this is a really great film despite targeting a child/family audience. its funny, has great animation and art direction, amazingly choreographed action, a touching and engaging story with strong characters and arcs, good music

im not big on the sequels either. but admittedly thats largely because the first is such a strong, focused film that delivers on all fronts with zero fluff, so trying to expand on it is an exercise in futility. Poโ€™s backstory and random supervillains of the week just arent very interesting and not necessary. I still remember some good action, particularly in 3, but not as good as 1. never watched 4, probably never will

The directors and story writers of the first movie (Stevenson/Osborne/Reiff/Voris) didn't come back for the sequels, and it shows

I can understand making sequels to Shrek and Madagascar, but Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon didn't need them

I'm so glad that DreamWorks never made any sequels of Antz. It's a great movie that works perfectly as a stand-alone work

It's a shame how DreamWorks cancelled that "CGI adventure movie about elephants on southest Asia with Morgan Freeman and Jodie Foster voicing the protagonists" that they were developing in 1999-2001. It looked promising

Shark Tale isn't as bad as critics say. When all is said and done, it accomplishes its goal of being an entertaining PG comedy that makes good use of the impressive voice cast and music artists that they hired for it

Antz is not exactly a movie aimed at children. Gotta wonder how it avoided a PG-13 rating

The first Shrek movie is a 10/10 in every aspect (storyline, pacing, dialogue, humor, balance between comedy/seriousness, voice acting, editing, cinematography, state-of-the-art CGI, character designs, environments, facial/body language, orchestral score, lyrical songs)

Agreed; I dread the day when they do a live action remake of it
Both peach tree scenes with Master Oogway are kino as fuck

>Master! Master!
>Hmmm?
>I have... it's... it's very bad news
>Ah, Shifu. There is just news. There is no good or bad
>Master, your vision...your vision was right! Tai Lung has broken out of prison! He's on his way!
>....That is bad news... if you do not believe that the Dragon Warrior can stop him
>The panda? Master, that panda is not the Dragon Warrior. He wasn't even meant to be here... it was an accident!
>There are no accidents
>Yes, I know. You've said that already. Twice
>Well, that was no accident either
>Thrice
>My old friend, the panda will never fulfill his destiny, nor you yours, until you let go of the illusion of control
>Illusion?
>Yes. Look at this tree, Shifu. I cannot make it blossom when it suits me, nor make it bear fruit before its time
>But there are things we can control. I can control when the fruit will fall. And I can control where to plant the seed. That is no illusion, Master!
>Ah, yes. But no matter what you do, that seed will grow to be a peach tree. You may wish for an apple, or an orange... but you will get a peach
>But a peach cannot defeat Tai Lung!
>Maybe it can. If you are willing to guide it, to nurture it. To believe in it
>But how? How? I need your help, Master
>No, you just need to believe. Promise me, Shifu. Promise me you will believe
>I... I will try

Why couldn't the sequels have the same quality writing?

>How he defeats Tai Lung? Because heโ€™s magically resistant to all of his attacks lol
Is this a satisfying conclusion?
