Leaving everything
Its been a while since posting and I see my old post is still on here. Im about to drive west and try to find what im missing. With this rav4, 2k cash some camping gear and everything. I am putting my full faith in God that he will provide me with my daily bread and good things. I do not know the destination I only know that a massive adventure awaits me. With some weed and mushrooms I will be traversing the American west and, potentially other areas, on a drug induced quest to find something that I am not even sure exists. A place to call home. I've spent alot of time outdoors so to hell with you guys thinking I wont make it far with 2k cash. Im talking I will be eating wild game almost every day and not spend a penny more than I need to. I will do my best to update this board every day and hope to have some great adventures. I am confident that i can pray to my father for daily necessities and he will provide. Otherwise I will come to him eventually. Pic related is my setup. I made the bed with scrap wood. I'll be bringing some hunting and fishing gear and all the empty space you see will most likely be things like rice and beans and grains that I can eat

So, you're going to make it to the midwest, get pulled over in Oklahoma/Southern State with highway patrol asking you WTF you're doing, hear your story, bring out the dog, and lock you up.

Also 2,000 with a bunch of shit in a Rav4 isn't a lot in gas. Enjoy your month driving around before running out of cash

Traveling with Drugs and Guns, what could go wrong in a time where State Troopers, Highway patrol, local law enforcement, and DHS are specifically looking for illegals on the highways trying to run to some Sacturary cities.

Can't say I condone what is quite literally a felony on a federal level,

This is how people end up homeless lmao.

The first time a game warden rolls up on him, catches him roasting a squirrel on a stick with a campfire in a no burn zone, and no overnight camping, hunting/fishing without a license, finds the drugs, hes gonna end up in jail for awhile, then get out and be in debt due to the 20,000$ in fines he's accrued. Car will be impounded, no way to get it out.

You just checked yourself into the prison cycle / homeless matrix in which you will not escape xDDD

>memory foam mattress pad
Good idea.
>drug induced quest
I did something similar in 2017-2018, with weed and LSD. It put my mind in a difficult place that has left me permanently detached from humanity and unable to re-engage. Luckily, in 2019 I found a work arrangement which helped me push forward and accumulate $15000 in reserve funds while living sober, and six years later I'm still working the same job for a few months every year and now living in an on-site apartment.
>a place to call home
Shed this fantasy, or it will plague you with discontent everywhere you go. You're choosing the life of a migrant. The American West is full of rootless vagabonds. It takes YEARS to build deep & lasting friendships which make a place feel like home. Personally, I've accepted my status as a migrant laborer with low social market value. Americans are generally kind and courteous people who want to spread positivity, but they have strong emotional firewalls.
>massive adventure awaits me
It's not a guarantee, anon. If you develop an antipathy toward the people around you and shun their company, chances are nothing meaningful will happen on your trip.
>eating wild game almost every day
Plenty of town deer to shoot here in Colorado, lol. Hack off a chunk of ass and leave the rest, I guess.
>>2810069
Don't break any traffic laws, and you will never get pulled over. I don't recommend sitting spaced-out in your vehicle in a town park or some other place where the cops might roll up. Many heartland American towns are hostile toward vagabonds.
>>2810212
I've camped in wild spaces all across America and never had USFS / BLM rangers roll up on me. When I traveled with weed, I would keep it locked up in my glovebox at all times.
>>2810190
Instead of worrying about what might happen, prepare yourself every morning to deal with whatever challenges lie before you. Worst case, you abandon the vehicle and set out walking with your rucksack.
Anonymous No.2810223 >>2810257
Ignore the naysayers in this thread, anon. They will make up any excuse to stay playing vidya in mom's basement and never venture out into the great unknown. That being said, the tremendous emptiness of America can be difficult to accept when you are alone. Even towns can seem so freaking devoid of life. You have to actively seek out people and break the ice; apart from rare instances where someone feels led by God to approach you, Americans aren't gonna come to you and intrude themselves into your life.

Remote resorts in Montana and Wyoming might be willing to hire a vagabond on the spot, now that college kids are going back to school. I recommend booking it straight out there from Wisconsin and making some money in the summer. Summer seasonal jobs are much more plentiful than winter seasonal jobs, and camping out is much more doable in the warmer months if you don't want to stay in the dirty employee dorm.

I'd recommend selling the 1911 desu. A shotgun would be more useful for hunting. Laws regarding pistols in cars are much more complex from state to state than laws regarding long guns in cars. I traveled all across America with two long guns and only had a problem in New York state, where the law says that long guns have to be locked up and separate from ammunition while in transit.
Anonymous No.2810228
If you just want to hide away in the forest, consider Michigan. I spent about $700/month vagabonding there and bought a fair bit of local products as well.
Going West has always meant finding work with whatever outfit is hiring.

