Yes and it was always done in a way that you could make your own assumption instead of being told what to feel.
I'm rewatching Nu-Who at the moment and I'm currently on S2 E3 "School Reunion". It's very camp and obviously cheaply shot but it has so much soul.

When is someone going to explain to the Master that the Timelords killed the Timeless Child in the Confession Dial years ago and everything post Heaven Sent is just the adventures of the clone named Valeyard.
I'm interested in /who/ culture but what this general has become has nothing to do with culture. This place is an asylum for lonely and depressed social rejects who furiously refresh their half dozen 4chan tabs while watching reruns of shows they're nostalgic about, and then getting an endorphine rush when some other lonely and depressed social reject decides to post inane nonsense that says absolutely nothing. Because the purpose of these exchanges is not saying anything meaningful or insightful or funny, it's just to simulate some kind of interaction so you feel less inclined to kill yourself due to your lack of life.
>>211383292Does that matter? Everything past End of Time Part 2 is just a dying Doctor hallucinating after he became irreparably damaged from the radiation that was prophesised to kill him.

This is Emergency Programme One. Anon, now listen, this is important. If this message is posted, then it can only mean one thing. We must be in danger, and I mean fatal. /who/'s dead or about to die any second with no chance of escape. And I bet you're fussing and moaning now, typical. But hold on and just read a bit more.
/who/ can never return for us. Emergency Programme One means we're facing an autist that should never get their hands on this general. So this is what you should do:
Let /who/ die.
Just let this shit thread gather dust. No one can bump it. No one'll even notice it. Let it become a strange little thing standing in an archive. And over the years, the board'll move on and the thread will be buried. And if you want to remember /who/, then you can do one thing. That's all, one thing.
Have a good life. Do that for /who/, Anon. Have a fantastic life.

I rewatched some NuWho and firmly convinced that when they're at the top of their game, both RTD and Moffat make better television than 90% of other western writers. >>211386609Disney paid for loads of pro-prequel articles to be made prior to the sequels coming out to reinvigorate interest in the series. >>211386826RTD2 could have undone or just ignored Timeless Child, he didn't. Bigeneration is just as equal if not arguably worse than Bigeneration. Pretty much everyone thinks the Doctor being Billie Piper is an awful decision. There is also plenty of 'small' things you can level at RTD2 that just all add up. >>211386908I don't think he'll ever top The Parting of the Ways, or Bad Wolf even. I'd like to think every episode might randomly be amazing still.
>>211386937neither do the prequels but that doesn't stop retards from glazing them and pretending like they're misunderstood masterpieces and not just 2 hour special effects bonanzas interspliced with some of the most boring, badly written, badly acted, stilted, wooden scenes between actors mechanically reciting words from a script with no real direction

>>211386967RTD2 has episodes that are worth watching unlike Jodie's era. It feels like the people saying that it's worse than Chibnall are the people who skipped Chibnall. And honestly, RTD basically has ignored the Timeless Child. He put in some lipservice about it at the beginning but the line that always gets pushed is that the Doctor is a timelord from the planet Gallifrey. And bi-generation is fan wanky at worst, in practice it's just another Doctor that's around that just like how there are probably hundreds of Doctors on Earth at one time that it's very rare that the Doctor would ever cross into his own timeline.
Really, the biggest problem with RTD2 is that it feels like an old man who doesn't quite understand anything recent with how it handles it's politics. Even to someone to tries to stay out of that shit like me, it's a little obvious that he doesn't quite know what he's doing in that regard. The prime exhibit being TRose where he does a decent job with the home drama but then completely shits the bed with the non-binary shit, and just having TRose exist as a character to say that trannies are persecuted. And you can tell it's definitely him struggling to fit in because I don't think anyone genuinely embedded in those beliefs would have the Doctor enable a cosmic rape and not treat it as the morally grey at best thing it is. Even his Dot and Bubble script is obviously repurposed from the residents of that planet not wanting the Doctor's help because he's a nut case non-conformist and not racism because it was a story written for 11.
>>211387365Why is it that when remembering nuWho I always forget that Father's Day exists?
Anyone else have the same phenomena? Or maybe for you it's a different episode?
>>211387488Nah it's dogshit. Pigshit? No, series 9 is much worse.
In the Chibnall vs RTD2 debate I would say there is simply more issues with RTD2: how it is S1 despite relying on things from both Nu & Classic and how it is that poorly explained new viewers are going to be confused, Tennant coming back and now Piper as the Doctor; Undoing Donna's story; Male presenting Time Lord; 'Rose'; the way Ruby and Belinda are poorly handled; the handling of returning characters of Toymaker, Sutekh, Omega, and Susan; stuff about the Pantheon; Space Babies; Planet of the Incels; How UNIT is handled; Bigeneration; Timeless Child remaining. And all this is over 3 specials and 14 stories with Gatwa. With Chibnall the two big things are female Doctor (even at the time I felt that was an inherently bad idea) that did nothing with the concept and Timeless Child, but a lot his era is just bland and more incompetence compared to RTD2 that is 'fuck you audience'.

