2000s was not peak for Japan.
I visited with my parents in 87 when I was a little kid and in 98 when I was a teenager. Both times were better than in 2002 when I visited as an adult. It was a totally different vibe in the 2000s. You got less for your money. You only got the most basic hospitality. And you could sense more resentments in the Japanese because their economy was obviously declining. Yes, it is much worse today and the facade is down. Japanese (not working in tourism) are openly hostile to tourists. Law enforcement is far less forgiving. And the gaijin tax is stronger than ever before.

You know that youre not better than boomer, or some stuckup-in-time obssesed indivudual?
Sure, the place felt better when you were there when you were a kid/young.
Sure, the place was fresh and fell crowded with people and turtist.
See how many more people that have money to travel is, how in a span of last 30y,25,20y population of eatrh only keep growing.
People like>>2806906 are just stupid, Im in my late 30 but im positive that some kid that will go this year to jap will think its best place/its best trip and than he will say it was a bit worse if he go 10y after.

I'd say a lot of places do feel better when you grow up, it's just that you start looking at them differently and pay attention to different aspects. When I was 20, it was cool to stay at some hostel, talk to random people, go to nightclubs and whatever. Now that I am 30 one of the main thoughts in my head is "would I want to actually live in this city?".

Japan is worse, for you, for all 30+ that expirienced it beofee it went to "shit", for japs and gajins alike, just majority of human population. Its a standard thing, people find new awsome place, supply meets demand, few years pass and suddenly place turns to shit. Popular places that dont meet this criteria are exceptions. Suicide rates dont have anything to do with this tho, it was crawling problem even then, theres just more exposition now.
>>2806941
I dont treat holiday destinations as a probable new home scenario, I dont want to live in japan, but sure everyone think diffrently. When I spoke about travelling while you are a kid, theres certain neural pathways still developing, you can develop a certain chemical reaction just because you expirience something and recalling it will trigger said pathway. It probably can be done when youre young adult, but to smaller degree. Also your senses are usualy stronger, thus you expirience everything more vivid.
>>2806950
I didnt state that japan is awsome anywhere in my post, just said that you can still find amazing things off beaten paths, you just have to look.
Imthe onoy one that dont focus on how shit japan is. I acknowleged that many places went to shit, but saying that all japan is shit is just ignorant and is just a whining.

China still seems peak. In 2014, there were already LED covered skyscrapers. What would've changed? The tourist attractions existing in 2010 are more likely developed (more food stands, more stairs, more gondolas, more people), but you can just find other less appreciated tourist spots.

Are the women too educated now, and you can't manipulate them as easily now, or what?

Maybe Japan was more peak 1800-2005.

Yeah grandpa. Its just the way of debt cycles. Places are good when the governments can't loan shit, no assets and no printing of promises money. 2. They are constantly making new inventions. Which makes money and lowers corruption.
Japan has been stuck at free money government stage for a while. And all the commonwealth countries are about to follow it soon in the next 5 to 15 years. Now would be a good time to visit canada or australia. I wouldn't be suprised if its like you visiting japan in 1998. Except already full of pajeets...

China would be the place to go in the 2030s... If only it wasn't for the fact they are a corrupt system with a veil of fascism(legalism). Don't want to be there if you have any sort of valuable ties. Being held hostage in any form. And vice versa for them.

Japanese hate their own form of sarcastic disdain. They don’t like being inconvenienced by foreigners who barely speak Japanese. They don’t like having to use English.

If you stay around long enough they get used to your presence.

I also want to add that a lot of my bias comes from the fact that I work in gaming journalism. Back then we still published on physical magazines. I went to Japan for the debut of the PlayStation 2. I came back with a Sony Vaio laptop and a few other gadgets that you couldn’t even buy in the US at the time. All made in Japan. That is what Japan was like back then. all this doomerism is suspicious. you sound like a wumao shill. plenty of countries have pulled themselves out of a prolonged economic slump. and even if japan doesn't pull itself out of it, a gentle decline stretched over decades still sounds better than being enslaved to china. nothing's gonna happen as long as america continues to defend japan.

the worst part of japan's woes is the demographic decline but you hardly touched on that.

I think Chinese culture is really improving fast. Like, young Chinese people are actually nice and friendly and interesting as opposed to the Chinese even 20 years ago.
The nightlife is fun and it's reasonably easy to survive now with all the apps and shit. You still get the JBW benefits unlike Japan or Korea.
In this sense I agree that the peak should be now or soon-ish.
With their visa policy right now, it's retarded not to go — it's so easy to get into China now if you're from an actually civilized western country.

no america rip, as well as a few other countries i think

feel like china's kinda past its peak tho

first been there as a boy in 2011, last in 2018, and i can definitely see the changes, whether for better or for worse

probably changed much more since then, with an intervening global pandemic and all that

china in 2011 was wild, like you didn't even have to wear a seatbelt in a car etc. shanghai still felt futuristic, but it sort of had this frutiger aero optimistic future thing going on, especially with the expo having happened a year ago. and other cities sort of saw the same thing, even the lower tier ones

e.g. back then there were still old village districts, where you could get skeevy street food and stuff, many of which have now been razed or "renovated" (gentrified, in our terms)

nowadays there are a lot more malls and everything is more sterile

japan peaked in like 2000, bubble and just post-bubble japan was awesome and basically felt like america if the 80s never ended. now it feels like the 80s never ended and everyone's coming down off a decade long coke bender and they're mad at everything

Also, the entire South Korea and Japan were used as cumrags for whites from 1945-1980s.

Japanese teenage girls used to have sex with the occupation troops in 1945-1947 just for chocolate.

Being handsome and in the know (adapting to their fashion and ways of doing things) is helpful but I dont think jbw is really strong.

I met Chinese tourists, and those girls were reaaaaally into me and I felt they were much easier to deal with than J girls.

Chinese girls are kinda bro-ish. No nonsense, easy to figure out, read.

J girls are like a closed box of emotions that is always smiling and saying “try me” but it opens arbitrarily.

Of course, eventually I learned to read J girls too, but it took time to master that skill.

If you want to have fun dating and enjoying pleasures of life, China might be better.

That said, I picked Japan because of my overarching interests in their aesthetics, language, marts, cars, history etc.

China I only recently became curious about as their soft power is increasing with AI etc. Id love to visit but I know zero Chinese and not willing to bother with it atm.

I explored working in China for a while and I might give it a shot eventually.

For now honestly I missed white women. Yeah they are difficult. Yeah they smoke and have tattoos (not popular in Japan).
