More people travel. More people with less money, education, life experience, etc travel. More people are on social media and exposed to travel content.
Travel is no longer niche and aspirational, its not a luxury, its "a right", its expected.
This is where entitlement comes in. Its why some dickhead will bring their whole family to a local event and demand it be changed for their benefit, while their toddler screams and carries on and their 8 year old smashes an ancient vase or some shit.
Americans and Chinese are particularly guilty of this shit - both, in general think they are the centre of the world and everyone else needs to cater to their needs.

My theory is that it's post-covid. People stopped going into restaurants and social activities at home and now funnel it all into a Ticket-to-Dreamland® Thailand/Latam. This would explain why they are so bitter and tense abroad after 1 complete year of fun deprivation. travel used to be expensive and difficult. the best resource you had was lonely planet guidebooks that would go out of date and you had to be able to deal with language barriers, inaccurate maps, currency exchange, paper visas, bureaucracy only open 10am-2pm, all that crap. This put many off anything other than Med beach package holidays. Now that people who are really quite stupid can just google their way out of a problem the barrier to entry to visiting interesting places has fallen, even as more people have more money to spend on travel, so you get more and shittier tourists everywhere
