You might think you're cool and quirky, and that you're the centre of attention everywhere you go, but please think of the locals who have to pay higher rent prices because you showed up. Thank you.

>be digital nomad
>show up to place
>book hotel or hostel private room
>if anyone asks me what I am doing tell them I am taking a gap year between jobs and had a bunch of cash saved up from the lockdowns
>tell people doing the bucket list items while I can still enjoy it before settling down
>have some BS itinerary if anyone actually gets nosy of things I sort of want to do
>literally never mention anything regarding work

I never get why Digital Nomads are loud about it, the ones you meet bragging about it are often in a slow spiral downwards in their mental state or funds with some BS customer service style job for 18/hr who basically blow it all each weekend.

>muh driving up rent prices
Yeah this doesn't work because if it was such an issue, citizens should go vote to ban or heavily tax Airbnb style places in the city or limit them such like Kyoto and other cities have done. Alternatively, would implement like most countries are doing and offer Digital Nomad visa's. There wow you're just like a local now!

That sign just sounds like some English teacher who now isn't the special one of few white guys in the area and is having trouble with women. I meet those "people" in asia a fair bit and they are always fucking desperate to get out of teaching any way possible but will never stop seething about remote tech workers.

Yeah if you're going to be a digital nomad (legal gray area) than do it well and keep it on the down low. No sympathy for people like those German girls who got caught in Hawaii, voluntarily entered ICE detention over night to catch a flight to a different country to their origin, then cried about it on reddit

Just shows how personal income tax is kinda dumb today. Our work isn't really attached to a geographic location anymore.

It'd be best to get as much of our revenue as possible from Land Value Tax. Land is very much attached to a geographic location, so no gray area.

Not just the locals, but also other long term expats and repeat visitor long stay tourists who had been in these countries for years and assimilated to the country's culture and the local currency/prices. Nobody likes digital nomad scum, they bring their garbage western culture and overpriced slop consoomerism and prices to whatever countries they move to and force even other Westerners who had been there forever to leave. The end result is these people just turn whatever location within the country they moved to into some reddit hive mind cancer that resembles some slop shithole like the Bay Area and completely killing the unique social eco system that took decades to carefully develop within those communities. Any country that offers a "Digital Nomad Visa" or any other adjacent sort of visas is instantly put on my black list now. Fuck these people.

Reporting them to their home country's tax revenue department is retarded, they are most likely already paying their home country's taxes and are in full compliance back at home as their taxes are just automatically taken out of their paychecks as regular W2 wage workers. If you want to fuck with them you report them to the local country's (the country that they are currently in) immigration agency and tax revenue department... the officials would very much like to know what visa they have to be doing such long stays while earning an income: you can't legally work/earn an income in pretty much any country on a simple tourist visa, they might overstaying their tourist visa with such long drawn out trips and could be legally deported, and if they are earning an income while in the country (especially if they have stayed over 180 days) they could be liable to local taxes to the country's tax revenue department. Also worth noting you can report them to their company if you find out who they work for- a lot of these guys are breaking company TOS by working remotely outside of their company's immediate geographic areas or out of the country by using a VPN- and get them fired or at least forced to move back home. Another trick with regards to American digital nomads is to find out what state they are a resident of (ask in polite conversation or take a sneak peak of their drivers license/id) and, if their state has a state income tax (eg California or South Carolina, etc) report them to their resident state tax department for possibly not being compliant with state income taxes- a lot of digital nomads are dumb as fuck with their tax set up and forget to change state residencies from income tax states to non-income tax states like Florida or Texas (especially the cancerous libtard reddit types who are scared of muh red states) and many I imagine might be owing tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of dollars to their resident state tax department.

>a foreign country has no legal means to prove that the digital nofag is actively making money

Immigration officials question, detain, interrogate and investigate people all the time in their country for too many long term tourist/non-work related visas, too many entries into the country within a given year (eg visa runs) and maxing out too many long-stay tourist visas. Someone is probably being interrogated over this RIGHT NOW in Southeast Asia. An anonymous tip, especially in digital nomad heavy destinations like Southeast Asia or Latin America, will most definitely trigger a knock at the door from immigration officials and perhaps even the local tax revenue department.

