How do you meet people abroad? I go to the skatepark, start shooting the shit with folks, buy some beers and then they eventually take me out to the bar or to their moms house for more drinking, I have no idea how I would meet folks if it weren't for skateparks.

Sorry I'm not a Chad.

>How do you meet people abroad?
depends on who you want to meet

group tours are really easy to meet people
but it's gonna be other travelers and the tours themselves are very hit or miss from the actual enjoyment

if you're in your 30s or older and travel without a budget
luxury boutique hotel bars are a really great way
the only 2 long term travel friends I've met in recent years were over cocktails in a small lodge in botswana and in a small hotel in Stockholm

other than that
>hostels if you you're young, read the reviews and specifically search for social ones
>local bars on busy nights (events work best, like halloween just now, as groups are a bit more "loose")
>social events like meetups (though will more likely be expats)
>or if you're into art, go to vernissages!

technically, if you're social and charismatic enough, you can meet people literally anywhere

Should I even bother buying a shinkansen ticket online? Anons on here say they go to the station and still can buy tickets day of, then they spend an hour or so dicking around the station (which is fine).

This doesnt work outside the skatepark community. Actually one time a dude from a hostel invited me to his house when I went to his city

What's a good first time solo travel destination within Europe for January? I'm thinking either Germany or Norway.

Norway is expensive, and brutal in winter.
Germany was my first solo trip and I'd say it's a great place to start. It has literally everything that a traveler could want, history, nature, nightlife, good food, good transportation, good English if you need it, and not too expensive. You can basically get a taste and feel for everything there.

>January
>Norway
Oslo gets like 6h of Daylight with on avg <2h of sunshine per day in January
the further north you go the worse it's gonna get

save Norway for another season
and solo traveling Norway is ROUGH anyway, mostly (old) couples and families, barely any young travelers let alone solo / groups

Germany is really great as first solo travel destination

other easy options in the region would be Netherlands, Belgium, Poland or eastern European capitals
Spain or Croatia are great for party / nightlife but only in Summer

How risky is it to have a layover that's only about an hour long?
My fear is that the first flight gets delayed, and then I'll be in trouble.

What is the optimal travel duration?
Anonymous No.2838221 [Report]

>What is the optimal travel duration?
depends a lot on your travel style
generally 2 weeks is a good recommendation
and no longer than 1 week at one place

personally I like to do 3-4nights at a place than move on
a little longer for some big cities
usually 3-5 locations per vacations
otherwise I get overwhelmed

so optimal for me would be 10-21 days + 2 travel days for flights
which is exactly how I traveled in recent years
typically 2 "big" 2-3week vacations along some extended weekend trips

>How risky is it to have a layover that's only about an hour long?
A bit risky. It depends on how long and frequent the flights to your next destination are. If the next flight is just 2 hours and the airline has 4 more scheduled later that day, just take the next one. If it's a 12 hour flight and only runs once a day I would make sure I have a longer layover and not miss it.

The only time I have had this problem is when traveling through the US. It seems to mean that it is like rolling the dice with ensuring your luggage gets on the plane. I have had less turnarounds in Asian airports and have never had the problem.

Best city break for tinder hook ups in your opinion?
Not paying for prostitutes because I’m not a reprobate. I want an organic human connection, romance, handjobs!
Best city break for this?
Porto? Madrid? Barcelona? Paris? Sarajevo? Athens? Dubrovnik? Budapest?

If you're hot, it really doesn't fucking matter, assuming it's a fairly liberal country. Just pick a city you like or think looks cool.
I'd go Vancouver cuz I like Asian chicks who are also westerners. Also Berlin for alt/punk/goth girls.

Is it fine if i get someone to buy me a plane ticket in another country where it's cheaper? Are the airlines/travel agencies gonna get uppity about the passport's nationality not matching where the flight was purchased?

Example: I live in Calgary, I want to go to Cairo, it's cheaper in the US on Expedia, I get my friend in the US to buy me a ticket that shows up on Expedia US that's cheaper than I would get it in Expedia Canada

This is literally not a problem whatsoever. Lots of people purchase flights outside of their home country. How do you think backpackers go country-hopping all the time?

Hell, you could probably do this yourself if you use a VPN. If you are gonna get your friend to do it, just make sure he's not a dumbass and actually gets your personal information correct.

Not sure what you mean. Are you just confusing currencies maybe? If you want the cheapest ticket then find the cheapest place to fly out from, and take indirect flights. Maybe another airport than Calgary, that's still reachable to you, will have cheaper flights.
>>2838453
The VPN thing is a myth. Airlines ticket prices do not change depending on where the buyer is connecting from. I don't know about third party aggregator sites but I doubt that either.

Anon thinks purchasing plane tickets in another country will save him money. You say that ticket prices don't change based on location, so either way this whole idea of his is a bust.

I just checked trip com and it is cheaper but not by much, maybe by like $100 at the very most
