>>211417813 (OP)I'm generally a big fan of pre-Handover Hong Kong Action Cinema (HKAC), but in answer to your specific question, a lot of heroic bloodshed is tolerable, good even if you can grok context. Last Hurrah for Chivalry is a pretty good spin on wuxia, for example. On a tangent, I don't think this requires IQ to appreciate, but I really love the solid, snappy, contiguous choreography of mid-80s to 90s HKAC (from certain directors/action choreographers, e.g. Sammo). Seeing a multi-minute sequence of complex moves with no cuts, doubles, CG, etc. is awe-inspiring. I love those flicks. I actually can’t watch police story any more, it gives me weird painful nostalgia for a life and time that is gone forever.

Death to everyone here! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I marathoned all of Werner Herzog's filmography and I'm really confused. Is he anarcho-socialist or radical capitalist?
>>211425308I'll be honest with ya, never seen a single Angelopoulos photoplay... Describe them to me.
>>211425784Huxley family-tier Gnostic, Lunar Society Darwinist, Libertine elite, as seen in Salt and Fire.
Ignore his entire post-German narrative films except Invincible, My Son, bad lieutenant, and salt and fire
>>211425945Are you incorporating his documentary films in this assessment?
>>211426028The death row movie is the liberal humanism such a type would support along with the primitive cult stuff and implicit drug usage as seen in Francis Huxley and Jeremy Narby. He’s like a Neo-Royal Society type but centered in America with Epstein and Laurence Krauss. A “humanist”
>>211426333Also films praising Gorbachev
Films, and any component of any film, that try to mimic or replicate reality or be "believable"/"convincing" or something like that are pointless. Film is an inherently artificial and fake medium, no matter what choices you make to the acting, camera work, aesthetics, etc, it will come across as artificial and fake, so trying to make films more "realistic" goes against said nature. "Naturalistic" acting for example gets invalided by the fact that the person playing the character is an ACTor, meaning there will always be some level of exaggeration and will never replicate the real thing like it wants to. Even if the ACTor did truly replicate the real thing, it will just clash against everything else which is even more artificial, just making any choice with camera movement, lens, lighting, framing comes across as immediately noticeable and fake. It bears similarity to trannies saying they're women and trying to be them by copying basic aesthetics, despite there being obvious signs that they're men (bone structure, jawline, adams apple, etc).
>>211426333The death row movie REALLY confused me. Herzog asserts certain things in person while cavalierly showing damning things to the contrary. It almost seemed like expert trolling. Like the Antarctica movie allegedly about wildlife which was actually an anthropological study of kooks who choose to live there. I have a hard time pinning this guy down ideologically, but he seems based
>>211417813 (OP)>What are some action flicks that are good, and suitable for an adult with above average IQ?Anything Michael Mann, John Woo, King Hu and Herzogs action films.
>>211426567Nope. Cinema verite is the only true filmmaking form and should be improved upon not ignored. Tricking people into "acting" when they're unaware is the next step. Reality TV could have been the next evolution but laws about alerting people to the presence of cameras prevented it from apotheosis
>>211426774>Tricking people into "acting" when they're unaware is the next step. Will inherently fail to immitate real emotions because of the tack you even need to "trick" people into "acting". Its the fact that you even need to get them to "act" (play pretend) in the first place that will make attempts to make it realistic fail.
>Reality TV could have been the next evolution but laws about alerting people to the presence of cameras prevented it from apotheosisLMAO
>>211426916*fact + my post wasn't only about acting, it was about the fact that everything about film is artifical and fake and try to steer it away from that will always drive attention to it
>>211425858Very slow. Minimal dialogue, beautiful long takes. His early films are focused on Greek history and mythology, later films are more personal. A lot of socialist and anti-fascist themes
>>211426916>>211426976There is something about exposing people to cameras for extended periods of time. You get something out of it... it isn't exactly real, but it can often be interesting, and it is possible to craft useful drama from it. Whoever knew that editors would be the true creators in our new society? And no, The Avengers isn't superior to Big Brother
>>211408521>>if i ever have a daughter she shall be named Isabel. This but either Jessica or Elana.

>>211427339>There is something about exposing people to cameras for extended periods of time. Are you talking about documentaries? My post was more talking about shit like Mumblecore and Social Realism which intended to be "realistic" but still contain elements of cinema that are inherently fake and artifical
>>211427609I'm talking about the evolution of cinema verite, which is to film unsuspecting people and then edit it into narratives. The only hurdle is retarded laws
>>211427698In that case, it stills seems fatuous because it is desperatley trying make the film "real" and "grounded", while also wanting to have the best parts of acting and editing, which draw attention to the fact what you're watching is fake.
>>211417813 (OP)What's with east asians and eyebags? Do they just want them because they don't have them? I get that their heads look like eggs with teeth and slits for eyes, but eyebags? Find something else to enhance.

>>211428013I would like to enhance my penis.

>>211428341You seem to be the kind of retard who believes the obviously fake shadows on the cave wall are real. I mean, I want the real shit to be real, and the fact that so much fake shit is presented as real is an actual problem. However, shit that's not real, and never claims to be, doesn't have to pretend to be real. In fact, it loses something by pretending to be real, considering no one in real life actually behaves the way they do in movies or TV shows.

