Perhaps if RTD does make the Paradise Towers sequel he has been threatening too it can be the Slitheen hunting down all the Kangs.
>>211412199They can be reasonably threatening if they don't laugh at their own farts.
Not really sure there's a good story for them left, but I guess body snatching capitalists/mobsters is always a viable hook.
>>211411312RTD created the Ood and they had an impact.
>>211412371The Ood just kept showing up because they were enough of a blank slate that they could insert them in stories, and save money on new costumes.
>>211412199The Slitheen are just bog standard body snatchers. there's not much interesting about them. They're also a little too silly for serious stories, in a way that Zygons or Rutans are not.
>>211411312you do have a point, when I think of nu-who monsters that became iconic as the Daleks and Cybermen, I only think of the weeping angels and perhaps the silence,
>>211412550They won't be silly if they stop farting, and maybe get made with better CGI. Their unique gimmick is that they are just greedy jerks, so you can give them weird for-profit plots.
>>211411312weeping angel is a rip off SCP foundation creepypasta which was big at the time
You notice how all of RTD's villains are just "what if people I disliked were baddies"?
>what if New Labour MPs were baddies?

>what if rich industrialists were baddies?
>what if vaguely nationalist people were baddies?
>what if people in wheelchairs were baddies?
What does he mean by this?

>>211417095Oh right I saw they were bringing her back. Seems like a fumble. Bringing back The Master was obvious 20 years ago but The Rani? If the new RTD + Disney era is meant to be a whole new coat of paint for a new audience then why the fucking Rani of all characters?
>>211417061She was secretly the Rani. No explanation for why her name was Flood or the fourth wall breaks.
>>211416918John Hurt's performance sucked.
>>211417171It's a bit of an open secret that Mrs Flood was originally supposed to be Susan Twist but they had to rewrite it.
>>211417140because Russell is a hack
>>211417156people have been asking for the character's return ever since the revival began, she's very popular.
and it's really not a new era at all. that was just some bullshit Russell made up so Disney could have "season 1" of Doctor Who and their subscribers who have presumably never seen the show would be more inclined to watch it. it's a straight continuation of the Chibs era and Russell also keeps masturbating with the scripts by constantly referring to past episodes he worked on. and also apparently every villain each season is going to be a classic Who villain turned into a big dumb CGI monster. so it's actually a horrible place for a new fan to start.
>>211417334Are they actually bringing Omega back or is that just rumors?
Should I bother watching it or should I keep pestering /tv/ with questions? I only watched the specials from Chibbs era, not the actual series.
>>211417393Omega returned as a CGI crab.

