It's honestly exactly as good as people actually say it is, in that it's a very solid show overall with much higher quality writing and directing than is typical of TV in general and a good amount of variety of scenarios, but the actual mob drama stuff is gimmicky and there's no overall 'goal' of the show, which will disappoint people expecting that.

It isn't a show about having having a cohesive narrative that aims to tie up events and themes in a well planned out way, and you kind of have to accept that it's a 'seasonal' show in the the way that American dramas normally are and essentially a kind of elevated soap opera with really interesting characterization that goes into aspects of life a soap opera wouldn't.
