This concept always kind of fucked with my head. If that's true then grief isn't a strong enough word for what I went through. It's so weird thinking that someone going through a breakup or losing their job is the same emotion as watching the person you loved most in the world die in front of you. It can't be the same thing. In my experience, only people who have lost someone special can even come close to relating, and even then not always.
