I'll be travelling in August to the UK. I'm staying at Guildford for a week, but I'd like to see more places, specially in London. It's a family trip, so we're more interested in sight-seeing and trying new foods.

We've been to the country a few times already, so we're trying to find some places that aren't as mainstream as the usual, yk, London Eye, London Tower, Big Ben... etc.

Any reccomendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Do you like hiking? Quite a few nice treks around the Surrey Hills, Chantry Wood to Shere is quite decent along the North Downs Way, with a brief detour up to Newlands Corner along the way. All close to Guildford.

Will always recommend the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard if you're a fan of historical ships. HMS Victory is still being restored but you can see the restoration works and still tour the inside of the ship (the audio tour is great). The Mary Rose exhibit is also really good.

in london, suggest looking up if there are any niche theme tours your group would be into if you have already felt youve seen the major attractions.

if by train guildford to winchester is 50min 1 change, winchester is a historical town first capital of england, has some king arthur lore.

by train to salisbury 1.5hr 1 change. they have a grand cathedral, if you drove there their greater region has stonehenge to the north.

if you had a car, look at google maps of the regions you're driving about there's always some great house whether its on the level of a fancy palace or was some historical person's family mansion.
like West Horsley Place or East Horsley Gothic Mansion. Of houses of famous people there is jane austen's house, a bit away is rudyard kipling's house

beachy head and seven sisters near Eastbourne is a nice walk area of the white cliffs. and its the start of the south downs way that you could pick a closer inland sectino to walk. but driving in similar areas will have nice view.

whatever region you pass through look up on map national trust or english heritage, they both caretake interesting places that might not be an internatinoal draw but cool if in the neighbrohood. entrance fee usually but some can be admired outside. national trust if u go a lot of local sightseeing at home they have reciprocal memberships with many countries if its worth your while.

if u travel around a bit there are sometimes cool ruins, many of these are abbeys or priorys
waverly abbey and newark priory are near guildford look neat if in the neighborhood.
depending on what demographics are in your group, the rural life living museum might be a fun trip
thorpe park and legoland windsor are nearby amusement parks if into that.

Sound good. We're visiting some relatives of ours, so perhaps leave those for the weekend, so they don't work and we can go there by (their) car, instead of London and all that, which is accesible by public transport
>thorpe park
What goes on there?
>legoland windsor
Never been there. Is it for kids?

If you're into coasters, Thorpe Park is a must. Just be aware it's summer holidays so it'll be busy. Avoid weekends.

for tourists just dont mindlessly walk with your phone out as some youths on e-bikes will have singled you out and double backed to snatch it.
if you are in a mix neighborhood half boho/hipsters half immigrants and are looking around at your surroundings someone is always clocking you
