Eating breakfast right now they all take way too much food here and barely eat half of it, I saw a child take a full plate of food and only eat the bacon on it then his parents didn't even make him take the pile of food to the garbage bin they all got up and left it there.

I meant "reading" as being like socially aware of directions and signage more than willing to actually read say a book. Sure, your point is valid, but I feel 4 out of 5 times a "dumb American tourist" moment happens it's just due to someone not realizing the signage around them or reading stuff that is normally just spoken or assumed in the USA.
