Southeast Asia has been absolutely awful ever since COVID ended. I've been traveling to Southeast Asia and even living there on and off again since 2015. Had a girlfriend and even at one point considered going all in on buying a condo in Bangkok and purchasing an Elite Visa for Thailand back in 2019. Have also spent long periods of time in Vietnam and Indonesia. Thailand and Vietnam are what I'm most familiar with. Here's the run down on at least why Thailand is an awful place to live and even visit in the post-COVID era/2025:
>taxes on foreign earned income when staying in the country for over 6 months. Even if you have to pay no taxes, you now still have to deal with paperwork every year and potential fear of audits from the Thailand Revenue Department.
>prices have skyrocketed from inflation since COVID ended, you are now paying borderline European prices for a third world experience
>(no, still being "cheaper than the US" in not an excuse for value, everywhere is cheaper than the US these days- Japan was literally cheaper than Thailand back when I visited both)
>women, especially Zoomers, no longer like or desire Western men anymore, they are all into Korean/K-Slop trash
>blacks, redditor digital nomads, upper middle class liberal white women, degnerate weed smokers (Thailand legalized weed after COVID) and IRL streamers fucking everywhere, where as before there used to be none. The whole country feels like you are in the Bay Area California for all the wrong reasons.
>Mandated 90 day check-ins with your local immigration office, no matter the visa
>To start a business in Thailand, you can only own 49% of the business, the other 51% majority must be owned by a local Thai
>literal DEI hire, NEPO baby, Millennial woman, WEF Prime Minister- this is the direction the country is headed in culturally/politically
You guys are way too late to the party. Southeast Asia peaked in the 2010's, they're on their "progressive Obama era 2012" arc now.
