I'm really just jealous.
I tried for that for more than 10 years including time spent (wasted) in school, but the high paying, full remote, international jobs are awfully hard to come by and competitive.
Then I even got one! but the project, and its multiple teams, was horrifically dysfunctional, cut throat, stressful, and I kept getting undermined by peasants and finally managed out and laid off.
This happened almost two years ago and I still seethe. I have a pretty solid net worth now, but might try again. Just do my thing in Asia for a while longer then head back for another effort of something like that before I may finally just throw in the towel and henry miller my career.

>I'm just not going to worry about a job for a year or two
Do exactly that. I have about half your money and haven't had any paychecks or unemployment money come in for about a year at this point. My net worth still has only risen since then.
Theoretically I guess I could retire at these expenses, and investment performance, but that still seems like too much uncertainty to can a career when I'm not even 40 yet. Not worried about a sabbatical though. You could very likely just end it though and ride your net worth if you desired and pull the trigger.