If Doctor Who is cancelled it'll never come back, because Television is going the way of the dodo. It's going to be replaced by a bunch of on-demand streaming services, podcasts and Ai generated 24/7 news.
The old world will die, and be replaced by absolute fucking slop. Accept it.

>>211387454seems like another Marilyn Manson thing where a bunch of jilted exes get together to shake him down for more money. the difference is Manson just dated some of those women and they were just like normal women minus their BPD, he didn't have a partner going out of their way to find homeless women with several mental illnesses to groom them into fucking him like Gaiman did. but he's not really responsible for that either, at least not solely, his ex-wife seemed to get off on the whole thing as well but she's being allowed to throw him entirely under the bus for it all even though she was the one recruiting the women for him lol.
>>211387917I fucking love the first episode of The Web Planet, it's total atmospheric kino. Then it all falls down in the second episode when it gets stupid and silly. Shame.
>>211387241It was probably still salvageable after Chibs left, provided that whoever replaced him knew what they were doing.
I think the damage is too extensive now, though. Too much other stuff has been added on top of TTC (bigeneration, Tennant 2, gods, magic, skeleton Omega, Billie Piper, etc). Whoever comes next as showrunner would inherit an even bigger mess than RTD did in 2022.
>>211387738It's a case where I agree with the message to an extent but it could have used a little more nuance.
>>211387823hopefully by that point AI has progressed to the point to where a group of anons could get together to collectively create some kino
>>211387763>That Dracula thing really pissed me off. It's hilarious how that show was a microcosm showing off his problems with pulling off endings. Starts out with his take on Dracula, it's pretty good. Second episode does the same on the boat, it's pretty good again. At this point it could have been remembered as a good miniseries adaptation that did its own thing if he pulled off the last episode. Instead he decided to blow our minds with a twist ending where there's a time skip to the current day and Dracula is being arrested by a secret organisation that have been waiting for him to show up for the last 200 years and you're meant to go "holy shit what" in typical Moffat fashion. Then the third episode just goes completely full fucking retard by having him immediately escape those guys, only to then get caught once again, but then he hacks the wifi in his holding cell by guessing that the password is Dracula and calls a fucking lawyer that shows up and threatens the secret organisation with the cops if they don't release the immortal serial killer and they just fucking do it, and that's it for the whole secret organisation angle to the story. Now we're just back to retelling Dracula with him wooing Lucy but it's set in the modern day for no fucking reason and Quincy doesn't even get to chop his head off.
Classic Moffat.

>>211387963Her best book? I love And Then There Were None, also The ABC Murders.
>>211388068yeah it really does go back and forth in terms of quality but i give the actors credit for giving it their all despite how utterly retarded the premise is, having other actors in these giant ant shells pretending to fight you. to me that's the essence of Who, such a silly premise being sold as a life or death situation, a huge idea constrained by the shoestring budget the show often had but they still give it their all and try to bring it to life. it's not giant CGI monsters and mystery boxes, no matter how much RTD tries to make it so.

I'd bet money that in 5 years the BBC will do this exact thing as an official release, though.
Look at thos horrible fucking remasters they did recently, The Daleks in colour and all that shite. That was fucking bad enough, so chances are there's nothing stopping them going down this route- certainly not taste

>>211388280>certainly not tasteDoctor Who itself is a acquired taste. You have to accept a lot of shit to tolerate it. Especially Clasic Who.
>>211388312Then they should cut back on the new content or go low/mid budget for most of them. Gotta do what you can to make a profit.

