You can't convince me that EVERY part of India is bad. Why did so many American hippies travel to India in the 1970s? It has to be somewhat good.

That was before disposable single-use plastic. The streets were still full of shit, but there was a lot less trash. Hippies don't mind shit, it's natural. India was also a lot less crowded in the 70s than it is today. There were many more bicycles and rickshaws than motorbikes and cars, so the street noise was jingling bells and shouts rather than honking and revving. Much less stressful.

the first lonely planet book was published in 1973. it was a guide to travelling cheaply across asia. it was hugely influential on a generation of travellers.

You're a traveler, not a prosperous citizen. You're not going to live in a gated community, you're not going to have a private chauffeur, you're not going to have access to all the upscale private spaces that middle-class families spend their time in. Thus, their existence is irrelevant to you. As a traveler, you'll be spending your time in PUBLIC spaces, which as everyone points out are all degraded, congested shitholes to some extent. Still, I'm willing to accept that and roll with it. Might even go for the windowless room, because a room with a view is invariably going to be plagued with street noise.

Why would I want to visit a business park in a foreign country? Really though, there are good and ugly places everywhere in the world. In India sure the good places look like your pic, the bad places are literal dumps with people shitting in the open air, mountains of trash and people trying to sell you food that will put you in the hospital.

In say, Germany for example the bad places look relatively similar to the rest of the country just with a few Africans trying to sell you drugs.

In a little over four months I will hopefully be sharing the reality of travel in India (not the hellishly overcrowded north, but the more reasonably populated central regions). Looking to land in Mumbai and fly out of Hyderabad. Perhaps detouring to Goa along the way. Travel by train would be ideal, and I'd be open to stopping anywhere along the way with suitable lodging...like Hotel Limelight in Kudal village. One or two nights per destination would be ideal.

Choose your food wisely. I want to go to a respectable sit-down restaurant with made-to-order dishes. I will ask them to serve it nice and steaming hot. If they refuse, I will find somewhere else to eat. My tolerance for hunger is pretty high, and the less you eat, the more vigorously your stomach acid will attack the food, which ensures that you won't get sicky sick when you eat a bad meal - only a little queasy and gurgly.

India is extremely overcrowded, especially in the northern plains. The western coast is much better than the Eastern coast. Himalayas are fine as well.

Tech parks don't represent the reality on the streets. Some cities are worse than others. Gurgaon near Delhi has a lot of nice tech parks, malls and private condominiums but right outside them are heaps of garbage, cows and retarded Pajeets doing retarded shit. There are some nice areas in South Delhi and near the airport and that's it. Rajasthan has great forts and heritage hotels. Agra is a complete shithole except the Taj Mahal. In the South, Kerala and Goa are alright with less Pajeetery than the north. Tech cities like Bangalore and Hyderabad have some modern stuff and better than the northern cities. Mumbai is tolerable except in the Monsoon season. North east India is completely different with a mongoloid populace and diverse cultures.