>no first world country is going to give a shit where the expat is getting paid so long as they're still paying their taxes

Good job proving your illiteracy, retard. I literally said this right in my first sentence. The problem is retards like you, while compliant with Federal taxes, often forget to set up your state residency in a non-income tax state before going overseas and then forget to pay your state income taxes to your resident state when digital nomading. State tax revenue departments will definitely come looking for their cut if you are not compliant, with late fees, penalties and interest accumulating with each passing day past the filing date of the year you are not compliant. A lot of you also have no real estate of your own, which means that for (legally required) state residency purposes such as for bank accounts, mail, passports, insurance, etc you are using your parent's or relative's address, and if that address is in an income tax state and you aren't paying those state taxes, that state will come looking, and some of these states are notoriously aggressive with pursuing these state income taxes, some times years down the line after the above mentioned penalties have had time to aggressively accrue and compound.

Digital nomad visas should be tied to special bank accounts where you can only stay a year max, get transaction taxed, and must have a certain flow of money each month to keep the visa active.

The taxes raised should be ringfenced and go towards offsetting the negatives which digital nomads bring. If the negatives are high, the transaction taxes go up.

Way to not see the forest from the trees. The issue with both too many third world immigrants in the US and digital blowfags gentrifying local communities overseas is the same exact cancer: American soiboi liberal/leftist redditor trash. Their low IQ understanding of politics and economics are responsible for both problems, and they deserve the consequences both at home and overseas for the problems they cause wherever this plague of cancer goes. Your duty is to shame and chase these people out wherever they go. How many of these are digital nomads exactly? How many of them are dual citizens who would consider themselves Mexicans?

Regardless, 700,000 rich people investing in your economy should be a good thing and an opportunity to accelerate economic growth. If housing supply is unable to keep up with demand, there is something wrong and the cause of underbuilding needs to be fixed. CDMX leaders don't seriously want to fix the underbuilding causes, which is why they passed rent control- which is proven to make housing situation worse. They need to pass regulations that make building more housing possible.

There is no "proof of work done in X place" on tax forms just your known address the IRS can contact you at and your employer providing the address you gave them.

> you just sign a contract with fake info and that's all good?
Lmao no, you will have to provide real information generally they will mail you some physical stuff often benefits stuff and basic tax info to ensure that. Without a SSN/valid address you're not getting too far, lots of this is usually done with a quick and easy credit check.

Come to Japan, Korea, or some of the non ultra-poorfag coomer spots. I can usually find 2-3 per stay of people doing that shit and bragging about it. I rent hostel private rooms usually for the utilities, features onsite (laundry, full kitchen, room service cleaning, etc), and common room to chill/socialize in for days I don't feel like going out too much. CBP is really just looking to make sure you're within the lines, if you tell them no you aren't DN'ing then they really have no way to prove you are. They basically have to catch you in the act of performing work which unless you're at the police station working bragging to them about it, ain't going to turn anyone's head.

I mean if you have rich parents who own a house why do you even have to work then? Why not just mooch off them and then sell the house when you inherit and you're good for life?

Not why I do, personally I own a cheap ass 450/mo studio in the midwest that secures all my shit+VPN server+remote lab. ~6k/yr is nothing for keeping all my shit secured as well as ensuring I have my own server and VPN setup rolling, but my friends do something like:
>pay coworker $xxx for a year bucks to say I live with him
>hold my mail, have my remote PC box powered at his house, use the VPN service I have set up
>Okay
>yeah I live at 16th ave Lubbock Tx... yup still here

You get a job before you go overseas dumbass no one is going to be hiring you unless your SSS+ tier while living abroad and you tell them that. I never understand why 4chan anons have to explain things to people when not asked. Are you one of those people who really goes off telling everyone everything you did to get dressed that morning, how the drive in to the office was, and 10 other boomer type things no one gives a fuck about? If so digital nomad might not be for you.

>>2792907
You know employers aren't checking to see if you still live there, right? They don't come knocking at the door going OI ANON U IN THERE I WANT TO MAKE SURE UR NOT IN THAILAND LAD!!! If I wanted to, I could just use my last apartment address, "forget" to update it with HR, then set all important mail items to a PO box for important shit like tax 1040, or like most all companies in the US offer is to go paperless. No one fucking cares as long as you don't go blabbering about it to everyone and the Karen's in HR. I'd still pay local state and federal taxes and no one gives a fuck because no one here in this thread makes enough for anyone to bother double checking things.

