They're begging for people to apply for their "Settlement Application" so they can take your money and reject all applications.
It's a complete scam, they don't want anyone moving there, especially after what happened last time they had a new comer.

>Is there any country left where locals get happy when tourist arrives?
literally anywhere without mass tourism

being white or local ethnicity also helps

most people in the world obviously only dislike tourism once it (seemingly) negatively affects them personally
and be it just for annoying crowds you have to walk through

so most smaller cities or rural areas in any country are actually happy about the occasional tourist
they bring money and it's to know that people like your hometown
even in the countries like France, Spain, the USA or Italy this hold true

i'm surprised that this even is a discussion on /trv/
many here like to travel to odd places with few tourists
and typically the experience with locals will be really positive

I went looking for this and all I found was 1/3rd of the island's male population being charged at the same time with sexual assault, including the Mayor.
Seems a tad rapey.
Other than that, why wouldn't they welcome you? They've been inbreeding for centuries.

anywhere in east africa basically
they had a safari/tourism boom in the 90's early 00's and became accustomed to whitebux, but then the whitebux got turned off

if you show up in kenya in nairobi or mombasa you will be greated with endless smiles and open legs, but of course this comes with the responsibility to actually act like a king and disseminate wealth as you travel about

>countries impressed by foreigners
Keep in mind that I'm white
1. Unironically India. People wanted my picture and everyone wanted to know my thoughts on India. I was too shy to tell them their country is a shithole so I just said bullshited them. Felt like 2010 China (except much poorer and dirtier). Very easy to make friends and date.
2. Africa. Similar to India. Ironically it's less of a shithole and much cleaner. Extremely easy to date.
3. Small town China. Most of the big cities don't care for foreigners anymore but the small towns still do. Rarely get any pictures like before (i guess they've all seen a foreigner now) but people are open to talking with me.

Korea, mexico and South East Asia didn't give two shits about me.

I found people in both Bolivia and Peru very welcoming in general (although rural Bolivians are sometimes reserved to the point of near silence, it never came across as hostile or jaded). And whatever tourist fatigue plagues resort/beach areas, I have encountered no shortage of genuine friendliness and warmth in many parts of both Greece and Italy (especially Sicily, but YMMV). I think that even in real tourist traps one can sometimes feel the ‘love’ part of the all-too-common love-hate relationship jaded hospitality people have with those foreign tourist assholes whose money they depend upon.

Otherwise, I guess I mostly agree with above posters that a lot of less-touristed places are often very welcoming to visitors. There are noticeable exceptions—out-of-the-way parts of Russia are certainly going to be surprised to see you, but people are more likely in my experience to be suspicious (or even hostile) than welcoming—I think one has to speak Russian and spend some time drinking with people to encounter anything resembling warmth there. I once spent a few hours with some working-class strangers in Siberia that I thought might end in their beating the shit out of me, but things got close to friendly by the time we’d started in on the second carafe of vodka. My Russian is really, really limited, but I was told as we were parting ways that my only problem was my mediocre pronunciation, and also that they decided they liked me despite my being American because I’d been willing to drink with them. I imagine that a more fluent Russian speaker could pull off something similar, with more sophisticated people, just by drinking tea.

I’ve never been to India, but can say that people in large parts of Pakistan are extraordinarily welcoming and hospitable to visitors. They can sometimes be a little overbearing, and tribal/restive areas are undeniably home to at least some people who would rather murder rather than feed a passing Westerner, but the great majority of the population, all over the country, is really kind and generous, and happy to see foreign tourists. My parents lived in Islamabad for a year, years ago now, and a tour guide who showed us around Lahore for one day became a close family friend with whom we are all still in touch. If the security situation in Pak hadn’t been going through one of its many shitty patches at the time, we would all have attended his daughter (who was a baby when we met him)’s wedding. The former tour guide lives in the USA now, and is still trying to fix my older brother up with a Pakistani Christian wife.

Ehem... dont go there.

On 30 September 2004, seven male residents of Pitcairn, about one-third of the male population, and six others living abroad, were tried on 55 sex-related offences. Among the accused was Steve Christian, Pitcairn's Mayor, who faced several charges of rape, indecent assault, and child abuse.[44] On 25 October 2004, six men were convicted, including Steve Christian. A seventh, the island's former Magistrate Jay Warren, was acquitted.[45][46][47] In 2004, the islanders surrendered about 20 firearms ahead of the sexual assault trials.[48]

After the six men lost their final appeal, the British government set up a prison on the island at Bob's Valley.[49][50] The men began serving their sentences in late 2006. By 2010, all had served their sentences or been granted home detention status.[51]

In 2010, mayor Mike Warren was charged with 25 counts of possessing child pornography on his computer.[52][53] In 2016, Warren was found guilty of downloading more than 1,000 images and videos of child sexual abuse. Warren began downloading the images some time after the 2004 sexual assault convictions. During the time he downloaded the images, he was working in child protection. Warren was also convicted of engaging in a "sex chat" with someone he believed was a 15-year-old girl.[54]

Kazakhstan was fun and people were friendly. The older people were curious and friendly. But to shy to talk. They only spoke Russian, and Kazakh. Blending in is impossible even when white, you don't look like the locals, and you don't look like typical Russians, you stand out. The style is different over there.