You ever consider the fact God might be giving you warning flags to not do something? Reminds me of the drowning man who got sent a boat, helicopter, and raft but said no god will save him, he dies and gets to Heavan asking God why he wasn't said. That's because tradie slobs drive around with burnt-out taillights, change lanes without signalling, speed well in excess of the limit, park illegally, roll stop signs, and otherwise behave like assholes all the frickin time.

There shouldn't be any weed smell in your car when you're traveling. Bottle your bud and pipe up, then screw the lid closed. I got pulled over for speeding in Utah with weed, I wasn't high and the cops never suspected me. There are certain roads you shouldn't drive high on. Back roads with low speed limits and little traffic, that's the ticket for smoking & cruising.
>>2810535
Anywhere along the way you feel like stopping. I recommend picking a US highway, as the less-visited towns can be a lot friendlier than the interstate towns.

No, full-time wagecuck positions in Sprawlville are not ideal for a rootless traveler sleeping in his car. HR roasties get the ick from transients, and renting a room would wipe out your savings and leave you trapped in the dullness of wagecucking in Sprawlville when there's a whole epic wild country out there to experience.
I set out on my own in February 2015 with about $1500. Was gonna head west like OP, but chickened out and headed east into Ohio, almost running out of money before landing a seasonal job at a resort in northern New Hampshire three and a half months after quitting my previous job.

You either don't drive regularly or never been on highway travel much.

Cops will pull you over because something looks loose and could be a hazard, smelling weed is something cops use ALL THE TIME even if there is no weed, same with "I smell booze" it's called a fishing stop.
"Oh I smelled weed maybe it was something else like a passing car or something on the side of the street. lol!" There the cop can basically get out of a bad stop.

If you don't have them already get rain guards for your windows so you can leave them cracked regardless of the weather. If your windows are shut in hot weather the temperature can be unbearable and in cold weather you'll ice over the inside of your windshield with a pretty thick layer. Condensation from your breath on the windows in even mild weather will give you away as sleeping in your vehicle at a distance and invite trouble.

>They should be legal in all states i believe
While those are probably legal to own in your fixed place of residence in all 50 states different states have different laws about transporting and carrying firearms. Look into federal safe passage laws, which will help if you're passing through somewhere but not if you're staying. The presence of guns (and other perceived weapons) can enhance drug charges, as other Anons pointed out.

My years-long vanlife saga ended when my van was broadsided and totaled. The insurance company screwed me over and I didn't have enough cash to buy a new vehicle or enough parts to replace what had been destroyed. I had the van towed to my workplace and then rented a trailer to move all my stuff to a relative's house several states away.

>I don't recommend sitting spaced-out in your vehicle in a town park or some other place where the cops might roll up.
The cops might roll up anywhere. You should always expect law enforcement interactions when sleeping in your vehicle, in my experience. Standard patrols aside, busybodies will call the cops on you if they see you sleeping somewhere, parking somewhere for too long, or parking somewhere they're not used to seeing vehicles like yours parked.

I had a buddy who did this. Worked for a few months in Antarctica then came back and drove around the country, seeing sights and sleeping in his car, at campsites, and staying at friends places for stretches of time, then would go back to work in Antarctica for a few months to get more money to do it all again.
Did it for about 2 years before flipping his car doing donuts in the lawn staying at a friend's cabin. Died of internal bleeding or something a few days later. Cops found his body maybe a day or two after that laying on the kitchen floor. He was a cool guy and lived his last years better than I'd be able to.

It depends. Sometimes you'll be in some violation of some local ordinance you didn't know about and by being polite with a reasonable cop you can get off with a warning, get advice on how to stay out of trouble locally, and have a local cop know your situation and that you're not a troublemaker. If you act like you have something to hide the cops may become more hostile, tell their coworkers that you seem like trouble, and endeavor to harass you until you leave town (some may do this anyway because most drifters are more likely to be a nuisance than the general population). However, I don't drink or do drugs, I keep clean and healthy, and I'm generally not considered a degenerate so your experiences may end up different than mine.

Look at which chains are around the regions in which you plan to loiter. I prefer Anytime Fitness for their selection of barbell training equipment but any 24-hour gym chain will work. Planet Fitness is cheap so I almost signed up for that as a backup option for locales without Anytime Fitness before my van was destroyed.

You can also shower at truck stops in a pinch. If you're comfortable asking around a bit a lot of truckers end up with way more free showers from buying fuel than they could ever use so you might find one willing to let you shower for free. I've only done this once: the trucker offered while standing in line behind me at the register as I was about to pay for one.

