how long it took you to realize it?
The worst thing about working in an office is FEMALE COWORKERS.
All they do is complain about pointless shit, make drama out of nothing and talk all fucking day. They just never shut up. BLABLABLABLA all day long.
Having an office job in the 1950s/1960s as a guy must have been great.
4 years. Wanted to die because i didn't have a job, Got job and felt like a zombie. Hardly a improvement. Dunno what the fuck is wrong with me but i guess it could be worse.
AHHHHH NOT AN AC MANAGED OFFICE WITH CUBICLES AHHH NO NOT BENEFITS AND A DECENT PAY AIEEEEEEEEEE
>>211408803The worst is having female coworkers who are "devs". I had to ask one to commit the work they did and it took me an hour to convince her she forgot to commit it (didnt even look at her code).
As soon as I asked she claimed I had no idea what I was doing and that I needed to be trained better. Bitch we have logs
>>211408803The women are the best part of the office anon. Sexy slender fit women in business casual. Of course some of them dress like slobs but still. I have gotten more pussy from work than online dating or clubbing shit.
>>211408936>Ahhh im a sweaty favela spic and think white people care about my AC slave fantasy

>>211408576 (OP)he had it pretty fucking good honestly.
2 chill coworkers who he could hang with after work
enough money to live on his own and own a car. successful with women
things are strictly worse now and it's only going to get worse
>people at work complaining about stagnating wages
>hr decides to create a "fun comittee"
>it's all unpaid volunteers
>start seeing posters appear around the building for potlucks and donation drives
these things will surely assuage the discontent
Oh, it’s another bottom of the barrel zoomers not understanding what lack of purpose is thread
>>211409539What’s cope is you thinking getting an absolutely pointless job will somehow make you feel better about your life because right now it seems a better than the absolute dead end of a basement dwelling life you have right now. The grass isn’t greener retard, Ted was right
>>211409645About that grass. Touched some lately? :^)
>>211409464Presumably they’ll figure it out eventually. The only fulfillment or purpose you get out of life is essentially that which you make for yourself. They don’t think it be like it is, but it do.
Office jobs don't need to be 8 hours long. Nothing of any value gets done after lunch.
Office work is piss easy. Just get a Xanax prescription and learn to stealth alcoholic.
>>211409029My office is full of old or fat hags
>>211408803I work for a company that has been around long enough that basically only one person is still around from when the company was founded and the rest of the staff has turned over multiple times
my boss has been around long enough to have seen turnover and even she admitted that she prefers the department to be all-men the way it is now, then when it was all-women (just before I first started) because the men are way less drama
The worst part about it is bureaucracy in general, the whole fake professional no fun allowed culture. Imagine working finance in a cubicle but you can still scream slurs with your coworker bros, blare whatever music you want, eat pizza at your desk - foster a culture like that and worker happiness and productivity would shoot through the roof. Nobody wants to go to a dead silent place where you have to wear a stupid uncomfortable suit and worry about upsetting Loretta the obese HR lady for making a joke a third grader would laugh at or deal with Bill the short supervisor who acts like a complete fucking faggot with no sense of humor and gets off on having a smidgen of power over people that could overpower him with one hand.
I got caught playing solitaire at work once. I actually felt bad because the boss who caught me was actually a really nice old guy who thought I was a great worker. It felt like he was more disappointed than anything
>>211411444>ugh why can't everyone just be like me!?!? everyone else is the problem!because work is real life. it shows you that you're not going to like everyone you encounter. te best you can do is learn how to cope with it all.

>>211408576 (OP)ESL why even post here? Go to a native language forum instead!?
>>211408576 (OP)Kinda had the same thing happen to me, left my office job a few years back, made the transition to manual labor, liked it at first and then realized it was a shit career also two years into it. Planning to leave and go to trade school.
>>211408576 (OP)I used to make fun of this movie with the other memes about what a cry baby he was being for complaining about his middle class job in an office. But then I actually got an office job in a cubcile and it all made sense. Everything about it is so soul crushing, from the gray penny penching shitty design and lack of color in everything to the cold corpo approved way people are forced to interact with each other, it made me go crazy. And then the money isnt even really worth it. Its enough to get by, but its money you can make anywhere really.

These miserable office drones and other workers are an honest to god mystery to me. I worked shit jobs when I was younger and it just pushed me to want more. Time is a flat circle, the company doesn't care about you, and if you threaten their brand or their image even incidentally you're out the door no matter how valuable or important you might be to them. Never forget that. Spend time with your kids, your friends, your family. A job is just a job and the only people who remember how late you work will be you and your family.

