Things to do in Ho Chi Minh? Already did most of the tourist stuff but doing the chi chi tunnels tomorrow. Any other ideas? Any advice for how to connect better with locals? Seems like the language barrier is pretty strong in Vietnam.

not talking about the war. american IDP isn't technically valid, cop will fine you or confiscate bike.
but they probably won't stop you, and just want bribe. depends if OP wants to chance it or not. worth it though

You'll be fine. I rented out a bike in Da Nang for several days and drove to Hoi An and Hue. Don't give them a reason to pull you over and wear your helmet.

What makes you think Viets want to socialize with you? They only want your money. If you want to connect better, do more business with them.
2 weeks ago I had 4 days in Saigon, wanna know what I did? I did the tunnels on 1 day then sat on the toilet for the remaining days watching netflix because the food fucked me up so bad. My stomach was already fucked and I was taking a walk and saw 3 separate human poo's on the ground (different locations) and then I saw some viet washing some food in the street gutter (I am assuming for one of the one million street vendor spots)

You haven't seen dishes done in a dirty pail next to the gutter before? Pretty standard for street food vendors in Asian cities. Spring rolls can easily make you sick, as bacteria multiply on the ingredients inside.
Whats an absolute must do in vietnam? I'm already doing a cruise in ha long bay, sa pa, some stuff on the south like the war tunnels but need more tips

I prefer to call it Saigon (the locals still do), Ho-Chi Min doesn't really roll of the tongue. How much do you have to love yourself to name a city after yourself?