I'm the US county map anon. Oldfags who traveled America in 2014 would've encountered much more harassment from police as a vagabond. I drove east and north to Maine in 2021 and never got hassled once by anyone, apart from a $100 parking ticket for parking on the street in a beach town that had one tiny sign at the end of the street saying "Permit Parking Only".

>Fiver for a Shower
Most truckers will refuse the $5 tip, but one time the shower ticket he gave me was not valid. I brought it back to the Pilot desk and they sent me into the shower anyway. This was in Fort Stockton, Texas. Unless you like dust bathing or water jug bathing, shower options are very few in that part of Texas.

I traveled through Maine smoking weed and didn't have any issues. Went to an acid-fueled birthday party which quickly degenerated into anarchy and an all-around ketamine binge. Dude payed $550 cash for some k and left the $450 sitting out on the counter at the party. The ketamine hit me like I was a horse, after drinking all day, dropping acid and then passing out in my van to wake up tripping with the party fully underway. Remarkably, I felt great the next morning and even cleaned up the yard for the folks (in addition to bringing two thirty racks to ensure my welcome). BTW the friend who invited me to the party showed up extremely drunk, THC moonshine likely, and refused to acknowledge me all night. I had picked up him up a month earlier walking 8 miles back to his house with some groceries after his truck broke down.

Put the freakin license plate on the trailer. It's that simple. Sometimes 1 out of 3 vehicles in recreational traffic here in Colorado are towing a trailer. If your license plate is not fully visible from the rear, you're bound to get pulled over at one point or another.

Speeding through a village in excess of its posted limit is disrespecting the townspeople's right to govern the flow of traffic through their town. Doesn't matter if you were doing 85 a couple miles back. If that sign says 25, slow your ass down to 27 mph maximum. You can coast into most towns if you let off the gas a few hundred yards before the first speed reduction warning sign. Note that some states don't have warning signs for speed reductions.

Just a few months ago while going through upper South Dakota a drug enforcement cop pulled me over for 1 (one) mph over and then quizzed me for nearly 20 minutes while stalling on his ticket. Had a k9 sniff around as well. Eventually he gave up knowing I had nothing, but you could tell those pricks were just fishing for bigger charges. Let me off with a warning. Mind you everyone else that was driving that road (see: less than 10 people) all past me at way greater speeds so this mother fucker wasn't enforcing speed for shit.

Very true for stealth parking on town streets. You can get woken up and have the drug dog visit. I'd only recommend it in New England, where van vagabonds are less common and public lands with free camping don't exist. Had a great experience in Mass and Maine with stealthing in municipal lots. Some were much darker and more peaceful than Walmart - most of which are illegal to camp at these days.

I think they are tho.

THe worst thing you could do is chat with them all friendly like, and then when they ask you if you mind if they take a look around your car, you freeze up like a deer in the headlights. When you see videos of people getting busted with drugs, guns and even dead bodies in their car it's always becaue they were so stupid and gave the cop permission to snoop around. The cops are looking for a reason to arrest you. Until you give them permission, they cannot search your car. That's why the best policy is to say "I don't talk to police. If you're going to give me a ticket, give me a ticket. Am I detained? If you're going to detain me what is your probable cause?" They'll get the idea you're a sovereign citizen wack job or the police auditor and let you go on your way. At least this is the conclusion to be drawn from watching police audit videos on YT. Nope, police are only required to disclose the reason for an arrest, not for a detention. However, most will tell you why they pulled you over as a courtesy.

When I got pulled over in Utah with weed, I chatted with the cop about the local area, and he told me about a cool lake with camping down a side road. Issued me a verbal warning for going 60 in a 45 which preserved my flawless 12 year driving record. If I started repeating shit I saw on YouTube, it definitely would not have ended that way.

The weed is the problem, especially seeing as you can easily buy some weed in Montana once you get there. Police K9s are VERY good at picking up weed smell. I had one drug dog at a CBP checkpoint hit on my truck in Texas over a week after I quit smoking weed while on a roadtrip in Mexico. I even had the whole inside vacuumed out and cleaned. A simple tip and they cross reference the license plate and your car model and get the full plate. Then they put it out as a bulletin for the plate scanners all police / highway patrol run these days and they get it flagged as you drive by. An anonymous tip that somebody with your vehicle picture was posting about transporting drugs and weapons gives them probable cause for a search.

Its an easy win for them and you are a fool for not taking your security seriously. It will seem a lot less funny to you when you're getting the "Do you know why I pulled you over?" talk, and you're stammering and about to spit out your sovereign citizen bit.
