because realistically the 10 goons with the guns would just kill the kung fu master protagonist instantly and the movie would be over. Or like in Star Wars where all the bad guys just charge into the lightsabers for some reason while shooting
Because close quarters combat looks more dramatic and is more convenient to film so whenever ranged weapons are on film directors do everything they can to negate them and skip to melee/fisticuffs.

My favorite is when the police find out about terrorists in the sewers and then the ENTIRE police force of the WHOLE city goes down into the sewers. Every single police officer in the city went down there. And they get sealed in and can't come out and people have to lower food for them in baskets so they can survive. And the entire police force lives in the sewers like that for weeks.
Gotham being cut off from the world in a dystopian hellhole also lasts months, as if the fucking Navy and Air Force wouldn't have come in to try and stop Bane the League of Shadows by that point, purely in the interest of national security.

Batman and Catwoman fighting the random bad guys in the tunnels had some of the worst editing I have ever seen in a major film.
The part with the strobe lights freezing the images of Batman was unintentionally laugh worthy.
