Edinburgh is one of the most overrated and overpriced destinations in Europe. How did this place become such a meme? Its very small and the parts anyone would ever give a shit about are infinitesimal
Anonymous No.2820074 [Report]
Europe as a whole is overrated and overpriced. You can see way better shit in SEA for a fraction of the price.

Going to Europe for towns is retardpilled. If you're seeing anything but nature, you're wasting your time.

I have no idea. I think most tours of the UK get marketed as just London + Edinburgh to everyone
it's not famous from tv or film or books, no big events or anything happens there, I think the only draw is the architecture and ”vibes"
I used to work in a jewellery shop on the royal mile and some of the people told me they had been to Edinburgh six times. All of the stuff in that shop was imported from China and marked up 10x but tourists bought so much of it.

The US has better nature than Europe. Our cities are the reason to come
Anonymous No.2820157 [Report]

This. The fact that average European buildings are older than the US is part of the appeal. Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, pretty much all of Alaska, etc all mog the ever living shit out of anything in Europe.

Our cities though are pretty much copy paste outside of a handful

It's the photo you've posted. On a pleasant evening, it can be made to look very grand.
It has its charms, and some history, but I always thought it seemed like quite a bland place. Beyond the Royal Mile and castle it's not exactly rich in things to see or do.

I know London gets memed on and it definitely has some shithole areas, but for history, architecture and, frankly, importance it absolutely mogs Edinburgh.

European cities and towns are beautiful. However, it's fair to say that going to Scotland for its towns is retardpilled. Go to Scotland for nature and golfing. They have some of the world's best golf courses. It's where the game was originally invented.
Anonymous No.2820341 [Report] >>2820691
>>2820330
Even going for the nature is absurd, given how deforested and manmade the landscape is. There are some fantastic golf courses though, that's for sure.

In terms of towns, urban environments, grand monuments, etc then Scotland is definitely lacking and it becomes very obvious once you cross the border into England or take the ferry to Ireland

I visited Edinburgh on one of my UK trips almost ten years ago. I happened to be in Manchester and thought
>hmm I believe today I will take a train to Scotland, why not?
I had only ever heard in extremely brief passing that Edinburgh was “nice”. I had just thought I’m here in Britain, figure I’ll check out Scotland. This was in August and when I arrived in Edinburgh it was packed to the brim cause of the Fringe festival. I had no idea what the hell it was, had never heard of this alleged worlds largest performing arts festival.

The same applies to most continental churches tbf. You'll find a 13th century core with an 18th century facade, but the guidebooks will claim it's 6th century just because a basilica happened to have stood there once

So it's less developed than England or Ireland. That's not necessarily a negative. Lack of forest means beautiful vistas for all those miles of coastline. The single-track country roads look like a lot of fun to drive, and there's so many beautiful spots along the coast that are worth a walk.

Edinburgh, despite being insufferable when mass tourist season happens, is actually one of the most soulful major cities in the British isles. There’s a ton of little side streets to venture around, some more urbanite areas for those into urban exploration, tons of parks including Arthur’s Seat being an extinct volcano thats a fun 2 hour hike, and you got the Port of Leith and small pebble beaches to walk across. On top of that a lot of the pubs and restaurants food are actually pretty good and the selection of good liquor and fresh produce is very good for a British city.
Also the footy matches aren’t overpriced because nobody cares about Scottish football so you can get SOVL experiences chanting with drunken locals at a Hearts or Hibs match.
