Business class thread
Discuss business class travel.

Recently flew United Polaris and I was very pleasantly surprised by everything including the food and especially the Polaris lounges. Probably my favorite US business class product on the market right now.

Why is business class so shit in Europe? Lufthansa's is embarrassingly bad but at least they seem to have realized this so they're rolling out Allegris, except that the rollout is so slow they may as well just fucking give up. Air France seems to be the only one actually trying.

>Why is business class so shit in Europe?
Business class this fancy is a pretty recent trend. It used to be mostly just a lie-flat seat but otherwise not too different from what you get in premium economy nowadays. This is what you will still find on offer at many European carriers. The extra fancy "luxurious" business class trend started with Middle Eastern airlines and Europe is only now catching up. European carriers are not really known to be ahead of the game.

>Why is business class so shit in Europe?
finnair has the single most comfortable business class seat in history. everything else about the airline is pretty meh at best but their seats are fucking comfort incarnate. it's a fucking sofa on a plane. I could spend days in those motherfuckers.

You fail to understand that European airlines have two very different business classes: domestic short-haul, where it's just an economy plus. And international long-haul, which is done on widebody airplanes. Pretty much any European airline's business class in long-haul is way, way better than anything Americans have.

>Pretty much any European airline's business class in long-haul is way, way better than anything Americans have.
That's the point: this is completely false.
An American airline's long-haul business class looks like the OP pic. The majority of European airlines' business class looks like pic related. The state of long-haul business class in Europe is a fucking travesty.

And even short-haul is no excuse: American airlines will give you more spacious seats for short-haul business class flights (pic), while European airlines will seat you in the exact same seats as economy with 20cm legroom.

Last time I was on a flight there was a Chinese guy in first class who kept getting up and walking through economy and walking back. He did it several times throughout the flight. I think he wanted people to notice he was in first class lol

Only Lufthansa and LOT has those layouts still and both are getting rid of it soon-ish
KLM still has some A330s with that layout but they are getting retired soon, all their 777s have the suites already

What would cause a business class flight to be cheaper than economy? This actually happened to me once.

>transatlantic flight (North America to Europe)
>business class was $1200
>economy class was close to $2200

I recently flew Qantas first class on an A380. I thought it would be like BusinessClass+ but nope, first class is a class of its own, and in a good way. It's the comfort, the freedom of movement and all the conveniences that come with it that make the difference. Sure the food, drinks and service you get are better, but that's just secondary to the points i just mentioned. Fk, give me economy class food on first class it will barely make a difference to the experience.

It was SYD to JNB, 15 hours to JNB and 12 hours on the way back. I honestly would have rather stayed up in the air than land at JNB. It was that comfy. These super long flights made the experience that much better.

Qantas first class on a380 is on the lower deck at the front of the plane. There are these stairs you can go up to the upper deck into this lounge that can be accessed by first and business class passengers. You know who's who depending on the pajama's theyre wearing. So i was acting all smug to everyone else who was hanging out in the lounge while i was watching my anime on my ipad and sipping on blue label.

I don't want to talk about if it was financially worth it or not (it was a $12k AUD return ticket fyi). But if any of you folks get a chance to get a long-haul first class ticket on a wide body, you should definitely take it! Also, AMA.

Sometimes I can see Emirates first class promo fares from my home airport to Tokyo for 6k EUR (return), maybe next time I'll catch that.
It's a DXB layover so would also include the lounge experience.

How long will the flight be and what plane? I think EK has first class on their a380 and 777 planes, and the experience would be a bit different.

But either way, EK first class seems miles ahead of what i experienced at Qantas. You get an actual suite and it looks like you get picked up by a driver and there's an actual bar on the plane. However the downside is that you'll likely cross paths with heathen arabs. Still worth it i reckon.

Both, the feeder to DXB is services by their oldest 777s however, it doesn't even have lie-flat business. That's just a 5h leg though, the A380 leg is 10-11 hours.

Not sure if they offer the driver service locally though, have to look into that.

11 hours on an EK a380 first class? I'd do it for sure! It's probably the best experience you can get on a plane atm, except for flying private. How long is your layover? Perhaps you can ask them for a driver to take you around dubai for some photos or some shit.

in my experience of bars on planes, people just go to get a drink then go back to their seat. unless it's a couple/friends/colleagues travelling together who want to chat with each other for a bit, people don't tend to spend a lot of time actually in the bar area

The Qantas lounge area sucked, it had 2 tables with bench like seats, sort of like booths, and another bench of seats on the other side. There was also a bit screen with the 3D flight map showing. There were barely any people there when i went. I only stayed there for about an hour until the novelty wore off and i returned back to my seat.

The other airlines have bars in their a380 lounges...which could be cool since you could converse with the barman.