>>211420425I agree. Return to monke is a dumb proposition. However I like to believe there's a modicum of truth to be found. I refer to this Calvin & Hobbes comic a lot because it reminds me that if there's money to be made from more efficiency or productivity, demand for it will increase. Life is like one huge cookie clicker game to the spreadsheeters sitting in HQ on the 30th floor.
In reality the world is so insanely efficient and productive that most jobs as evidenced by Office Space and this thread are useless, but because of our economics of scarcity, you MUST work a job to survive. If there was going to be any return to monke, I think a better alternative is actually UBI for citizens and forced job cuts. Then the people who HAVE a job become like the tax payers of Rome, where it (a job) is considered a privilege and a status symbol of your place in society. But anytime UBI is brought up, you get mouth frothers saying "BUT THEY SHOULD BE WORKING" which goes right back to the maximize productivity to incrementally maximize money issue, all over again. It's antithetical to the economics of scarcity itself. So maybe it's just more fun as a thought experiment.

Wierd story though, basically two parts, one with one of these math autists becoming enamored with a conspiracy of elites wanting to overthrow the governing committees and clean out peoples they deem "undesirable" which appealed to his calculating brain, but then when he finds his oneitis waifu at a party and later finds out she'd be one of the undesireables, he's conflicted. His friend knows the conspiracy is fake and gay and they just want to off people to loot the economic balance amongst themselves and stops it, then the second half is his navel gazing about the meaning of life while the governing commitees debate philosophy and if telepathy or consciousness transfer is possible and how to scientifically find out.
Considering the memes always paint Heinlein as a borderline fascist, I was surprised this rich developed world was a global centralised planned economy where every individual is equal under the law and the villains are essentially elitists wanting to undermine the system for their own ends.

>>211429730Nta but the other guy’s argument stands and you’ve moved the goalposts. It’s much easier to get rid of someone on a temporary contract by just not renewing their contract. >>211430523Again you're arguing semantics like a fag.
The implication in the original post was that he was hired -temporarily- to exclusively work on Y2K, and then get the boot.
But you have no idea how long he has been working there. He could have been working on general banking software there for 10 years prior and was only focused on Y2K because of the time period. You have no fucking idea because the movie doesn't tell you.
However the fact is if he was temporary it doesn't make sense for the big dogs to do a big song and dance about his contract - he simply would not have been renewed. The implication is that he has been working there for some time.
Again, you are severely retarded and I would ask you to seek immediate help.