>>211382744>Another non straightYes
>whiteNo
>male doctor No
>will kill the showLook, I have no problems with women doctors, or doctors of color. I wouldn't have a problem with the doctor being gay or bi, but it's clear they have no idea how to write fags respectfully and with taste and class, and only know how to fetishize one's sexuality. So keep the doctor straight, simple as. And the other requirement is also simple. Make the doctor's actor or actress attractive. If it's a male, make him be more masculine. Something the women'll find attractive, but the men won't find intimidating (since fucking onions faggots infest the fandom now) and would look up to/respect. If it's a woman, same thing but in reverse. Hot take, but Piper is fine, cherrypicked bogging pics aside. It's fine if the doctor takes on a darker tone, too, or if they decide the doctor should be quirky, it's entirely possible to do that (troughton) without making them retarded (jodie) cringelords that make you want to find the nearest rope. For fucks sake, it's like people forgot that you can diversity cast without choosing the ugliest, cringiest, or most flamboyant stereotype person to cast. Remember when people were cast based on their ability, and their characters were defined by their actions, not the color of their skin or their sexuality? Just let the fucking doctor be cool again. Write a normal fucking person for once, rather than a god damn caricature.

5pm Announcement today is Smith & Kingston ( This wont be announced at all but John Barrowman is joining them, Russel seems to have worked things out between him and BBC) doing a special for 60th
Tomorrow is the announcement of Capaldi doing one with Matt Lucas and Wednesday they confirm Tennant, Smith, Capaldi, Jodie & McGann are in the actual 60th.
Thursday they will announce that in 2023 McGann will be starring in a 10 episode 20 minutes or less per episode mini-series with a self contained story that takes place over the 10 episodes that connects with the last 2 episodes
but up until then you think each episode is random. I've heard it described as a clever Doctor who Anthology series.
No word on who his companion/s are/will be.
Friday is a big one, they announce that in 2023 we will be getting a new season of Torchwood and if it does well
enough with the fans then it will be properly back. Russel apparently has big plans for Jack if all goes to plan. he will use the new season as a sort of soft reboot of the show.
Jo Grant is getting a show for 2024 that will be all about her, UNIT and the return of K9! Luke and the gang from Sarah Jane Adventures is set to show up though it may just be for a couple episodes. This is meant to appeal to the younger audience, though things are going to start connecting a lot more so is recommended to be watched even as an adult.
>>211388849They won't even be able to make the kids show right. Wouldn't even be hard to make a kids show that adults could enjoy, see Star Trek Prodigy. Extremely underrated and slept on because "Hurr durr kids show", "Hurr durr nuTrek", "Hurr durr the characters look dumb and kiddy", etc. yet it was a very solid Voyager sequel. Everyone was fantastic, and even Beltran took his role seriously, rather than phone it in like he did in season 7. Was really fun to have him back and actually care about the show. I'd love if they pulled a PROD on us, but we just can't have nice things anymore.

>>211388974Mostly peaceful refugees fleeing IsRutan oppression from the planet Sontar gangrape the Doctor's companion and then the Doctor uses his regeneration energy to burn them alive.
>>211388974it would have to be a story more about the Sontaran war machine inadvertently causing the Doctor to be fatally injured, rather than a Sontaran directly doing it. they're meant to be bumbling, they're only threatening as an armada.
>>211389153>IsRutanhang on...
>>211388974Rather than create some mass-stakes galactic conflict event, I would be tempted to make it small-scale. Have a single Sontaran in command of some non-Sontaran forces, but unlike The Time Warrior his forces are actually competent and it is all down to him. The threat comes from his skill in tactics and strategy as opposed to just something like 'the Sontarans have a billion ships' or the 'the Sontarans have some doomsday weapon.' Have this Sontaran involved in what is a sideshow to a sideshow in Sontaran-Rutan War, with the Doctor caught up in what is a minor conflict in the grand scheme of the conflict but for those involved massive.

>>211388974Realtalk: Sontarans aren't really that interesting as a serious villain. They should probably be a 2000AD style parody of military pomposity.
Make an episode that plays on the concept of them having a recruiting crisis, but it's like the AI's that run their clone vats are refusing to cooperate, or something.
Make an episode where Sontarans are worried about getting phased out by drones, because it robs them of their warrior glory.

>>211389238the idea of a Sontaran finding real glory and triumph outside of the actual Sontaran armada is also kind of interesting, would raise questions about them being bumbling and ineffective as a group, or how the bureaucracy of the Sontarans holds them back from being an effective fighting force. maybe someone like Strax who was exiled/punished for some misdeed, but like his opposite where instead he finds a new outlet for war and revels in it.
