Participating in Bon Odori is also fun. Bon Odori is very easy to learn and you will be dancing in no time.

Also never been to the surrounding areas of Tokyo such as Yokohama, Saitama or Chiba

I see many complain online about the heat in tokyo during July. Is it really that bad or is it just overweight americans and brits complaining? for reference, I'm fine in hot southern Europe during summer (can be 38 degrees)

>>2798664Overweight thing. It’s pretty simple, do your sightseeing and take breaks as needed. There’s buildings with A/C and vending machines everywhere.

Kind of related. Planning to go again this November, but this time stop at Manila for a few days before heading home. Asking if I should buy a one way ticket instead round trip and buy a ticket separately to go to Manila while in Japan then back home from Manila? Anyone done this? How much should I expect in spending my air fare in doing so?
>>2798714And I guess a follow up. I want to go to Fukuoka and Hiroshima this time and explore south of Japan this time. How was your experience there? What’s the hiking/outdoor experience there like? I went north around Akita and Morioka last year and it was pretty fun, so I’m hoping the same scenery if I go south this time
>>2798716i went to hiroshima in 2008 and visited the atomic bomb memorial, very much worth a visit, it rained the entire time i was there and i didn't explore much else
>>2798685>>2798692Most business hotels have laundry rooms with laundrettes, so you can do your laundry there.
In Japanese English, laundrette is called "coin laundry".
You can also find many laundrettes in your neighborhood by searching "coin laundry" on Google Maps.
Some laundrettes accept Suica, but in most cases, you need to use 100 yen coins.
There is a machine in the laundrette that converts 1,000 yen into 100 yen coins.
>>2798723The dryers in hotels are very scuffed in my experience. Takes like twice as long. I would probably recommend finding a proper laundromat because they have 2-in-1 machines that will wash and dry your clothes so you don’t have to switch them over. Generally will be pretty easy to find one near your hotel anyways
That being said it is still annoying going through 2 pairs of clothing in 1 day if you’re doing a lot of outdoors sightseeing during the summer

Anybody got any tips on how to find some weird shit in Japan? I don't even know what I'm looking for, in particular. Maybe a maid cafe where the maids deliberately insult me and call me a gross LBH gaijin pig. Maybe a hostess club where the girls are all 300 lbs that's full of a group of japanese guys having a bachleor party singing sweet caroline for karaoke for some reason. Maybe a Donald Trump themed bar that's exclusively 50 year old japanese men who are specifically racist towards mexicans even though they've never met one, and the bartenders are dressed like shrine maidens for some reason. Who would I ask about this? I'm well aware this kind of thing is not common knowledge to the Japanese, but I refuse to believe that, in all of Japan, a few places that fit this vibe don't at least exist. And I'm aware they may or may not be on maps. I'm prepared to ask around.

11-17, Kyoto. day trip to Nara, Onomichi, Imajima, and Miyajima
17-21, Takayama. day trip to Kamikochi
21-31, Tokyo. day trip to Fuji, Nikko
31-3, Kamakura. Beach
3-8, Kyoto.
>Japanese women aren’t as cute in real life as they are in pictures and videos online
This is truly devastating.
How can some of you get an entire month off work to dick around in Japan?
I can get 2 weeks at most, super jelly
>>2802062>theyre even cuter
>>2802022lemee give u more details
day 1 ueno+akihabara
day 2 tokyo station+ginza+odaiba
day 3 shibuya/harajuku
day 4 Asakusa+shinjuku
day 5 Mount fuji area lake kawaguchiko day trip
day 6 potential disney land day or Kamakura day trip
day 7 bullet train to kyoto + arashiyama area
day 8 fushimi inari + gion
day 9 train to osaka, osaka castle and dotonbori
day 10 USJ or Shinsekai area or Nara
Day 11 Hiroshima
Day 12 Day trip to kanazawa
Day 13 Kobe
Day 14 Ryokan day in Kinosaki or Arima onsen town
easily modifiable. but these are the main things people see in 2 weeks. you dont need to do kanazwa or nara or hiroshima, or disney land or USJ or Kobe, you could go to Hokkaido if you want. lots of options but this is a decent "normal" trip. there are some parts of a golden route that are somewhat essential, but you can add or drop whatever you want. and this all works in an efficient path. you could leave from KIX as well but i tihnk you bought your ticx
>>2802015As long as they have detergent vending machines I won't have to buy a big ass bottle to carry around for all the weeks I'll be there.
I just lost $9 in credit card rewards because the hotel I booked directly coded as "catalog merchant" like it's fucking 1980
>>2800542what the fuck you mean hard? you can found many rental places in Google Map. I got mine near Kyoto Station. 2k yen for a day.
>>2802062When you get older, you find plain girl is more cuter
>>2802090>Day 11 Hiroshima>Day 12 Day trip to kanazawa>Daytrip to kawaguchikoHoly whiplash anon. Do not do a daytrip to hiroshima from osaka, then another daytrip to kanazawa. You'll spend most of your time on transport and none appreciating the areas you're in.
And a daytrip to kawaguchiko? You'll need to book the train/bus tickets in advance otherwise you spend 4h on a local train and the rickety wooden one like me.
I reccomend kamakura and especially enoshima. Like you, i went to there instead of disney sea.
>>2798512 (OP)I'm traveling for 42 days this November, is there anyway to get a JR pass that would cover more than 21? Or will I just have to buy two of them?
>>2802126Sorry I kinda sperged out a random itinerary in a minute u are right definitely don't do that lol. I wouldn't even recommend Kanazawa personally, it's just something unique and less touristy
>>2801926Looks like there is the Castle and Trick Art museum there at the top of the ropeway. Might be a good way to kill a few hours.
Anyone here done this area before?
>>2802053Where is Imajiga? A day trip from Kyoto to Onomichi or Miyajima is reckless of you.
Do you intend to take a taxi or a rental car for a day trip from Takayama to Kamikochi?
>>2798749Their high school has a high standard for a commercial high school, with a deviation of 58.

