Cool places in London
Going to London with a friend for 3 days. Any cool places (preferrably as tourist-free as possible) you can reccomend? Particulary interested in live music, pubs, casual dining etc.

Hijacking your thread a bit. I'm planning to go to London in December to visit a Christmas market. I know absolutely nothing about London, where to stay, where to stay away from. About the only thing I know is that a phone gets stolen every 5 minutes and that its bollocks expensive. Where's a good area to stay that won't fleece me completely and that I can still get around on public transport without being shanked or robbed?
Also some recommendations please. I like British history and Doctor Who.

Go to The Windmill in Brixton. Usually between a fiver and a tenner a gig. £5/pint. Decent unsigned bands every night. Amazing night out, desu.
It's in the middle of Brixton though, which is boatwog central. Just gtfo asap after the gig and don't hang around.

Public transport is more or less safe desu.

Histoy is ezpz with the fre museums.

you're a tourist, so if you go somewhere it won't be tourist free any more will it
just look at a listings magazine or website like time out or nme

staying anywhere normal in london is expensive
if you're so pathetically scared of being a victim because of the media hysteria you could stay somewhere outside london and just get the train into the city. example, the fairly new queen elizabeth line (colloquially known as the lizzy line) stretches as far as reading at its western end. the cost of the journey would easily be offset by the cheaper accommodation options
>Doctor Who.
there are doctor who walking tours in london and cardiff but you could just get a route map online and follow it yourself
there was a proper "doctor who experience" museum in cardiff but it closed a few years ago. considering that the show is such a massive part of british cultural history (even though the recent series have been shit) it's a shame there isn't a proper studio tour or something apart from temporary exhibitions

For live music, try either the Windmill as one anon said or head to The George Tavern in Shadwell. Always something good to see at either of those, and great sound too. The booker at The George is also one of the last people in London who isn't a totally woke captured freak too.

Other decent live venues (and also quite nice pubs) would be The Victoria and Shacklewell Arms (both in Dalston). It's a bit out of the way but if you can be arsed, Skehan's in Nunhead is a great pub and you're unlikely to see any tourists there. Nunhead/Brockley/New Cross all have some pretty nice restaurants too and are not touristy neighbourhoods at all. Don't go to Peckham, no matter what anybody says. It is still a rancid shithole and always will be.

Public transport is fine. I've lived here for 8 years and never had problems. Just keep your wits about you when it's late, don't engage with weirdos and you'll be fine. Don't put your phone in your back pocket etc etc Can't help you with Doctor Who I'm afraid. All the usual museums are pretty good and free

Where should I find cheap meals in London? Pret a manger deals? Besides Tesco. Any chain restaurants worth eating?
