I started rewatching the show a few weeks ago and there's a bunch of jokes that no kid or teen in the 90s would get. Not just off colour jokes but references to bands or movies from the 70s or 80s. Frank Conniff from MST3K was a writer and producer for the first four seasons so maybe that explains it.
