Is it worth swearing my undying loyalty to Israel just to visit the US? I was planning a trip to the East Coast, but I am also kinda critical of the nation of Israel. Are there any other countries that require you to promise not to criticize a completely different country from the one you want to enter? Is this a normal thing? First time traveler here.

That actually happened. At the Presidio, Texas border crossing from Mexico. What did I do wrong? I turned off my motor in the intake lane, put my truck in neutral, and used the slope to roll forward any time the queue moved up.

They also shackled me hand and foot and then linked the chain to a metal bench. I laid down and pretended to snooze.

Both of us were White male American citizens crossing in July 2017, under the Trump administration.

BTW I had no front license plate while making the crossing because my vehicle was registered in North Carolina. Interestingly, the police never bothered me in Mexico while driving a Ford Explorer with no front license plate.

No, you don't have to get a car. I came back from 9 months on foot overseas and now I'm living on foot in small town USA, walking to town on an errand most days.

Rent a cargo van and sleep on an airbed in the back while you do your loop trip. For one night's stay in a downtown hotel you can buy a decent roadtrip camping setup. Give it to a bum when you're ready to leave the country. Your contribution to the sidewalk cities, kek.

People who say this cannot be trusted. You have to be on guard in America, especially when doing business with private parties. They will say anything to get a deal, much like their president. Businesses also love to tack on a whole bunch of extra fees on top of their advertised cost, a reprehensible practice which is legal in the USA. Law enforcement have become extremely jumpy, and a traffic stop can go bad in an instant. And we haven't even gotten to the urban criminality which is a routine occurrence in many cities that tourists would like to visit (and maybe try to stay for cheap in the ghetto).

Can they really access your phone and refuse entry if you say no? On what grounds do they ask for it?