>>211417697There are some kino episodes in R2D.
>>211417768Series 10 > Series 1
>>211417156Ncuti was shown Time and the Rani to explain who Mel is supposed to be and he asked RTD to write an episode where The Rani comes back because he liked her.
>>211419601He wanted the Beast back too but they gave him Sutekh.
>>211414305>It's amazing what Moffat can squeeze out of a man having to stand stillt. RTD
>>211416698Now she's the only Rani again they can do Big Finish with her like Jacobi.
>>211417140Time Lords have senses beyond human comprehension. This includes the ability to realise other beings (the audience) are observing.
>>211418451Honestly I think he's quite good in that scene, there's just so little to work with. He's charismatic in interviews even, a shame he's got so little in the actual episodes.
So thereโs a rumor that apparently this was the original plans for series 2:
>Ruby was supposed to be Desiderium the Wish Baby and the woman in the clock was the Rani dropping her off at the church and was waiting as Mrs Flood as she hired the Goblins to attract the Doctor to Ruby
Belinda wasnโt supposed to be in season 2 at all
>Between the Christmas special and Robot Revolution it was Ruby who dated Alan Bud instead of Conrad and dumped him for being controlling
when the time fracture happens he gets returned to Earth and he is the one starts Think Tank and he becomes dictator in the alternate reality
>Ruby and the Doctor are married in Wish World and poppy is their daughter as Ruby had wished to be her parent in Space Babies
>The Reality War and Omega mess is the same except itโs Alan instead of Conrad and at end to fix reality Ruby uses her wish power to go back and put her self at the chuch by going back through her timeline becoming the woman in 73 Yards
>In the end sheโs says goodbye to the Doctor as she adopts Poppy a foundling without parents just like her
That all makes much more sense and is 1000% better
>>211420103Moffet wrote him good. RTD just wanted him to stand there and look hot.
>>211420135Any gossip on what Millie Gibson did to get written out of series 2 all I heard was โdiva on setโ
>>211418068The Greek mythology angle is a strangely decent one. I'm conflicted about him being taken care of so easily. It's a little anti-climatic but at the same time the Doctor just being able to force him back in and not have to defeat him with the power of prayer or something is refreshing for RTD.
>>211420619Didn't like night shoots. I believe in one of the BF Podcasts it was also said that she was unsatisfied with her character.
>>211420741>It's a little anti-climatic but at the same time the Doctor just being able to force him back in and not have to defeat him with the power of prayer or something is refreshing for RTD.That just makes it better relative to what RTD would usually do as opposed to being a good way to handle Omega outside of that.
>>211420135>No ConradShit.
>>211420793Is he as fat as Colin?
>>211414098Pyramids of Mars, since RTD decided to watse time watching a far better classic episode in his Empire of death
>>211420619From what I have read it was about the shooting hours. She was a soap actress before so I imagine that must be straight-forward as opposed to irregular hours and standing around that something like Doctor Who, and especially what Doctor Who now, is like.
>>211420741>called a Titan>'imprisoned' former ruler>says 'God of Time' like Chronus>east the Rani like Cronus (the other one)I thought I was the only one who noticed, but it's an idea that isn't focused upon.
I guessed it would been more true to mythology if omega was tricked into eating something to defeat him.
>>211420619Ncuti just didn't like her. Gay men can be cruel as fuck to women.
>>211421011For all that people say how difficult it was for the performers back then, Millie Gibson would probably have a more easier time with the First and Second Doctor era filming.
>>211421065They can be better with females than straight males can sometimes.
>>211418068>under-verseI wonder why RTD didn't make use of the Land of Fiction, or perhaps the Void (from Doomsday) but he probably forgot the latter existed.
>>211420889The sticking point for me is that it's Omega that was brought back for all of five minutes. Would I really have a problem if it was actually some ancient god newly introduced in the season versus a character from classic?
>>211421335Then you wouldn't get the easily-forged build up at the end of part one, leading to crushing bitter disappointment. Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!
Why does Rusty keep showing clips from Classic in his run? It only serves how ridiculously different and worse the characterization and writing is now.
>>211421466reminder that the 5th doctor's final words were "Adric?"
>>211421335People have a problem with it being Omega for all the reasons you already know, but I would say if it was some original character it, although not causing the same reaction, would still have left people baffled and criticising of it. You say about it being newly introduced, well unless there is an entire season rework then it basically is just that same single scene just with a few lines of dialogue changed - no build-up and anti-climatic.
>>211421522No they weren't. I like to think the Master was saying that. The Fifth Doctor's final word was actually Andies?
They're calling it the hot new meme, that's sweeping the nation by storm. Andies. Children up and down the country are saying it; cool kids; depressed emos; sharkboys, lavagirls, everyone, everywhere. Boys called Andy get special compensation. Say "Andies" and get 10% off the latest chip batch.
This has been /who/ reporter Andy, signing out!
>>211421504to give the audience a refresher, keep in mind that 90% of the people viewing probably hasn't even seen an episode of classic who in full.
It's strange in contrast to his first run were he often not reference classic who, even when there were opportunities, such as Love and Monsters & Rose (I am also aware that he ''corrected'' that in a book)
>>211421522keep in mind while we may laugh at Adric's death in universe the reality is that doctor got a kid killed. That would stick with a man.
I do like Turlough's reason better ''Too many enemies would delight in your Death''
>>211421725Adric's death wasn't funny it was shocking.
>>211421725"corrected". He made it more explicit since it's a book and the casuals are less likely to read it, + no need to hide the past so much anymore (clearly). RTD said he regrets not having more old monsters in his first go, before he came back.
>>211421791How many more RTD seasons until he has the Doctor go back and save Adric?
Do Alpha, Beta, and Omega daleks come back? I liked those little dudes, it'd be a shame if they really did die/blow up.
>>211421791true, I thought you were joking. btw while Adric was never my favorite companion I never hated him.
>>211421810I do understand what the thinking was behind his first run. He didn't want to repel the casual audience with 'nerdy' lore and I think he was right to do so, at least for the first series.
>>211421894Mentioned in The Giggle. At best (read: worst) he'll invent a parallel universe where Adric survived, he was pretty close in the Tales in the TARDIS stuff, making everything oh so lovely and everything's fine the whole time.

>>211421725I think RTD made the right call in 2005 actually. Overwhelming people with references to the old show would've just alienated new viewers. He put everybody on a level playing ground by introducing the Time War and the way he reintroduced old villains was great (Cybermen could've been improved but they were better than their 80s selves at least).
The reveal of the Master in Utopia shows how well it was handled. Old viewers would've guessed this was the Master after making the connection, but new viewers still had enough to keep them hooked other than just 'hey it's the guy from the 70s and 80s!'. You're left thinking 'huh, there's another Time Lord? Wait why isn't the Doctor happy about it?' The suspense is great.
https://youtu.be/FI_RB2URZPY
It's probably the Moffat era were the returning villains fall flat, by this point there much more leeway to introduce them and instead they're occasionally reused for cheap gags. Except the Master, and even then he changed him to a woman (I do like Missy though, even if it's woke).