>>211428746>Pretending to real is "aspirational" despite being not realLike the millions of trannies who think they're women despite obviously being men is "aspirational"?
>>211428795The fuck is that, faggot?
>>211428799Things that aspire to be real, but that come across as fake, are disgusting beyond belief. If something doesn't pretend to be real to begin with, you don't expect it to be real, so you don't feel insulted when watching it.
Of course, there's an endless plethora of variations on this theme, with more or less realism, and I do lean towards realism, but trying to be completely realistic has never worked out, and isn't a goal in itself. It literally can't work and has never been done.
>>211428988i don't see why we're talking about trannies. i don't want to think about or discuss trannies, but certain types of people bring them up all the time for no apparent reason. but in your analogy you'd prefer trannies who are just obviously totally fake to ones who try? or what are you even saying? why the fuck did you introduce trannies into this discussion? can you examine yourself before replying?

>>211427111>Very slow. Minimal dialogue, beautiful long takesThis is very fitting for Jancso. His work is also ripe with excellent choreography and staging, and preoccupied with the themes of oppression and abuse of power. In his films there are socialist motiffs too but they're lowkey anti-Soviet... like how he shows the repression of the 1848 revolution... it's almost an allegory for the 1956 revolution.. ya dig? Also some anti-war films in his repertoire, The Red and the White is a genuine masterpiece. You mentioned Greek myths, now this is a surprising coincidence, he directed an adaptation of Electra with only 12 shots.

If I were now to rewrite the book, I would offer the Savage a third alternative. Between the Utopian and primitive horns of his dilemma would lie the possibility of sanity... In this community economics would be decentralist and Henry-Georgian, politics Kropotkinesque and co-operative. Science and technology would be used as though, like the Sabbath, they had been made for man, not (as at present and still more so in the Brave New World) as though man were to be adapted and enslaved to them. Religion would be the conscious and intelligent pursuit of man's Final End, the unitive knowledge of immanent Tao or Logos, the transcendent Godhead or Brahman. And the prevailing philosophy of life would be a kind of Higher Utilitarianism, in which the Greatest Happiness principle would be secondary to the Final End principle—the first question to be asked and answered in every contingency of life being: "How will this thought or action contribute to, or interfere with, the achievement, by me and the greatest possible number of other individuals, of man's Final End?"[2]
>>211431481Why should mind-uploads need races or gender?
>>211431591They don’t, they evolve beyond it to their final end. The tranny agenda would be a vulgar way of working towards this.

>>211431347Have you ever seen Iron-Fisted Monk? That's one of Ringo Lam's most excellent efforts. Tons of acrobatics on display, and lots of Northern vs. Southern styles.
>>211431664So promotion of primitively ripping off essential organs and modifying oneself with hormones etc is just psychological prep work for a societal transition? Does that make sense, though? With transhumanism, doesn't being first matter a lot? Why would anyone interested in becoming posthuman prep the way for others?
>>211431944Hard to say if it just is populism untapped and out of control or consciously elites fiddling. Things are more bureaucratic than ever, but people on average are seemingly dumber partially because there’s much more humans, could just be genuinely backfired and a diseased populace primitively doing Aphrodite rituals and celebrating such. Herzog’s castration is metaphorical in Salt and Fire, by him turning himself in and allowing the woman to enjoy the life he wanted, which could also be a tranny metaphors. And if we look at havelock Ellis, many sexual theories were being developed intellectually from this society.

I made a trip. The name is Dingo, I've been busy on Letterboxd with my REAL friends, not losers like you. I like American Dad, Sex in the City, South Park, Dog Shit, and The Cleveland Show. I've been busy with my life because I have one not some soap opera about who is and is not in a wheelchair. I need some advice though, I thought Michael Nolin's Wildly Available and Herzog's Salt and Fire were 5/5, but was afraid my letterboxd friends would stop talking to me if they saw I rated them so highly. Any advice? Maybe just settle at a 3.5/5. It's been stressing me out, hence so much Cleveland Show and Futurama. Thanks.
Been watching The Cleveland Show and think it's pretty good, but I like American Dad more. I wish Letterboxd could do TV shows, otherwise I'd give them a 3/5. I can't let my letterboxd friends think I watch them UNIRONICALLY, like some of you freaks here.

>>211426567I have nothing against trannies but I noticed something interesting about them. I've noticed that many of them dress almost stereotypically for their preferred gender, almost like a performative exaggeration of what they think they should be.
Like I go to a friendly local tabletop game store and there will be a group playing some RPG or whatever. 4 sweaty dudes, a sweaty chick in jeans or sweatpants, and then 1 tranny dolled up like it's a Sunday church service, or like a nice Thursday night date. Totally inappropriate for the occasion.
I've never seen a bio female in a dress at a game store. I've never seen a tranny NOT in a dress at a game store. Strange.
I don't have any problem with them tho. We have a couple trannies in my game club and they're much more levelheaded and normal than a couple of the male autismos that have spun out, sperged out, and quit in shame after a meltdown. Sadly I don't have any film related anecdotes but your speech about naturalism betraying artifice made me think of this.

I was REALLY let down by After Hours. The first part of the film looked promising, uncannily dreamlike but it had some cohesive motifs to create a story out of the surreal flow of events (like 3 Women did, one of the best dreamlike movies), it could have gone the way of a dream movie or even a horror movie and been great. But then Scorsese took the main character out of that storyline, threw him into a bunch of others, then turned the rest of the movie into an incoherent reduction to absurdity because he’s such an oh-so-highbrow auteur, with no resolution to tie it together. His worst film in my opinion
>>211439197Saw it like two weeks ago, solid 4/10. Cleanse your palate with Desperately Seeking Susan, another shamelessly Hollywood absurd magical realist comedy with Rosanna Arquette.

Kind of a shame this kind of tough girl revenge story fell out of fashion after the 70s, but maybe there were a few too many pinky violence flicks in that time (still, I like those too).
