In 2025, virtually every country in the world, that isn't a war zone or authoritarian regime, has some tourists.
As for where to go, depends what kinda Asia you want. If you want that East Asian culture, I'd suggest Laos, or Bhutan if you can get it. If you consider west Asia too, I'd suggest Kazakhstan, or Oman honestly, if you consider Middle East to be the Asia you're looking for.

average filipino talks at a level comparable to a middle school child i.e. a retard. it's "speaks english" tier. malaysians do it better, even if their frequency of being grade school fluent is lower. i'd rather have 30% of people speaking english than 80% "speaking english".

While I do have some very fluent friends, they are clustered in manila + a pinch in cebu + a sprinkle in little surf spots like la union. it's not like I can go throughout the whole country and have a conversation beyond what sport we playing, where I'm from, what I ate, etc.

I'd be curious if your experience is actually different. maybe I somehow didn't make the right inroads outside of the cities in those years or I'm just looking for elevated conversation

Actually, the Philippines has a high cost of living compared to their neighbors. Vietnam and Thailand is several times cheaper than the Philippines.

It's mostly due to the Philippines geography THO. Utilities and Food is easier to connect and grow in Vietnam or Thailand as they're are just one landmass with alot of flat arable land, whereas the Philippines is mostly fragented mountainous volcanic islands with very little farmland. Naturally transportation and utilities plust food would be more expensive in the Philippines than in Vietnam and Thailand; since there are barely any farmland in the Philippines since the mountains block the way and travel and utilities would be far more expensive in disconnected islands in the Philippines than the one connected landmass of Thailand or Vietnam.
