Pretty based and will do. My friend said that the experience was roughly on par with fighting for him in terms of intensity, albeit obviously in a different way. Just got back from Thailand yesterday, first ever visit.

Bangkok was overall good. I had an amazing hotel, weather held up decently, good food, and plenty of stuff to do - I saw all the important temples, the palace, museums, muay thai fights, malls, markets, King Power, whatever.

Cowboy was a dud, I was expecting a lavish buffet of absolute debauchery, but what I got was a tiny little street that I can walk up and down in two minutes with mostly mid-looking girls trying to physically wrestle me into their establishments. I understand that it's low season but still. I also noticed tons of Euro families with their kids strolling through the place like it was a mall promenade. Weird. Nana was better but still more compact than I had imagined. Khao San sketched me out when I was there during the day, I didn't bother to stick around after sunset.

As for the shows themselves, another meh. Mostly just girls standing around on stage with their tits out. I live in Japan, I've been to many spots with the same vibe minus the barfine system - here if you're lucky you can get a dancer to meet you for free. The MTR and Skytrain are wonderful but the stops are so far from almost anything of interest that I suspect the taxi drivers and tuktuk operators got together and racketeered them when they were being built.

Chaing Mai was boring, with the exception of the elephant sanctuary tour which was awesome. If I'm going somewhere to chill I need a beach rather than weed and coffeeshops. My fault for not researching the vibes better. In retrospect, I had a decent hotel here but maybe because my BKK hotel was SO good it felt kind of shit in comparison; that might be dampening my outlook a bit. Food in BKK was better.

I have nothing but good things to say about the Thai people. I deeply admire how proud they are of their country and their identity.

If all is well and good, I'd like to do maybe a week in Phuket, or some mix of Bangkok high life and Phuket beach bumming next year.

You search for "Hotels" and nothing shows up, but when you arrive in town, there's a pleasant guesthouse on every block. It's a huge step behind most of the world in terms of globohomo modernization. Room furnishings are beautiful handmade wood from local forests, not plastic crap from a big corporation. Instead of the ritual formal courtesies of Thailand, your presence garners genuine reactions from the locals.