>>211422440Closing Time > Heaven Sent (honest)
>>211422175I did say in another post it was a good thing, it's just strange that RTD pulled a 180 on his perspective.
The trio of enemies (Daleks, Cybermen & the Master) were also already iconic with the public so the groundwork was already there.
Whereas villains such as the Rani & Omega weren't so they didn't work as well, I do think they could've been done correctly. It's just that they don't work as reveals, they needed to be reestablished.

>>211422500You make a good point, there is a world of a difference between the Daleks, Cybermen, Master and then the Rani and Omega. Even the Sontarans are relatively well known but I never thought the Rani ranked particularly high on the tier list. It's weird why RTD brought them back. Same with Sutekh who was a great villain but he was a one off.
I've found it curious how the Zygons are seen as a classic villain despite only being in one Classic serial. I know it's a good one, but still. You may as well bring back the Tereleptils.
>>211422831>tfw the first Who I ever saw was Curse of Fatal Death>tfw Jacobi was great>tfw Simm was complete shit
>>211422831Same for me, I've since got into Classic but the time I had no background. It's amazing how well RTD could write at times (and equally amazing how shit he could write, as the rest of that series finale shows us)
>>211422922Simm hammed it up way too much. I get his thing was that he was the evil mirror to Tennant, but it just kind of shows that maybe Tennant isn't that great. He was better when he returned in World Enough and Time. Still a little zany but it was toned down just a bit.
Comparing him to Jacobi almost isn't fair since Jacobi is a classically trained Shakespeare actor who's been in tons of actually good stuff.
>>211422847>I've found it curious how the Zygons are seen as a classic villain despite only being in one Classic serial. I know it's a good one, but still. You may as well bring back the Tereleptils.I would say that is more the Zygons were recognised by people that were familiar/fans of Classic. Same with how Toymaker, Omega, and Sutekh were known by the fanbase, but not something your random Brit on the street could name or would maybe have heard of in the same way the Daleks. I also read something as well about how in the first half of the 1970s the likes of Radio Times were very much advertising and promoting monsters. A big deal would be made about the Ice Warriors, the Silurians etc.
>>211422922Simm is the best Master.
>>211412550Slitheen have some potential. For starters Slitheen was just the surname of one criminal family from a relatively unexplored race. They didnโt want simply โworld dominationโ but instead weโre instead out to make money which a fun angle with lots of possible plots. They also had the whole โhunter raceโ side of things which made them a credible physical threat. The whole โunzipping foreheadโ thing is also visually memorable and easily mimicked.
>>211422500The main thing is in practice the groundwork for all three is irrelevant when it comes to how they are reintroduced. What groundwork is there is to drum up hype in the media and those familiar with Classic. Less iconic than those 3 and you can say what you want about the quality of the episode, but even the Sontaran reintroduction in Nu introduces them as if they are being presented to the audience for the first time.
>>211423300you are right desu. The Daleks, Cybermen and the Master were well known but they were introduced as new villains.
>>211423047Early 70s is the one of the most popular eras of the show with the highest viewership and strong stories and villains so it makes sense.

>>211423676Oh yeah. But that fits with the theme of the Moffat reusing this stuff for cheap gags or throwaway references, rather than honestly making use of them for stories.
>>211423576>Though one wonders why the Daemons or Metebelis 3 haven't shown up since then.I am not sure if this is being earnest or a joke, but the perception would be they are a bit naff even by the standards of Doctor Who.
>>211423576I am surprised the Rutans never showed up in Nu. And yes, I know they appear in some game but that is not the same thing as them appearing in the show.
>>211424564I think the issue is that they don't really work as portrayed in Horroi of Fang Rock. Although a better writer than me could do something interesting with it. A shapeshifting ball of slime is responsible for an endless war against the Sontarans? Maybe the Sontarans are just incompetent.
>>211423106Delgado by far. Simm is on the same bottom tier as the Pajeet
>>211421977I think they did this in a Big Finish story
>>211425003I am not saying this is a good idea but, maybe do something like Alien, or The Thing, or a cross-between Alien and The Thing with them. Play up them being being this shapeshifting monster that is going to electrocute you, doing the paranoia and monster horror found in that.

