Keep seeing this movie being shilled here. Is it worth watching?
>>211456682/hor/ hates it, that means you like it
>>211457024Absolutely worth it.
I saw โ exeter (backmask)โ on Tubi last night. I enjoyed it. Made me think of
>hills have eyes remake
>first two tcm remakes with Biel and Brewster
Exeter was filmed 100% serious and in gorey fashion and I enjoyed the tone of it. Pure hard R violence.
>>211457192>How To Kill MonstersTroma-esque, so if you hate that kind of movie, avoid.
>>211457414Decided to get a poster to upload here and lo and behold, I just found out the movie was from the director of Texas Chainsaw Masacre. The movie was filmed very well and it was hard to not notice it. The whole time I am thinking
>wtf how is this low budget movie filmed like a top notch brutal grisly horror film? director of FF13 remake too. wow. incredible.
>>211457615From the director of Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Friday the 13th. Guy knows how to direct serious tone horror movies. Great camera work too. The whole time during those movies, the word grisly, grusome and brutal and gorey kept coming into mind.
I also thought of Inside 2007 while watching the movie.
>>211457770The kind of person that says "mid ahh" is the only person who would watch this movie
>>211457615Added a torrent to my watchlist, so I'll get to it sooner or later.
>>211457754Okay so I just looked up the director and he isnt exactly a no name director
He directed
>Texas Chainsaw Massacre>Friday the 13th>Conan the Barbarian
watched The Surfer yesterday
weird experience, weird movie
>>211457885>>211457893Sounds good. Really like directors/movies where the tone is very serious and the entire film just gives off grisly gruesome vibes. This guys filmography are all hard R movies with no light hearted humor or moments. Atmosphere really matters. I guess now we know why TCM remake was so perfect and why FF13 remake is โso underrated.โ
I think we need to raise our standards for new slashers.
>>211458051Lowlifes is the highest standard
>>211458051This movie had its moments, but there is no wow factor. Felt very by the numbers and was carried more by its budget than anything.
>>211457615Stephen Lang from Dont Breathe is in too.
>>211457770>ahhLeave, and never come back.
>>211458008Any other movies like this?
I will have to check out his Pathfinder movie which is considered quite a cult classic and his Frankstein movie. Ngl, looking at his filmography and posters of his movies, the guy knows how to make down to earth hard R movies with great atmosphere. Too many horror movies are filmed too light heartedly like Clown in a Cornfield. Even Scream mvoies are too bright and airy. And the IT movies.
Who's watching Lowlifes today?
>>211458371Actually the last few Scream movies had moments and film filter where it was made to be slightly above serious and slightly grisly and ramped up violence and gore purposely but wow, seeing Exeter really brought back moments where I was watching TCM thinking โwow this is perfect.โ The Jessica Biel chase scene in TCM was a classic. Watching Jason run around his property setting up his traps and stuff was pretty cool too. Seeing how agile and strong he was was pretty cool. It was like the first time seeing Daniel Craig as James Bond and seeing a muscular athletic Bond.
>>211458371His Frankstein movie was described as
> Sloan Freer of Radio Times gave the film two stars and said "though the ultra-stylised visuals create an air of brooding menace, they can't compensate for the patchy plotting or the abrupt and hugely unsatisfying finale."[3]His movies are stylish, thats for sure.
Frank

๐
>pinfaggots still coping and seething decades later over the best cenobite
>>211458665> ultra-stylised visuals create an air of brooding menacePerfect description. The tone and visuals are perfect for the hard R movies I have seen from him. Hollywood needs more movies like this. So far, it is only James Wan that has kept up the atmosphere in his films. Flanagan went soi. Aja stopped making movies. Derrickson is mia.
>>211458776The opening of TCM was stylish as fuck with the suicide and the camera going through the girls skull and all the screaming.
>>211458776I will either watch Jason X or Frankenstein tonight. or get drunk watching riots.
This sounds perfect..what is the problem?
> As many horror-enthusiasts would agree, a good scary movie should not solely rely on gore or cheap jump-scares to keep us on our toes. While Exeter is somewhat reserved in the jump scare department, I feel they definitely overdid it with the gore at many different points. In horror films, gore tends to feel less gross/off-putting and less realistic when there is an absurdly greater amount of blood/entrails that would ever come out of an actual human being. Most of the deaths in this film involved an extremely detailed close-up of someone having their head smashed to bits or being cut into multiple pieces with blood spraying everywhere like an actual sprinkler. I understand the idea and goal behind utilizing gore in a film, but there is a definitely a line that was crossed and made this film feel cheap and a bit overambitious.
Didnt feel cheap to me. Looks realistic and grounded.
>Tales Of The Unusual (1990)
>Japanese TV Show
>Inspired by American TV movies like "Hitchcock Theater" and "The Twilight Zone," the show features multiple works with Tamori as the storyteller and actors as the main characters. While horror and supernatural themes are predominant, a variety of genres like comedy and drama are also produced. Most episodes, however, have a bad ending.
Very interesting
I watched an x-files episode called Small Potatoes on a whim and it was kino.
What other episodes were this good? I can barely remember after so many years

>>2114394783 is my favorite of 1-4. But it's also a 3D gimmick movie. I think 4 is the most vanilla F13 movie. They really had the formula down and it's just exactly what you would expect a Friday the 13th sequel to be, except the Tommy Jarvis storyline.

>The Mother of Tears (1985)
>alt US title: The Tear Collector
>directed by: Dario Argento
>written by: Dario Argento and Mario Bava (posthumous credit)
>starring: Jessica Harper, Daria Nicolodi, Phoebe Cates, Udo Kier, Linnea Quigley, and Tim Curry
>music by: Goblin
Synopsis: This direct follow-up of Suspiria takes latent witch Suzy Bannion (Harper) to Rome where she attempts to take down the infamous Mother of Tears (Nicolodi) while trying to overcome her powers; she joins a band of witch hunters lead by fellow American, Bella (Cates). The style of this film is more akin to Inferno instead of Suspiria and it's also a proper giallo/mystery horror unlike the previous films.
Linnea Quigley cameos as Dorothy, later reprising the same character in Kolobos. Udo Kier briefly reprises his character from Suspiria. Surprisingly, Tim Curry is the strongest voice of reason other than Suzy but he also has the most gruesome death scene.
In fact, almost every character dies gruesomely at the hands of Nicolodi and their tears are harvested/collected. There's a scene near the end interspersed between these deaths where Harper, topless on her bed like in Inserts, physically can't stop crying and breaks down even further after realizing she's been cursed by the coven. Shortly after she finds Cates dead, and then after that comes the final showdown.
By the end, everyone but Harper/Quigley are dead, the latter managing to escape the burning church. There's a teaser for the fourth film implying Suzy is actually the "secret" fourth witch never mentioned prior in the trilogy's lore and she turns into the villain. "Live long enough to see yourself become the villain" type shit. Also directed by Argento, it would later be filmed in 1989-90 but shelved until '96 for unknown reasons. I believe Asia was the protagonist for the fourth film, so same year as The Churchโฆ typical early 90s Argento.

>>211469770>Millennials and Gen x are the reason why nostalgia slop has been dominant for the past decade.nta but zoomers having no taste or imagination is the main contributing factor for the re-release slop. You have absolutely no idea of what kino is and can only try to imitate earlier cinema.
80โs was a cesspool of degeneracy. All the cuck and blacked shit today is a cumulation of the 80โs
>>211477675Yea Iโve seen his other movies and the reason I got into horror was because i wondered if they captured the eerieness of them. But thanks for the recs Iโm really enjoying this horror journey Iโve been on
