It's not about fanboying Vagrant, but he changed my view of travelling.

I can only enjoy real shit now.
I mostly go to non-touristic places in a country, avoid most tripadvisor spots, dress like shit, get a cheap hotel, go eat where the workers eat, get the police thinking you're a migrant, don't fight the jet lag, roam around all night.

It's also because i travelled with an annoying bitch before, so i've done all the tourist traps and all the photoshoots.
But it's the only enjoyable form of travel in 2025.

He really changed my perspective on travelling. I'm still a noob so not sleeping in the woods and all that yet, but I went to Cyprus a few weeks back and walked all the way from the airport to my hotel after landing. Shit was amazing, it was like 15km and there were lots of stuff to see on the way like the salt lakes, a famous oasis mosque, an old aqueduct, etc.
I've done the rest of the trip with buses and seen all the major cities. Getting around and finding solutions is part of the fun, if I'd have rented a car it wouldn't be like that. I focused mainly on the tourist attractions but I also did a weekend up in the Troodos Mountains and hiked Mount Olympus, so overall it was a pretty based adventure. You have to start somewhere. I want to go to Greece soon and maybe try it on hardmode this time.
That being said, you don't have to go full retard like him and avoid restaurants and brothels and all that. I think part of the fun in travelling is tasting the local cuisine and women, just have to find good places with normal prices.

Walking out of airports is based.
There's so much you can discover on foot that you'd never notice at highway speeds while taking a taxi to the city center. Letting local geography guide you instead of checking off the list of "top 10 things to do in X" opens the doors to adventure everywhere you go. The only catch is, you'll be doing it alone because every adventurer wants to go his own way.

doing a trail of stealth camping currently. set up is unoptimal so ive fucked my knee trying to be big guy and just carry my shit always with me instead of stashing. still good to learn though, couldnt get comfortable in some wooded area waiting for my airbnb (aka train to come in 6 hours) but i realized u could pay 1 euro and just sleep in the bathroom

traveling and staying at hotels (due to said injury) is making me wanna kill myself. i hate the way these people look at me.

I am so blessed that my mum realised this was the way to do it after she travelled for a couple years in her 20s. She despises anything touristic and my dad makes a fuck ton of money so growing up we travelled multiple times a year, going to local markets, eating at the restaurant the taxi driver likes to eat, buying whatever street food looks good without worrying about getting sick. My dad is also a hyper-autist with an eidetic memory who can read a phrasebook cover to cover and then speak the language pretty much fluently without needing to practice. So we were never limited by language barriers when it came to where we could go and what we could do.
It was the best fucking childhood but the issue is that I essentially cannot travel with normies because tourist-trap photo op spots, shitty tours to artificial sites of "interests", overpriced food with english menus, and junky souvenir markets- all of those things fill me with sperg rage and disgust.

It's fascinating on some level that someone would spend hundreds of bucks to go to some other country to eats hummus, wash in McDonalds bathrooms and sleep in public parks. Is that really the real traveler cultural experience?

Part of me admires him for showing how the idea of travel can be accessible to anyone.

But I say "the idea" because he ends up missing out on most of the top unique and interesting things about travel because he's such a cheap fuck. Won't pay for museum fees, eats fucking canned food shit, sleeps in a shrub, and does the same sort of shit experiences you can have just about anywhere. Like others have already mentioned in the thread, I agree with his 'go off the beaten path' philosophy. I have most fun traveling when not making plans, avoiding tourist tailored places, roaming around questionable places, and talking with locals, but sleeping in a fucking public bathroom is still too autistic for me. Unless you think laying on a piss stained floor adds to the adventure.
