NTA but there are huge differences in development between the different SA nations. Moreso than Europe, or North America. He is correct to say it is more similar to Asia in that respect. You've got countries that are on the level of Eastern Europe and countries that are on the level of Africa. Also regions within countries.
You are also glazing over ethnic/cultural/language differences. People in the Guyanas are majority Pajeet. They speak French/Dutch/English. Bolivia is Native-majority. Paraguay is Mestizo but they speak a native language (Guarani). Peru is 50/50 native-mestizo, lots of people speak Native languages like Quechua. In Argentina and Uruguay people are as likely to be Italian or Spanish, jury's still out on "whiteness" which is an American concept but many people are unmixed European (about half in both countries). Then in Colombia and Venezuela you've got large African populations. And Mesoamerica is its own distinct cultural region as well.
Brazil is its own world, it's like continent's differences I outlined but all inside a single country.
"Colonized by Iberians" is the most midwit take you could have, it's a very diverse continent.
