if you like Rohmer then definitely check out Mia Hansen-Love. their style is very similar (and she's an incredible director in general). start with her best movie: Father of My Children (2009)

Zoomers and Late Millennials be wilding and calling movies from the 90s 'old'. Jokes aside now, you should try watching some. Old but gold as they say. I remember watching Sherlock Jr., a +100 years old movie, and being in awe at how entertaining and well-made it was despite being so fucking old.

>which movies by Allen and Anderson have you seen?
Admittedly, none. I've only caught glimpses. Those gave me the impression that Allen is highly neurotic and Anderson very effeminate with coloring choices and a symmetry fetish I disapprove of.
>are you not a fan of comedies in general?
There's something to that. I do like authentic, spontaneous comedy or something that is neither too blunt nor overconstructed to the point of getting hard to follow. Can't say I've found said something in movie shape yet.
>I'll take that as a compliment

I figure it's fine as long as the emotional woes accompanying such a condition don't prevent you from taking necessary action.

Watch "The Life Aquatic" by Wes Anderson. It has his sentimentality and irreverent/"quirky" comedy but it's also about aging, masculine self-doubt, fatherhood, kinship, revenge, purpose, overcoming.

Basically the entire major cast is also firing at 100. God tier stuff by Owen Wilson, Bill Murray, Dafoe, Goldblum, Blanchette. Oh and a fucking incredible original soundtrack by Mark Mothersbaugh, it's so fucking good. It's funny as fuck too when it's not heartwrenching.
Anonymous No.211385244 >>211385707

you're not wrong about either of them. with Woody Allen it's part of the appeal, at least for me. with Wes it's an issue that he's had since Rushmore but the great writing (especially with Owen Wilson as his co-writer) more than makes up for it.

I don't even mind capeshit much but why those in particular? They're colorless, shallowly written and poorly directed. From what I can tell Joe and Anthony Russo don't have a single original bone in their body and are likely the highest-paid hacks ever.

is the filmography of Park Chan Wookie some sort of meme among Gen Alpha "film enthusiasts"? Oldboy is well known and has always historically been parroted around and brought up as the best thing ever, or did for a long time, but Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, Mr. Vengeance and Thirst are all better films and not brought up half as often.