Why do you nignogs kevetch so much over Japan? Just come Okinawa and relax at a beach or diving. Maybe work on your poor weight and do some marital arts like Karate.
Eat exclusively american food at the Base areas/hangouts. Okinawa women imo are hotter and just slightly more picky with men (considering you are up against marines/GIs). Already got a steady gf here.
>>2802180Do you ever take a moment to actually pause and scrutinize their faces?
Japan's rough.
>>2802194That's pretty mean anon.
>>2802194most of these aren't bad looking, it's just the strong sunlight that makes their eyes squint that looks worse on Asians. visit Tokyo/Osaka and you'll find they're quite nice looking on the mean.
Anyone know a hostel or a cheaper hotel in Tokyo where you can bring your bicycle inside? Figured I'd ask here before I start emailing places. Going september and there are million places.
>>2802202anon I like that you stand up for the girls but what you're saying objectively makes no sense. THEY'RE ASIAN.They look like they're squinting by DEFAULT.
>>2802090>>2802147Thanks nonetheless man very helpful
>>2802029You should spend less time worrying about other people
>>2798728Coin-op dryers, whether hotel or laundromat, won't dry all the way for 100 yen.
The other option is to dry the clothes in the room, or to add 100 or 200 yen to dry them completely.
>>2802209Isn't it normal for a hotel's website to list the availability of parking and bicycle parking?
Any thoughts on Nagano for 2 nights? We won't have a car so would have to rely on public transport but like hiking (and quite keen to see the little monkey fellas having a bath) and looking to book a Ryokan. Wondering if there's somewhere better to go (will also be doing Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka.
A thousand blessing upon your heads in advance
How busy does it get during Obon and also do lots of shops/restaurants close around then in Tokyo? Have been to Japan once before, but not during Obon.
>tfw only two weeks left in Japan
I'm seriously not ready to go back to shithole Canada.
>>2802175A round trip bus from takayama station
>>2802262Bicycle parking can mean a few things though, probably in Japan it's that there is a spot outside for it. Of course I know Japan is safe, but I would rather keep it inside.
>>2802287Many Hotels will consider it as travel luggage if you disassemble your bicycle and put it in a wheeled bag,
However, some do not, so you need to check in advance.
>>2798512 (OP)What are the best airports to be looking for reward point flights to japan if I'm sitting on a boatload of Amex points?
I do live near Denver international, but most of the flights are pretty horrendously priced for business class reward flights.
>>2802053>I’m looking for some unusual places to visitIn that case, why would you decide to spend 90% of your time staying in Kyoto and Greater Tokyo?
>>2802294If not a wheeled bag, a bicycle carry bag will suffice.
>>2802300Well, I’ll be honest, I love those cities. There are still so many things I haven’t done or visited, even on my previous trips. Plus, I want to see a fireworks festival.
Anyone know of any bars that have a nice city view? Could be any city, honestly. Or how I would find them/key words? I don't need a perfect high elevation skyline view, just any bar that I can cars/boats or buildings/people from at least 4-6 floors up would be lovely.
>>2802419Nice, thanks anon

