Im trying to decide where to go for July and August and also deciding if I want more of an adventure or to just chill
So far im thinking a bike tour in Europe. But also wondering about just finding a town with cheap campsites and stay there for weeks and go on bike rides and chill. But im also considering going to the Balkans or Asia or something

Id prefer to not spend too much $
Anyone got any other comfy ideas for some summer trips?

>July and August in Europe.
>cheap campsites and stay there for weeks
yeah, ain't gonna happen
that's high season literally everywhere touristy near oceans in Europe

>Balkans
if you avoid Croatia and Greece you might be able to do a low budget tour

if you already got a bit of equipment you could also do wild camping
obv check legality before and plan accordingly

>Anyone got any other comfy ideas for some summer trips?
if you like hiking / climbing / mountain biking
check the alps
most ski towns are quite affordable during summer (don't expect super low budget though)

This. You often get really good deals in those ski areas even in Switzerland. Most will include free local public transport, free use of the mountain cables/railways and free entry to the pools.
Bonuspoints in August you get a large number of festivals in those areas.

>good deals in those ski areas even in Switzerland
personally I'd avoid Switzerland
just go to the Austrian part of the Alps, it's just as picturesque, well developed (a little worse train infrastructure though) and people are way nicer
but you'll pay half for your food

>Most will include free local public transport, free use of the mountain cables/railways and free entry to the pools
that's dependent on the local municipality
you'll find these deals in Austria, France, Italy, Slovenia and Germany as well

also can recommend doing something like E5 if you like hiking
the multi day routes are really low key compared to other parts of the world as the huts offer food and you don't need to carry a tent

Im more of a bicycle tourer/enjoyer than a hiking enjoyer. Yeah i have done plently of wild camping on tours. But was thinking it would be nice to pay for a site so I can leave my gear while I piss off around town
But I will consider the ski town idea for chilling and exploring and some small hikes.
I happily pay to dine out or for good beer, but i hate paying more than $50'for lodging. Maybe I should just get used to paying $$ for comfy space and a shower and all that
Like my last few trips have been to Poland and paying for $25-$40 ok hotels close to city centers (wroclaw mostly)

Or like when I went to vietnam it was so nice to pay $15 for a comfy ass hotel and book it in person last minute (well everythings cheap there)

But what Im also tryin to say is i enjoy last minute planning for lodging and then getting a room for a week or 2 and just chilling around town and listening to music alone in my room

Then you might enjoy a bike tour without a fixed schedule like going from Salzburg via Villach, Udine and Triest down to Pula.
$50 might be a stretch, there are some hostels for sure but usually you look at $80 till you get to Slovenia/Croatia.

If you want a comfy vacation you shouldn't go to Europe in August. Any Euros can confirm this better than I can, but since Euros get all those free easy vacation days, like 75% of the continent takes like the entire month of August off to go camping and do road trips and shit. It'll be really busy at that time

I will check that route out, i was thinking the Rhine river route would be nice. And yesh my main idea is to go on a chill euro bicycle tour
Thought I would see whst other ideas are out there. Im planning a chill Japan trip, but summer will be too hot and i will go September/October

Yeah this is the reason I am trying to see what other options there are or little nooks off the beaten path that make for a magical time in europe in the summer
It is kinda nice to hope to meet some good folks at hostels or bars but we all know thats a difficult quest
Lviv in 2020 in September was pretty fuckin cash money in terms of a place to just walk around and eat food and it was real easy to go to live music every njght, lots of organ and classical concerts

>I happily pay to dine out or for good beer
reads like you never been to Switzerland
because, at least I stop happily paying when a 0,5l beer goes for 8 CHF

>But was thinking it would be nice to pay for a site so I can leave my gear while I piss off around town
>but i hate paying more than $50'for lodging
if you are fine camping
not wild camping, like regular camping areas where you pay per night and have toilets / showers / communal areas
50/night is plenty anywhere in Europe for a tent, even in high season
just need to avoid a few "premium" (expensive) camp sites

if you want a (private) room, that 50€/night will only work in some parts of eastern Europe or in low season
and even then it'll be a stretch for some Regions like the nordics, southern Germany or similar
maybe you can work with private rooms in hostels, but these are more rare and not always below 50/n

if you're fine with camp sites
do you balkans bike trip
did the tour down the Adriatic coast, from Italy through croatia. montenegro, greece to Istanbul myself a few years ago
it's an incredible beautiful stretch of land

>>2794423
>It'll be really busy at that time
yes
it's high season everywhere
but as OP wants to do a bike tour, crowds at beaches are less of a concern
only camp site occupancy
and a lot a seasonal stuff is open that would otherwise be closed off during off-season

Those a Zurich or Geneva prices, did you stop traveling in 2016? You already paid 8€ for a pint in Paris; London, Frankfurt and the cote azure back then. With the latest inflation you even look in Lech at 4.5€ for a 2dl beer in most places.
I won't get my 10/10 spots ruined but I can give you that: Go to Wildhaus in St. Gallen, it's a 10/10 location in the pre alps and still cheap as fuck, I had a 0.5l beer for 4.50CHF on Saturday.

The Baltic states have a fair number of semi-primitive sleeping options bookable online for a decent price. I expect you'll find even more when cruising around on a bicycle. Of course, the terrain isn't as spectacular as southern Europe, but the climate is more comfortable if you want a relaxing vacation.

>the terrain isn't as spectacular as southern Europe
and the bicycle paths are not that great either

it's also kind small
depending on your pace, it's 2weeks tops
i did a ~800km tour through all 3 and their most interesting spots
and it already felt like I've seen a lot
though you could just follow the coast line through Poland and Germany to extend

for anyone who hasn't cycled a lot through Europe already
I'd rather recommend the Adriatic coast than baltics
way more spectacular

>Is there bike path most of the way or whats the route consist of?
theoretically there's EuroVelo 8
but it's patchy
and especially on the Adriatic coast is often just (busy) streets

your best option is to either replicate some bikepacking bloggers routes
or just to plan from city to city / campsite to campsite

for some stretches you actually find well crafted pre assembled routes if you search something like
>city1 to city2 bicycle tour

otherwise I did my planning with a combination of OsmAnd (openstreetmaps), gmaps and komoot

the actual route was a combination of mostly dedicated bike paths and calm streets
sometimes short stretches of gravel or more busy streets
depending on your willingness of taking detours you can usually avoid the busy streets though

I will look into it more, thx
Im thinking the Elbe river path, or Rhine river path are sounding comfy
