I do not like The Big Sleep. It's shot too flatly for a film noir and Hawks focusing entirely on the bickering and romance makes it obvious that he'd rather work on screwball comedies. It also cuts all the seedy stuff from the novel.

This one is fantastic. A young Bogie, Betty Davis, and Ashley from GWTW who was an underrated actor. Great story and great film.

The problem with watching Casablanca first is every Bogart film noir afterwards I just think this is alright but it would be better if it was Casablanca.
