There's a problem though.
The film isn't trying to be ultra-realistic.
It's playing with making the fantastical as grounded as possible while still being fantasy.
Big difference.
As for the armor, the highest level of bulletproof material could reasonably sustain what he takes, especially in a fantastical world.
Including the bomb, which he does faint from, and does cover his exposed skin from.
Remember, he didn't get hit by the bomb. Rather, the force of the blast.
Another big difference.