I'm not Russian, but I have a good grasp. When you start speaking it, all of a sudden older people get very interested and friendly. Younger people speak English at a basic level. They may come up to you and ask you simple questions for practice or general curiosity. Generally I would say anyone currently younger than 18 speaks a bit of English there.

Last thing I will say. The tourism industry is not to well geared to western travelers. Hotels and restaurants mostly deal in Russian. Sometimes people don't speak English, sometimes menu's are only in Cyrillic. I only had 2 or 3 restaurants where there was English in the menu. So in my opinion Kazakhstan is some what hard mode travel. But good friendly people!

I think Bhutan because they have a limit on visitors each year and a few per day to be there, so they aren't burdened and benefit from it and probably get respectful people who go through the trouble to get there.

North Korea because same thing, only can visit on tours so they give you the experience they want you to have, and anyone who acts up gets taken care of and it's known so no influencer fuckery.

Probably any remote villages in Asia because they would wonder how you got there and why and probably feed you something.

Hospitality culture isn't a thing in rural Asia, except in touristy areas. If there are no restaurants, you may have a tough time filling your belly, especially in poor areas. Food is scarce in middle of nowhere Laos, for example. Villagers often seem ashamed of having nothing to offer a visitor, not even a chair - everyone sits in the dirt.

Recently I stayed in a remote village on Mekong in northwestern Lao (19.8330747, 100.7092415), with no hotel. I was with a friend but he had his leg broken and could only walk on crutches. Most buildings were made of wood, there was a 4 year old kid smoking a cigarette. Chickens and ducks running around but a weak E signal (with 0 effective speed on my phone), from a cell tower somewhere very far away and a couple of Honda Wave scooters reminded us of civilization.
The owner of the house asked $50 for one night, we reduced it to $10 and negotiated a duck to be slaughtered and cooked for breakfast for extra $15. Such price was at least twice as high as the common price in that region.
The man kept his word and roasted the duck next day, however it was too dry. As the number of remaining chopped pieces of the duck went down it became obvious to us that the breast was absent from the plate. At first this caused some confusion, I checked the duck blood sauce because there was some meat in it but clearly it was pork and not duck breast. My friend was also certain it was pork because yesterday we had a stir fried pork dish with exactly the same meat in it. I stood up and, ripped my shirt open on the chest, pointing with the knife at my breasts and then gesticulating as if I was looking for something but could not find it. This produced the desired effect and the man brought half of the breast and a translated message “another half is in the sauce”. Fighting was impractical because it would have taken my friend at least 20 minutes to descend to the river and board our boat. We got the remaining pieces of the incomplete duck in a plastic bag, boarded the boat and went downstream.
I must say all other villagers except that man were very kind to us with a group of boys carrying our luggage in an out of the boat, young girls smiling and old people being significantly less hostile to us than the old people in any urban city in Vietnam.

Iran, Albania, Kurdish Turkey were all places where people seemed universally happy to see a white skinned tourist. This was 10 years ago though. Also any small village in central and eastern Europe people seem happy that you came to see their tiny village where nobody ever goes. As a general rule the more off the beaten track you are the friendlier people are to see tourists.

They're definitely more honest on the Thai side. Yet when you post on r/Laos that you got overcharged, everyone downvotes you, denies that overcharging ever happens in Laos, and shames you for not wanting to pay triple price because muh poverty guilt. kek
I had to hitch a ride with a local out of Paktha after being told there was no bus service to Houayxay. He tried to charge me 300K or $17 for a 45 km ride in the back of a pickup truck that left me covered in dust. I offered 70K, which happened to be the actual fare for the trip, and he accepted it unhappily.

I still want to go back and explore more of the country next winter, likely from the Vietnam side this time.

Internet grifters and influencers are to blame for the mood souring. They poured in when the country was dirt cheap in 2022-23 because of the crisis, singing it praises but when the economic situation improved many of them begun to make videos bitching that the country was expensive and not worth it. OK bro, this is Buenos Aires, it was always a mid to high end destination (for Latin America), it's not Asuncion or Medellin you couldn't possibly expect the country to remain dirt cheap forever it was a temporary situation. And you should be happy people are making more money and the country averted total collapse, not bitch about how it's suddenly more expensive for you.

So these geomaxxing types kinda soured the mood because people begun to see them as just cheapskates attracted by low prices and what they thought were easy women (kek argentinas are crazy little princesses good luck with that) and not people actually interested in the country. Some of them expats are cool tho, I don't want to generalize.

You can expect to be treated nicely but yeah the honeymoon phase with the sudden tourist influx is over. Both because it got more expensive and because of what I wrote above.