>Get cushy 100k/yr min. job
>fly out to thailand 1 attosecond after getting hired
>file FEIE 2555 via chat gpt while getting to the plane
>pay 300 dollars a month for a classy studio on the beach (gave the manager a firm handshake and looked them in the eye! for a good price)
>fuck bitches all day on the beach while sipping mai tai's
>walk in drunk to my gaymin laptop
>Anon are you working "yes massa I be working!"
>great! keep up the hard work
>fuck one more local before passing out
What it is
>work job that is already WFH
>maybe ask your boss if they care where you work if you are on good terms with them
>go buy prosumer router that offers wiregaurd
>install it on all devices with failsafe mode on for traffic funneling
>buy optiplex and set it up as a RDP PC to work with as a backup
>travel to some place ensuring good internet and quiet walls
>act like a tourist
>probably work nights in X location(depending on timezone) then go out in the day for whatever
>all work is basically as it was back home just in X place now
>realize your fridays nights now suck because of timezone differences
>rinse and repeat for the 30/60/90 days in said country before hopping

Never understand why /trv/ assumes people here are some 007 bond type adventurer who is dodging taxes worst than bossmanjack on his gamble winnings.

I got tired of KL after a while, it's a bit boring, was living in Mt Kiara which is a nice little enclave but don't think much of the rest of the city. Mostly Bangkok, HCMC, Da Nang and Penang now.
Have a home base on a yearly lease, huge apartment, 33rd floor, right next to the beach, spend maybe 6 months of the year there and rent it on airbnb the rest of the time. Have a local lass clean and admin it.

Thinking of getting out of SEA for a bit, want to do China, my work are cool with it but not sure if it will fuckup due to the Great Firewall and we're all in on Google/MS services, so might have to take some time off instead.
Also been looking at the Taiwan nomad visa, seems like a decent deal, would have to visit Taipei first to check it out and see if works for me

Mostly dating apps for locals, have met some fun lasses through coworking and local nomad/expat groups, western women staying in Asia are usually pretty good, not so uppity haha. But can be hard to make it work with people always coming and going.

Digital Nomads are just easy targets for hatred. These guys are nomads and you can tell but at least 80% of their videos are in the USA.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlK11Xk3yHI

Only because I watch them because my mom likes me too I get familiar with them enough to get the hatred of digital nomads.

Based on these guys the hatred its probably:
>White husband and wife not having any kids well into their late 30s pretty sure the guy is like 39 or something, you just know they eat like a king and have sex all the time on birth control why shouldn't they also cum hard a lot fuck it makes me jealous.
>Always bragging on both having website design jobs and money from social media
>Also really frugal and walks around saying daaang can I afford to do that...imagine going to Spain and saying I am doing hostiles to save money or I can't do this or that BUT I eat 130 dollar dinner with 10 dollar morning latte
>Never needs to eat fast food and only eats at the most Yelp Approved restaurants - now imagine that attitude in Spain where LOCALS would very much enjoy hitting the decent restaurants but the internet allows tourists to gangrape all the good ones making big lines
>Everything is a conversation about food or travel
>Every day is spent in maximum sensory overload best food, best views, move their RV to get the best views, their job allows them to do this and it makes you really jealous
>They would bitch up a storm if they were forced to work at an office - wonder why
>Use guides to have a mix of maximum comfort and safety and still reach their idea of maximum authenticity too (we slept in a tent in the fucking Australian DESERT man!!!)
>Nothing ever bothers them that much and they never curse or swear they find the new piece for their RV and keep on truckin, its probably like that a lot with digital nomads they might have a setback but internet is so connected and you can do anything with money especially in the third world the good times rarely ever end

I should've done this video sorry

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3KuF1on19Hc&t=5s

That one was okay but this one gets at to what I am saying more. They went to Guatemala and they got to do this guided tour of a cave with like 30 other influencers. Like, its so gay to go into a really scary place that should be death defying maybe nearly and make it trivialized by guides. So you feel like a badass just enough but know if you just keep gripping that rope you'll be back to eating at fancy Guatamalans restaurants. They have this insane Air B&B. Also Air B&B... jesus fucking christ bro... that its like how can we make travel even more easy and fucking ridiculous. Lets rent some dudes house with pool and big king sized bed.

