You are really hurting yourself by restricting yourself to the North Island when NZ is already not really a major cultural destination. At the very least you should be open to staying in different cities even if you don't want to get the ferry south.
>Maori stuff/springs around Rotorua
>Surfing at Gisbourne
>beach stuff and chilling out pretty much anywhere on the north island
>Rangitoto Island (day trip from Auckland)
>Wellington national museum (te papa) will take about a day to do properly, cleaning up the rest of the museums would be another day.
>Hamilton to see the Gardens and maybe the zoo
Anonymous No.2823216 [Report]
>>2822940
Te Papa was fucking cool as fuck when I went 15 years ago, not sure what it's like now though.

Thanks it's in October, will there be time to swim? Also after doing Tongario I actually think I could drive down to Wellington, can I put the car on a ferry?

So I've got 4 days post Tongario and yeah Wellington way or Commandrel way

>it's in October, will there be time to swim?
Honestly October is pushing it, if you're very lucky then there might be a few warm days but probably not to the level a casual swimmer would like
>Also after doing Tongario I actually think I could drive down to Wellington, can I put the car on a ferry?
Yes
>In Wellington, the vehicle terminal for Interislander is at Wellington Vehicle Check-In, Aotea Quay, Pipitea, Wellington. For Bluebridge, the vehicle terminal (same as the passenger terminal) is at 50 Waterloo Quay, Pipitea, Wellington.

Why do you need to fill your itinerary? You have a car. Spend your days driving around and doing whatever you want. Pay attention to your surroundings, stop to look over the map every fifteen miles or so to see if you're passing by anything cool.

Because I have mental disorder about not wasting my holidays because they are the only times I live and I like to user a spreadsheet.

>>2823335
We might be onto something, skip commandrel and bay of islands and drive to wellington and put my car on a boat and hit the south Island?
Anonymous No.2824837 [Report]
One more bump, have decided I am staying on the North Island the whole time, now the question is, where to from Tongario.

>>2823374
How is doing what you want when you want to do it a "waste"? If anything, having a holiday as full of to-do tasks as your workweek is a waste of your (very limited) freedom.
Anonymous No.2825885 [Report]
Anyone want to meet up or be friends or?

That's the way I operate but also I am Aussie so can always come back if I fuck up, I tend to without a plan be largely indolent though and spend too much time on my phone as opposed to exploring a country

I hope it's not too late to recommend stuff.

Take the boat and hike up Rangitoto
Do the wine tour on the wine island in the Auckland Sound I forget the name of

And have many, many flat whites, the best coffee on earth

Thank you, I start my heavy planning tomorrow. and yes other than maybe the a few historical sites outdor activities do seem to dominate.

>>2827397
Rangitoto is actually perfect for my last day when I gotta fly out and keep my car close to Auckland airport, I have added flat whites to my list along with dairy food and hokey pokey, any other little local gems? I am Aussie so I know about Whittakers

Has anyone ever hiked Tongario, I am decently fit, RHR 57 but I am still pretty nervous about doing it alone in mid to lateish October

Waitakere Ranges vs Treaty Grounds and Bay of Islands

So this battles it out for the last day...

I've chosen Commandel over the Bay of Islands for hikes and the Cathedral cove, good choice?
Anonymous No.2830076 [Report]
I chose Commandel.

We're down to the last day and it's

Rangitoto vs Waitākere Ranges. I have a car.

kiwi from sth island acting as thread necromancer

the war museum near tongariro is great, as is tongariro itself of course. that whole volcanic area around taupo and rotorua really

what did u think of hobbiton? for me it felt like the 9th circle of hell but maybe foreign tourists have a higher tolerance for that kind of thing.

I hope you chose rangitoto, listen to the other guy and spend time in the hauraki gulf. auckland is a pretty scuffed city but the hauraki nearby is the best weather, fishing, beaches etc in the whole country
Anonymous No.2837798 [Report]
>>2837648
Hey mate, OP here I chose Waitakere Ranges outside Auckland over Rangitoto as I'd done Volcanoes around Taupo, Tongario etc... I am Aussie so I'll be back anyway. Yeah the cities are nothing to chat about but the natural environment and relative uncrowdedness and beauty really is something.

I liked Hobbiton, it's good for your country, more internationals crowding and spending money there then anywhere else I saw but yeah it is a tourist trap but some of them you have to do, eg: Kyoto in Japan. Hobbiton in NZ