Mainly because they could have the Kowloon walled city as a hunting ground for them which would be cool and they would be the lesser of two evils compared to the Blathereen.
>>211426557they filmed here in Gridlock
>>211426557>Blathereen>The Blathereen were a family of Raxacoricofallapatorians. They were descendants of the Plom family and the Huspick Degenerate. They were in competition with their cousins the Slitheen family and had gained an advantage by 2500. what the fuck
>>211426498They are supposed to be the same - even if they come across different. The final shot of him in The Deadly Assassin implies he is restored, or at the very least more healthy than what he was. Apparently for The Keeper of Traken they were using the Target novelisation of The Deadly Assassin for reference guide and the novelisation does not actually include the aforementioned scene. Hence they were working with the idea he was in the same condition as in Deadly Assassin. Now none of the explains the makeup or personality but, I imagine they just went fuck it no one will remember nor can they check.

Of the other obvious ones of some notability that could relatively easily be brought back (Silurians, Zygons, Ice Warriors) all of which happened under his successor. A lot of the other notable villains from Classic were things that just worked as one-offs (Sutekh), had a bunch of lore around them (Black Guardian Omega, The Great Intelligence) that it is easier said then done to adequately explained, were at best C-tier (The Rani), or were Glup Shittos. And depending on who you ask anything outside of the Daleks, Cybermen and The Master may as well be Glup Shittos.

Not so in the UK where you can get (almost) all of the classic who on iPlayer. They also did the tales of the TARDIS series where some of the best classic episodes were cut together and top and tailed with a clip of the Doctor and/or a companion reminiscing over their adventure in the "memory TARDIS" that featured in the episode 8 of Series 1 Volume 3. In the commentary for Boom! RTD and the Moff talk about how the fact the episodes are all there and cleaned up gives them the opportunity to refer back to Volume 1 more, as people can, and will, go back to watch the classic episode after the new one if they haven't yet or need a refresher. Archive clips and exposition in the new episode are mainly there for very young children, who might not have seen the entirety of the classic series yet and Americans.
>>211426638Kowloon inspired Gridlock (and a few other sets) but Kowloon had long been demolished by then for being a den of iniquity and organized (and disorganized, too) crime. It was the sort of place people went into and never came out of, especially if you worked in law enforcement or were a remotely attractive female.
It is an absolute mind fuck that this place was allowed to exist in the first place in what was at the time a British coloney and the hub of international finance. Whenever you see a distopian cyberpunk, or somewhat grotty vision of urban future in sci-fi its always based on Kowloon, even if the person making it is just basing it off other films.
>>211411289All of the cast in Planet of Evil are excellent, obviously it's peak Tom and Liz but the actor who plays the antimatter werewolf guy really gives it his all as well. >>211412550Slitheen have a more compelling angle to them than the Zygon and Rutans, with the for profit mobster angle, and their method of disguise comes with having to kill their new body instead of just mimicking them. Plus, you could probably make a half decent episode or two not even relying on the Slitheen being able to take people's form which is flexibility that's nice for a monster to have. Like given how they're good hunters you could do an episode where a bunch of rich ones do their equivalent of fox hunting.
>>211442936Remember as well that the Slitheen themselves can be quite distinctuve characters in their own right. Blon Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen showed this off in Boom Town, especially as she spared that woman because she was pregnant and Blon had just lost her family. The individual personalities of the Slitheen contrast to other "group" enemies like the cybermen or Daleks in that they are capable of doing their own thing rather than just following the heard, like how Sip Fel-Fotch Passameer-Day Slitheen goes after Jackie Tyler in his own hunt.

I was thinking about the new DW kid's show and I've come to think that a children's spin-off of DW is pointless because it's not like Children don't watch the regular show.
So SJA's was 'pointless' as well but I enjoyed that show so I'm not going to complain. It also provided us with a brigadier appearance which the main show didn't, I know it was because of health issues with N. Courtney.
although another aspect is the animation, it means they'll be able to do things they couldn't do in live action.

Never properly watched SJA, but I watched a clip (because I was curious about 11th doctor appearing in it) and these villains which are just silly costumes, not only have more "soul" than anything in RTD2 era DW, they actually seem more threatening than any of the villains.

>>211443745Farts are genuinely funny, and something that jokes as it is trying to kill is far, far more sinister than some serious all the time edgelord just killing.
Look at Pennywise in "It" for another good example, or John Wayne Gacey in real life. Between them they have ruined clowns so now they are more likely to be a horrific monster than just a funny guy in make up doing physical comedy.
>>211443839Wow I love that design. Kind of a shame it was relegated to just a background easily-missable appearance. Those metallic guys as well.

>>211443921I am 45. I expect you are in that period of your life when you reject everything you liked as a child, because you think it will make you seem like a mature adult. Most people go through that period and it lasts a year or so when they're 14 or something, you'll look back at it and cringe some-day. For some it lasts longer, then you have problems. My advice to you is you can act sensible in public if you want but the longer you spend your life denying yourself fun things like fart jokes, is the longer you spend wasting your life. Life is best when you are just happy, lord knows you'll have plenty of sad shit to come because thats how life is, so just enjoy fun things when you can.