They spend all the rest of the day laying around in inner tubes. Keep in mind all this they even get to be praised by becoming F List celebrities getting 40K average a video...

OK sorry I got way too far with this intense rant but I just wanted to be understood sorry. Peace.

Literally no where. No farang or gringo is moving into the shanties where the locals are effected. At worst, developers byy put city blocks of shanties and demolish them for apartments that tourists and expats rent which is good for anyone willing to service them which apparently the shanty dwellers aren't. Even the construction process brings money in.

False. And if that's you're argument the people bitching are already from the shanties and doing nothing to change their place in life.

Mexico City is a prime example and I'd imagine geetawr Catalonia is too. Couple of neighborhoods go from bombed out crack dens to apartments and short term rentals for the regional middle class, only slightly more expensive on tourist booking sites than through Facebook or rental agencies (this no bullshit price gouging akin to San Diego)... But somehow the people who are middle class or living short term are to blame.

Face it, these people are just poor, angry, last, and stupid.

Most of the world is full of normie betacucks who didn't learn anything at school. How should I feel sorry for a 20-something zoomzoom who has a a attention span of a goldfish? Rent too high? Maybe leave the city and work on a latifundium picking grapes and tomatoes like the slave you really are.

Basically this, it's a non-issue. been working in poor, middle and rich countries, no reasonable local really gives a shit apart from people in rich countries wanting your help to get the same.
FT fully remote worldwide without having to lie about it is the gold standard and becomes easy to forget how good it is until someone gets jealous.

The town I grew up in in coastal New England is unrecognizable post-airbnb, and that's in spite of all the pushback that locals could be expected to give. Try applying your "lol if it's bad people wouldn't allow it" naivete to any other scenario where a few people can extract wealth at the expense of the many.

The stock market is pure evil (not by design, but by how it's panned out). I actively avoid publicly listed companies whenever possible.

When middlemen MBA types get their grubby hands on a business, all they know how to do is extract, extract and extract.

American multinationals arrive, suck up soul, resources, craft, and everything in between, then enforce it with armies of lawyers and diplomats.
The sooner this empire dies, the better. If they sacked off the mass surveillance shit, China would be so far preferable to America it's not even funny.

World finance moved from London to New York. If it moves to Beijing your situation isn't going to improve. China isn't known for shying away from the "extract, extract and extract" mentality so there's nothing reasonable to suggest that they would keep this ancient beast in check.

What's so bad about patronzing a city regularly? Isn't that the point? It's all a bunch of twenty-somethings in apartments-that-used-to-be-houses and old people hanging onto their investments.

I'm the only real middle class that exists, because I can afford to leave. Lol

There are some remote positions in digital marketing, mostly managing social media accounts.
Once you land a job, just booked the cheapest flight possible, find a hotel/airbnb, a cafe to work from and you can already call yourself a digital nomad

I have tried living in a dozen different โ€œemergingโ€ economies as a digital nomad and it just isnโ€™t worth it once you grow tired of the cheap, brown pussy. The living standard is so low that you simply have to do without a lot of things we take for granted. And honestly, it is even more expensive to recreate that higher living standard here. It is genuinely better to just find a place back home. Iโ€™m actually slumming and grinding hard for a year so I can bank a half a million USD to buy a house and land to relocate back to the US.

An economic refugee and an expat are different though

Economic refugees are poor and ugly and brown. They typically cost their host country more than they provide in tax revenue.

Expats are generally White or East Asian. In some cases, they are White-passing Latinos (see: wealthy South Americans in Miami). They come with either
1. A high net worth, or
2. A very high-paying job.

More often than not they're only in the country temporarily, ie for a work assignment or spending time at a pied-a-terre

On second thought, you are right, and actually, expats are way worse. If you they have a high income then they have nothing to worry about, they can live comfy wherever they are from and stay there, while we start taking care of the kikes who are making business with this shit.
