The reason Alice is the main character in the Resident Evil franchise is to avoid using one of the characters from the games because they are owned by Capcom and come with a lot of red tape. It's weird that 23 years later, people are still confused about why Resident Evil movies, including the upcoming reboot by Zach Cregger, have original protagonists.

Anything those characters do has to be signed off by Capcom. If they say a character can't be used, they can't be used. If they say a character can't be gay, they can't be gay. If they say a character can't have sex, or have nude scenes, then they can't.

You take Jill, rename her Alice, and all those restrictions are gone. There's zero downsides to doing this.

I used to watch those garbage ass Resident Evil movies that only retards like while I lied in bed with my ex-girlfriend in her little apartment at college. They’re hard to watch now even though years have gone by. I've found another woman and I love her, even dated her longer at this point, but it's not the same. I'll never know the passion that I felt with my first love again, and I guess I'm alright with that. Smile that it happened as they say. The main character is Alice because of ego. It wasn't enough for Anderson to make a Resident Evil movie, he had to put his stamp on it with his OC. After a few of the movies he even asked Capcom to introduce Alice into the game series, but was laughed at.

This never happened. More to the point, Capcom don't own Alice. They don't want to pay royalties. That's why they have multiple Alice ripoffs that they own.

What do you mean? They didn't want to use Jill because Capcom own Jill. It's the same reason the new Zach Cregger film has Bryan instead of any of the characters from the games.

It's not complicated. Nobody wants to make an RE film with characters like Leon and Jill and so on.
