I can see this applying to music and maybe books and video-games, but I struggle to imagine being unable to appreciate a competently written, acted, and shot film regardless of how shitty I feel. take a mediocre blockbuster for example, nothing egregiously offensive but also nothing really stand out about it
you first see it in an IMAX theater or Dolby Cinema, you're going to rate it differently than if you first watched it on Netflix on your phone

False. I'm a huge fan of bad movies. Samurai Cop, The Room, a lot of the movies the MSTK3/Rifftrax guys mock are comfy and enjoyable enough without the added commentary... But some movies are just bad. For example, 007: Quantum of Solace is just plain bad. The action, the dialogue, the plot the hyper fast editing and shaky camera: all of these elements come together to make the movie an unenjoyable watch. When I'm in a good mood, Samurai Cop makes me smile and laugh, And when I'm in a bad mood it always cheers me up. On the other hand, I could be the happiest man on earth and Quantum of Solace will always be a horrible movie.

I'm emotionally neutral in all things. I'm able to detect whether things are good or bad with machine-like precision.
