my uncle (widowed, adult kids) started solo traveling like 8y ago
I kinda motivated him, as I was solo traveling a lot during that time (university)
you travel a bit differently with age though
like he won't take a shitty night bus just because it's a few € cheaper than flying
and he changes cities less often
generally more relaxed, no clubs or busy bars
he also somehow always meets other retired, local 50s dudes
seems to be easier to socialize (or just his personality idk)
literally, second day after arrival and he always already found a group to go drinking in the evening
last year he was in China, knows like 10words Mandarin, but second day, some backwater city, he posts a photo getting drunk with old chinese guys in a park (teahouse?), and one of those was the fucking vice mayor
