Avebury is the 'must see' site in Wessex.
Orkney would be an epic journey. If you can manage, a trip to St Kilda or Foula would be amazing.
You'd wanna stick to the more rocky west of the country. Starting in Cornwall & Wessex, and making your way up to the Scottish Islands.
Not too sure about France.
Get the ferry from Britanny to Plymouth to get a sense of the waters, which are integral to the history of the UK. Approaching the UK by sea is massively important if you want to 'feel' the history.
Cornwall was massively important for tin in the bronze age. Some people say it was one of the most important places in the world.
Wessex/Somerset is kind of the beating heart of English history and a must see area.