>It's lost on a lot of people that his job was specific to Y2K so his job was likely temporary once the deadline passedHis job was temporary, yes, as evident by the fact that he was going to get fired, and the fact that Y2K would pass. Except THAT IS NOT THE POINT of that post.
The implication of that post is that his job was temporary -because- he was only hired for Y2K. The movie never touches on this.
Again, you are a retard.
>>211431446>plan to lay them off once the y2k patching was finishedlol you didn't even watch the movie. everyone else that was getting fired had nothing to do with y2k.
absolute retard.
>>211431467Again, I’ll repeat/reiterate this because I enjoy watching stupid people be stupid, in the late 90s, tons of companies mass hired code monkeys in positions the companies would claim are permanent to patch out all y2k vulnerabilities. If you weren’t stupid you realized your absurdly high paying job was temporary, as you’d be one of a dozen or so code monkeys working to patch a specific bug, and there was no other work lined up after.
This is the literal and explicitly stated setting of office space. 1999, a tech company patching y2k vulnerabilities for other companies.
>>211431622Oh right I forgot Peter didn’t have coworkers and wasn’t part of a department that was about to be laid off in its entirety. My bad.
>>211431662I think you enjoy being stupid. No one else was working on Y2K in that movie. It had nothing to do with the plot outside of being his current job.
>>211431730What were their jobs? Go on, list them.
>>211430966There is no reason for office wagies to work a 40 hour 9-5 schedule that was designed for factory workers on assembly lines where hours worked directly translates to productivity, but since we live in an open air Jewish prison this relic isn't going away. I work in insurance. I calculate and negotiate prices when companies look around for quotes. To answer your question most of the time I spend 1-2 hours a day actually working (3-4 hours during our busiest quarter of the year). If it's really slow I only have 15-30 minutes of work to do.
Besides emails and meetings I do my actual work in Excel plus a couple proprietary programs. The emails are mostly just making sure the right people signed off on important stuff and reminding people to do shit that has to be done in order for you to do your job. That way there is a paper trail to show you did what you could in case some lazy faggot coworker is preventing you from doing your job because he wouldn't do his job. Externally most of my negotiating takes place over email with the occasional phone call. The meetings are 90% foids and middle managers wasting our time talking about nothing and 10% useful information that could have just been an email.
When I was still reporting to an office that other 4-7.75 hours of the day were spent pretending to look busy if my manager was in. If she was not in I could play around on my phone, read a book and take a 2 hour lunch with coworkers. Now that I work from home I have an L-shaped desk in my home office. My work computer is on one side and my own computer is on the other side. I play vidya and shitpost all day on my computer, slide over to my work computer when there is something to do, then go back to vidya/shitposting. I usually eat lunch at my desk, then spend my lunch hour doing chores or fucking my FWB or taking a walk if it's nice out. You have so much more time in your day without a commute and when you can do chores during work hours.
>>211431754>what were Peter’s coworkers/friends jobsIt’s safe to infer they were doing the same thing Peter was before Peter gets hypnotherapy, and the people person was selling the necessity of y2k patching to other companies. Hence the setting of the movie.
>>211431875lol you didn't watch the movie. they literally get called into the office to explain their work. hint: none of them mention y2k
>>211431929I accept your concession.
>>211431956>literally no refutationlol, I accept your concession though. thanks for playing.
>>211432002you had no refutation or response in your post at
>>211431929. You said nothing. Thus I accepted your concession at
>>211431956.
>>211417512Work at it you fucking tard instead of bitching online. No one said it's easy but it is simple.
>>211426897Honest answer, they retrain their bodies and build a new sleep habit.
>>211432061>we have to infer what they were doing>completely ignores the part of the movie where they explain exactly what they doAgain, I accept your concession. Better luck next time!
>>211431929Because the efficiency consultants weren’t asking what people’s jobs were, what they were working on. They already knew.
>>211417164Thank you anon. And big companies have tons of social events for you to make friends. Wagie labourers get mad that the office is an adult playground but some of y'all clearly need it. Why wouldn't I want to live a better quality of life that pays well and gives me free time to do other things?
>>211432168Peter only explains his job to Jennifer Aniston. The rest of the characters desperately try to justify why they should stay. Peter gets fast tracked to promotion by saying he doesn’t do shit.
>>211431526I'm actually in a Leaf zogbot but holy most of that stuff applies to us.
The funniest email we got from our Gen and Defence Staff was talking about how niggers commit all the crime, disobedience, AWOL, etc and that is is racial profiling because they're being targeted for all this.
Any Leaf fags who read their email in 2023/24 can find it, it was accidentally kino.
I hate women so much it's not even funny. The only good military women HATE military women, not even joking.
If you ever join you will HATE simps and women with all your heart, niggers are just niggers I don't expect much from them. Jeets are annoying and very dumb.
Officers are generally leftist faggots like he said, but WOMEN IN POWER are so awful I can't even begin to describe it
>>211431778I avoided an office job for years because being forced to look busy at a desk all day is my idea of hell.
But now that work from home is popular, your last paragraph makes me want an office job now. I could totally handle that.
>>211429365>I don't like my job... And I don't think I'm gonna go anymore.>Peter you're work from home
I mean making six figures (just over prebonus) is nice. having a wfh job that doesn't require intense effort but regardless of scenario computer jobs are just draining. the corpo climb is also a huge waste of effort unless you're ultra shallow. making what I am making I am beyond comfortable and can't see any reason to make more or carry more stress just to do so.
>>211432497Yeah, being forced to look like you are working is worse than actually working. At least time passes fast when you're legitimately busy. Fortunately my manager had to travel often. The days she wasn't around to constantly check on me were nice.
But remote work is incredible. I NEET'd for awhile in between jobs and my lifestyle now working from home is pretty similar. Only major difference is I have to keep a normal sleep schedule. Just make sure you work somewhere that embraces remote work instead of somewhere with 1984 "camera always on" policies and executives/middle managers pushing the "return to office" meme.
>>211432776How did you get to this point
>>211408576 (OP)The influence of films like Office Space and Fight Club and others, and the general cynicism and pseudo "class war" bullshit of Gen X influence ruined countless impressionable young lives. Created a bunch of jobless do nothing drifters and dropouts. I know, I'm one of them. If it wasn't for this kind of prevailing attitude to relate with and embolden me I probably would have eventually relented and been like "welp it's the way of the world guess I gotta get a job now"
>>211432997my only issue is, Ive only gone blue collar shit. I have a BA degree but I don't even know what company or position I would apply for AND that would be WFH. My resume would be useless probably
soft office worker hands typed this shit
>>211433159>The influence of films like Office Space and Fight Club and others, and the general cynicism and pseudo "class war" bullshit of Gen X influence ruined countless impressionable young lives. If pretty lights off the magic display box really ruined lives, those people should've been euthanized at birth.
>>211434202You sound like an angry faggot who sees everyone else’s lack of awareness and not your own. However I agree with the spirit of your argument. Art can’t influence people more than people influence/create art.
>>211432002>>211432061Jesus Christ you two are still at it.
>>211433159The point of all of those movies was how it was more beneficial to “society” and “the economy” to hire people to perform tasks that could be automated than it was to automate their jobs. The steam engine was invented in 20bc but it wasn’t developed because slave labor was the backbone of the Roman economy.