This guy really makes me want to attempt talking to people in Japan. My Japanese is better than his but i don't really have the courage to just speak up to random people like that. He makes it look so fun though, even when its a bit akward

anything cool to do/nice places in nagoya?
i've heard its boring but also that its just about devoid of tourists
i'll be going for about a month with some friends coming for the first two weeks, and i'll be in Osaka when they leave, seems like it might be a nice spot to take it easy for a couple days
>>2802480Nagashima Spaland is the fuckin tits. Last time I was there, there was maybe 100 people in the park sharing like 13 rollercoaters. Ironically, this was recommended by someone in these threads back in 2018, so I'm passing it on.
There's also 3 different Toyota museums, obligatory observation tower spots and random parks and whatnot. I've got 2 nights planned there in August and that is plenty.

>>2802480With the Kintetsu Limited Express, Ise-jingu and Shima is just barely within a day trip.
What are some cool bars/places to talk to Japanese girls/people in Tokyo, goldengai seems like such a tourist trap.
>>2802533If you talk japanese, literally anywhere but Golden Piss.
Every random bar I went always had something going on. And if the bar owner doesn't want you here, he'll let you know right away (unless you're an autist who can't read a room).
>>2801717I was in the Fushimi-Inari taisha too and the amount of ching chongs with literally Photo studio hardware was unreal. This chings are so shallow they waste thousands of ching dollars just to take a pic at a fucking torii. At the end I just ended up walking in front of their cameras to make them seethe
>>2802556>At the end I just ended up walking in front of their cameras to make them seetheI was in Arakurayama Sengen Park and the place was absolutely swarming with jeets. The climb up had several flights of stone stairs and they were all panting and out of breath and clogging up the way up.
On the way back one group had their entire family blocking off the entire exit to where the main torii gate was. At that point I was so sick of their shit I just walked right into their photo to get by.
Any recommendations for hotels and ryokans in Tokyo and kyoto? I'm going 16 days and would like to try some variety.
Also some good onsens on those places or should I take a detour to try them out?
Please help
>>2802578Tokyo and Kyoto don't have the best onsens I would take a detour. some notable places are: Hakone, Arima onsen, Kinosaki onsen town
U definitely can find hot springs hotels in Tokyo and Kyoto but they might be overpriced or have to ship the water. Look up the "Onyado" chain in Kyoto, or spend on a "Machiya" like "machiya zeniyacho kyoto" with a hot tub
In Tokyo there's "Yuen Shinjuku "
My recommendation is go to Hakone, it's on the way from Tokyo to Kyoto and it's an active volcano with steam coming out of the ground
Where do people actually rent for cheap in japan? I remember both locals and foreigners telling me I'm getting ripped off through airbnb but none of them had a suggestion that didn't require a residence card.
>>2802462I'm white and seem to do well on Tinder in Tokyo. They're receptive, message first, and make plans to meet up. Many want to call first, though.

Anyone been to banpaku? I'm going with a friend next week, my friends and coworkers said it's mostly standing around in lines and trying to fight off the insects but I haven't been to Osaka in a while so I figured what the fuck. My friend wants to see the Gundam but there's nothing I'm particularly bent on seeing, mainly I just want to go to say that I've been.

Is the Visit Japan Web customs declaration and immigration clearance mandatory before arriving?
I thought you could just fill out a card on arrival.
>>2802995The Visit Japan stuff is just filling out the form digitally ahead of time. If you want to just scan a qr on your phone and go then use the Visit Japan site, if you want to use the paper method and wait in line then don't use it.

are there any good areas in Tokyo that have good nightlife but arent as busy as shinjuku, shibuya, roppongi etc

>>2803348Perhaps because of the fame of amateur prostitution in Okubo Park, you seem to misunderstand the meaning of tachimbo.
Tachimbo refers to street prostitutes and she asks "Hey, brother, would you like to play with me" to you in the alley.

try to be close to Shijo Bridge as its central to virtually everything important by walking and bus routes: gion, nishiki market, pontocho, kyoto station, fushimi, kawaramachi street. staying near kyoto station might sound smart but its actually a little far from some of the main sites in kyoto.
