halloween didn't get "gentrified" or "cracked down on" the japs got spooked by the itaewon crowd crush thing and tried doing crowd control the next year but it totally cucked all the fun street drinking and cosplay and it was just retards looking to party so now they've just shut it down entirely and make you pay for club/bar entry in order to party in shibuya.

i mean, this was just sort of inevitable. the subculture people moved to more suburban locations where they could keep getting away with being degenerates away from tourists, cops, and corpos.
it started happening when they let nightclubs openly operate and stopped messing with them - i remember them fucking with dance clubs as late as 2016.

then all the good clubs got out-competed by venues with actual investment backing them and the seedy meat markets all got raped by covid and the whole area's been fucked ever since.
