The show really doesnt follow the books that much, core plot but even that gets dropped eventually. The writing quality is so much worse in.the show.you might not be able continue watching it if you read the books first.
Also when you read book 4&5 use a fan pdf like ball of beasts, they combine the books as they were written (as one novel) and it fixes the pacing issues.

Why did people like Edward Stark and Bobby Baratone allow Walter Frey to remain in power?
