic sense of self. Habitual lying. Schizotypal cluster B, garden variety.

I generally wear cotton or cotton-heavy blends. I've heard good things about linen and silk but haven't done any real research into it, nor do I know much about different fabric weaves and weights. in malaysia/singapore that means a football shirt- preferably an english premier league shirt since they are all obsessed with epl teams especially manchester united, chelsea, liverpool etc- or a shirt that you could wear to play badminton, as that is the only sport that malaysia has any kind of proficiency in
>>2795890>Is it normal to wear layers for sweat managementgood grief. layers? just wear a t shirt and shorts and flip flops like a normal person
for evenings just bring one or two lightweight long sleeve shirts and some light trousers and/or jeans. everywhere indoors is super air conditioned so it can be like sitting in a freezer if you're the sort of person that gets chilly easily
dude just buy some cheap clothes when you get here. practically every mall has a big open area where there are popup clothes markets selling cheap basic stuff. just remember that asian sizes tend to be smaller than us/euro types so if you are e.g. medium in us/euro then that will probably equate to xl in asia.
>>2795913>lol what on earth kind of shirt is that. It's a shirt for sportsmen who shoot and hunt. The reinforcement panels protect the shirt, help prevent the gun's buttstock from sliding on the shoulder, and offer some padding to mitigate the effects of a long weekend of heavy recoil.
>soccer>badmintonI don't want to signal that I'm interested in sports fandoms that I know nothing about.
>good grief. layers?Lately I've been wearing a cotton blend tshirt under a loose cotton button up. The loose shirt keeps the sun off my skin and the base shirt keeps the outer shirt largely free of sweat and prevents the sweat from causing the loose shirt to stick to my skin. If I'm working on something in the shade I'll take the sun shirt off or roll up the sleeves. I'm also used to layering in the woods because a durable outer layer protects from branches, thorns, and biting insects. I habitually wear boots and long pants in hot weather, though sometimes I'll wear shorts if I know I won't need to worry about thorns and biting insects.
>like a normal personI struggle with this, as evidenced by the fact that I'm asking 4chan how to dress.

>if you are e.g. medium in us/euro then that will probably equate to xl in asia.I usually wear a large-tall or extra-large in American shirt sizes. I don't anticipate having a lot of options over there and figure it's best to get mostly sorted out before I go.
>>2795930>biting insects.the mosquito is practically the national animal of malaysia so yeah if you're troubled by such things then cover up especially in the evening/dusk period when they are most active. we have dengue fever here- i had a mild case myself once (mild as in i wasn't hospitalised, i just spent a week or so lying on the bathroom floor moaning. it wasn't very much fun)- it's not really common but it pays to be sensible. or you could act like a british empire colonialist and stay in the highland areas where there aren't so many of the little fuckers flying around
>boots this would look a bit weird. i don't recall seeing any male wearing boots except construction workers (except maybe chelsea boots type of thing)
>I usually wear a large-tall or extra-large in American shirt sizes.ok then yes you might struggle a bit to find much of a choice. there are a few big-n-tall kind of shops around in cities (and online) but they aren't commonplace. same goes for footwear- i know someone in malaysia who does have freakishly large clown feet and it is practically impossible for him to find suitable shoes locally so a few times i have brought shoes over from the uk for him.
>>2795930Many Southeast Asian men wear two layers like you described. Personally IDC about sweat blotches showing through, and my farmer's tan is impervious to the sun, so I only wear one layer. Poland is not too pricey by European standards. Currently at $30.29 USD per day for prepaid lodging and transport, 14 out of 15 nights in private rooms. Some of them in very nice locations, like the historic center of Brodnica. I want to visit "boring" 100% White small towns and see how they compare to the places I've been in Southeast Asia...and America as well. >That sounds appealing. What are your experiences with and impressions of that region?there are a few highland areas around malaysia. the most famous ones are cameron highlands and genting highlands but there is also fraser's hill and a few others
the temperatures tend to be quite a bit cooler. malaysia generally has quite poor agriculture but the climate in cameron highlands means it is much easier to grow more different crops etc there. it is famous for its strawberries and tea plantations, both of which have also become tourist destinations.
for me the most interesting thing about cameron highlands is the endless amount of the beaten up looking land rovers that all the local farmers use for transport. pic related. they seem to compete to see who has the most shitty looking vehicle that actually still runs.
there are some cool old colonial era buildings etc, there is a restaurant/hotel called the smoke house which serves a pretty good afternoon tea
genting highlands is mainly famous for being the location of the only legal casino in malaysia. there are other things e.g. there is a concert theatre, golf course etc but most of the time people really go there for gambling. it is very popular with the local chinese.
the roads around the highlands areas are twisty and steep and accidents are common. just today a tour bus crashed in genting highlands

i was at an expo in kl recently and there was a malay woman there wearing a tudung and long sleeve top with jeans down about mid-calf, and pink high heels. outside of the crazy muslim areas people tend to wear whatever they want.
>>2796166It's fun to jot down expenditures and tally up the numbers at the end of the week.
>>2796181Even when the shoes do have laces, they remain tied. Lots of guys who wear sneakers step on the back of the shoes until they are squashed flat, so they can slip on and off easily. Everyone here scuffs their feet when walking too. Motorbike riders are the laziest. God forbid they have to park more than 5 meters from where they want to go.
>>2796169Populations of swifts, bats, nighthawks and dragonflies in many Malaysian towns keep the mosquito population strictly in check. It's surprisingly rare for me to get bitten while out and about in town here. They are somewhat more common in the forest, but even then, some forests are strangely devoid of mosquitoes (hundreds of bats flitting through the trees at dusk explains why). Dry-season Thailand was much worse for skeeters. I'd get attacked in crowded, smoky night markets and had mosquitoes follow me into my room on a regular basis.

And that's that. The end of my overland travels in Southeast Asia. Landed on October 24th, departing June 25th. 128 towns visited, 125 places of lodging patronized. In Malaysia, 40 hotels and 49 places visited over 67 days.
With a negligible amount of cash remaining, I've spent $1892 in Malaysia, $1124 in Laos, and $2678 in Thailand for a total of $5700 USD. For eight months, that comes out to $700 per month.
Ridiculous line for Air Arabia. No wonder the flight is always delayed. The staff work at a glacial pace.
