I'd do it, but I have a feeling they have pretty shitty infrastructure and an annoying visa. I work remotely, so I'll probably just go to SE Asia or something

Wouldn't there have to be some decent hotels for government officials.

Visa used to be available on arrival but no more, now you have to get an e-Visa. It's not that hard though.
Infrastructure is okay, I was able to backpack there no problem. There are lots of hotels in all cities, especially in Najaf and Karbala.

Unironically me but it fucks my US esta waiver for life.
Iran sure I can understand that, but aren't the Iraqis all cool now apart from those dodgy border areas every country has?
There's looks like some amazing shit in there regional areas.
It's literally real traveller territory at this point, there's not many places left untouched by the first world hordes

I know a guy who went the year before last. It was safe enough for a real traveller™, but it was a huge hassle and the locals, especially young people, were very curious and took up a lot of his time. Infrastructure is still shit and it very much involves a DIY approach to almost everything you take for granted in country's with a developed tourism industry. He enjoyed it but more for the novelty, not because he was on a relaxing holiday or a nice break from his day job.

That sounds like a dream destination for the right person, a lot of peoples would love to just have discussions and go hunting for some ruins. I am not that guy I am too introverted.

Iraq is a desert river civilization like Egypt - but with nice people? Interesting. I'd definitely want to go with minimal luggage, so I can board crowded buses and comfortably tramp around town looking for a room to rent.
US State Department still has the country under a Level 4: Do Not Travel warning.
>Do not travel to Iraq for ANY REASON!!!1!

A lot of countries put a shitload of effort when they first "open up" they do dirt cheap tours at really good hotels and there are often lots of people secretly working in the background to make sure that everything is immaculate for you . Not great for "off the beaten track" types but you can get some god tier, heavily curated holidays.

They did this at Vietnam for a while and now you won't find anyone who had a bad time there.

I would probably go, but I know for sure this is one of those countries my mum would fucking whinge about (I don't live at home and im 29 btw) but my parents lived a sheltered life and have barely traveled they also believe everything on the telescreen.

How does /trv/ overcome this issue? (if its applicable to you)

shit response, are you implying you shouldn't be traveling in your late 20's? are you also implying your parents wouldn't give a fuck if you went to Iraq of all places? kek. I forgot everyone on 4chan is an edgelord.

Luckily I am not visiting Iraq it was just a general question, I don't actually let others opinions change where I go.

I would love to travel to Iraq and see Babylon etc..., but it seems like a very ill-advised venture as a clueless white guy who doesn't like goat meat.

It was a dumb question obviously nothing you can do will make your mother comfortable with you going to Iraq she will stay awake every night assuming you're getting tortured waiting for a random call.

If I am bored enough and see a dumb question I will give you an edgelord response also 29 it's too old to travel unless you look young.

low IQ reponse, there is no age limit to traveling and looks certainly has nothing to do with it. I am inclined to agree it probably was a dumb question though.

I would say you shouldn't be traveling if you don't have your life sorted beforehand, which I do. Am I too old to go to Barcelona and get on the beers at a hostel for multiple days? probably, am I too old to travel accross the plains of Kazakhstan/Mongolia on horseback, or hike throughout Patagonia? no. Traveling at this age is miles better as I am financially stable and can have nice things. I also appreciate things more. Then if I were 21 constantly thinking where my next fuck is coming from.
Anonymous No.2802836
I would love to visit it but it's fuck the ESTA(I need for work) for life, same as Iran or Cuba so sadly it won't happen.

because we occupied Iraq I don't think it will ever be safe there for tourists. To invade was one thing, to fight soldiers, but in occupying the country we committed awful crimes against iraqi civilians. They are still playing potato with the iraqis who helped our forces during the invasion, if you got shot in the back it wouldn't be talibans, it would be locals who risked their lives to help us and who we subsequently fucked.

I spent a lot of time in the middle east, and people tried to kill me often enough that I wouldn't recommend going there. the people are great in general, but that doesn't mean much when you encounter the one guy actively trying to kill you.
