>>211374386 (OP)Superman, like Batman, only works as an expression of it´s setting. He really can´t be who he needs to be without the city of tomorrow, without that believe in progress and in the future. It was that exaggerated naive optimism that´s inherently tied to the mentality of the American way what allowed him to be inspiring in the first place.
All the other heroes always followed him not because he was the most powerful but because he had an unwavering will to fight for what was morally right without compromising. That´s Superman. He is the light that leads all men to do better. Like it or not that´s the character.
Now, i´ve seen Gunn´s trailers and he just does not respect that; at all. I´d say that "human way" thing even goes against it. Superman is meant to inspire humanity to be better than what it is, to go beyond, to break through. Tarantino was right when he described Superman in Kill Bill, Superman is Superman and Clark Kent is the disguise, the costume he uses to blend in and pass as human, the pathetic insecure coward. A more human Superman would defy the purpose. If god is not greater than life itself, if he is just another stranger on the bus, if he follows the human way and it´s petty and prone to anger or personal gain then he can´t lead. And that´s the Superman Gunn shows us, he constantly gets his ass kicked and the other heroes hold no respect for him. That´s not Superman.
