Not if you're one of those "the only people worth speaking to speak English" kind of travelers.

Russia is like Poland, but a whole lot bigger, grumpier, more corrupt and more dilapidated. There's a whole lot of natural beauty to be discovered in all that vastness, but almost every foreigner who has gone solo exploring in middle-of-nowhere Russia has gotten into trouble with the authorities. Russians are paranoid and insecure by nature. On top of all that, prices in Russia have been rising dramatically as Putin diverts the nation's productivity into an endless war. Don't expect Russia to be the bargain that it was just a few years ago...but seeing as all of Europe has also seen dramatic price increases in the past half decade, Russia may very well remain the cheapest "European" country to visit.

I'm Greek-American and would like to visit Russia eventually. I'm guessing if I do I should just tell everyday Russians that I am Greek and pretend I have nothing to do with the frothing Russia hating white Americans?

My cousin speaks russian and said it was fine to visit until recently, but recently it has become more likely that the police will pick you up off the street for draft dodging the russian military

Definitely! I watch 50 pro-Russia Youtubers and 20 of them were killed by Russia because they were tourists there even when they talk about Russia positively. Also 4 of them were jailed, one get away with a US lawyer and said never going there again.

Pretty sure they do have conscription, but it's mostly just training/support roles, they don't get sent to the front
